Is the pixel count from 21:9 aspect ratio at 6:03 correct? First stands for width which would be 1920 and second stand for hight which I case of 21:9 being displayed on 16:9 screen is small than 1080p as you get black bars at top and bottom of the screen. 1422 by 1080 is more of TV aspect 4:3 than cinema aspect, as you get black bars to the left and right
Yeah, us as consumers have drove this. Almost every game has so much extra fat just to pad out the play time, doesn't add to the experience at all. I get wanting your moneys worth, but we're getting closer to games you'll need to pass down generations to complete, lol.
@@AddictedGamerFIFA The new point is the balance. Give us a high level of Engaging content. Not filler not busy work or pointless grind. I'm not paying 60 dollars for a chore simulator or for a movie that I could otherwise pay 15 or less for.
Valhalla sucks no matter how you look at it honestly unless if you pretend you're playing an mmo or something. I mean people like to hate on Mafia 3 and calling it repetitive and boring but at least the gunplay in that game was fun and the story was amazing, Valhalla on the other hand was boring on both departments especially the gameplay, i don't know how they managed it but it actually felt worse than Origins and Odyssey. It's probably just me but Valhalla's gameplay is the worst out of all previous AC's except maybe Liberation and Syndicate. Remember those mastery challenges they added? God i couldn't even bother trying to complete all of them 100%, me who i've 100% completed every single AC in the past, some of them even twice on PC and PS5. That goes to show just how broken and none interesting the gameplay is especially the stealth system.
I just now finished the game. I couldn't agree more with you, the has one of the most interesting world's ever created. It's true that the game could have been improved A LOT!! But dam it, as someone who loves interesting lore in games, I wish I could learn more about the creation of the order, the rise of the lyncans and much more. I really wish we see a sequel
Sadly, it's unlkely that we'll ever get a sequel, at least from those who made the game. Ready at Dawn were acquired by Facebook and will most likely be tasked with making VR games for Oculus. If we do get a sequel, I very much doubt it will go in the direction that Ru Weerasuriya and Kirk Ellis (1886' writers) had intended. Sony really should have shown more patience and had greater faith in RAD. They clearly are a very gifted studio, both when it comes to techical expertise and imagination.
Completely agree, problem is Ready at Dawn was bought by Facebook a few years ago, the chances this will happen is sadly extremely low Lmao it was in the video my bad
Honestly a game like this would really sell right now at a time when there is a thirst for quality single player experiences. Sony should have done a 60 fps upgrade for free for this last year when nothing was coming out to gauge interest, kind of like what Remedy did with the Alan Wake remaster, and I’m surprised more devs didn’t do that because it was a dry year for gaming and especially in the early half of 2021 any game getting any kind of upgrade felt like it was in the news for a week and probably got a lot of sales out of it. I’m multiplat and with FPS Boost from XBox I can’t even count how many games I went back and bought that got that feature.
@@mandrews6282 I got the collectors edition for the order 1886 and my only beef with it was that I paid the full price for it. Later on they were selling these collectors 90% off because of bad press. This game was incredible for the time. Way ahead of time. It was because of this game that I stopped once and for all about influencing my gaming decisions based on these gaming mags trash. They are that, trash .
Ryse especially considering the development hell it went through. I followed that game closely and it started out as a first person melee game. Then it was a Kinect game for crying out loud (ugh). Then eventually it became what it was and it had so little time in development in it's final form and people wonder why the gameplay wasn't quite as fleshed out. lol.
Ryse son of Rome is one of my favorites, because it was cinematic I didn’t need it to be a super fleshed out open world. The story was where it was at and I loved every moment of it.
@@sethhauck1283 Yeah it was an interactive movie. Hate that devs think they can make half-assed games under the guise of "showcasing a console's hardware" like Killzone shadow fall for ps4 and Ryse for Xbox then sell them full price.
@@AgentLemmon It's unreal how nice that game looks, especially given how OLD it is, but sadly, it's a generic game. Nice, but generic, also, the enemy variety really makes it boring for the long term lol
That was the entire point of it. It was a tech demo just like killzone shadow fall. That’s also why they were terrible games. They didn’t set out to make a fun game, they wanted one that looked good. Might be a pretty puddle, but it’s still extremely shallow and boring after less than 10 minutes of playing in it
No issue with the length for me. I enjoyed it thoroughly. My main problem is that the story ended on a terrible cliffhanger. It just didn't feel like the story was over.
the game is 6 hours at most and 2 of those hours are cut scenes if you don't have a problem with that I bet you wouldn't have a problem with someone spiting in your face

It just gives major assassin's Creed fan vibes. ;p
I feel like RAD is still getting the short end of the stick. They just released Lone Echo 2, which is the culmination of the cinematic approach taken with with The Order 1886 except being in VR and actually living a sci-fi movie is a lot more engaging than watching a movie interspersed with little snippets of a mediocre third person shooter. And Lone Echo 2 is amazing, one of the few VR games worth mentioning in the same breath as Half-Life: Alyx. Yet no one is talking about it at all because it's released as an Oculus exclusive in the "Rift" section when Facebook only really cares about the Quest at this point. These people are supremely talented and they've consistently pushed the medium forward. Chains of Olympus was mind blowing at the time for a portable game. They should be experiencing the same level of success that Naughty Dog and Insomniac are.
Yeah the graphics and animations this studio achieved back in 2015 was incredible honestly I'm yet to see a last gen game even match it in those aspects the order looks way better than tlou2, rdr2 and even god of war. The only games I can honestly compare it to are the next gen only ones like demons souls and rift apart and even then the order 1886 stands it's ground against those next games....ready at dawn could've truly been another SSM/naughty dog/Insomniac for sony....it's unfortunate how things have turned out to be On the bright side however the technology and the talent that developed it for over 5yrs for the RAD engine was utilised in pushing the fidelity in most of sony first party titles such as tlou2 and God of war But just for a second imagine the sony first party roster with a 400employee Ready at dawn at the forefront of gaming technology standing together with insomniac, naughty dog, SSM and Guerilla games.....it would've been truly incredible
@@unclesam7853well ill tell ya what, sony is wasting their resources on NG, and im no hater, grew up with them and evovled just like them over the years growing up, just to see them reduced to making remaster and remakes. Best 5 dollars I've ever spent on a game (I can sympathize with those that paid 60 for it) - I actually love the 'movie' playthrough since I'm more a story person than a gameplay person. Love to see a sequel or a film on it (yoooo naughty dog this one's for you)
I got it for $60 and the length seemed fine, honestly... I was excited for a sequel... I thought mostly to myself "if this came out day one of PS4, people would fellate it so hard" or if it came out at $40... But I was happy with it... It's weird
@@draco2xx Why would adding fluff and length somehow make it better? If the story was able to be told in the 7 hour time frame why would you need to more than double that time frame?
@@Communistgun I just can't understand why you felt $60 was fine for a sub 8 hour game that felt like a prologue. The cliff ending was a spit in the face. And this is unforgivable for a game so heavily story based as this one. Don't get me wrong the graphics where great and the plot was interesting it just wasn't fleshed out. Gameplay was so so. Too few lycan battles and the ones we got weren't that interesting.
@@SantosAl Because I don’t base how well a game was on its length. The story was effectively told in the time frame allotted. It didn’t need to be drawn out. Many games such as plague tale, Oxynfree, hellblade can effectively tell their narratives from start to finish in smaller time frames and I don’t see this as being any different.

I really can’t help but feel you’re grasping to give legitimacy to your enjoyment of 1886. There is too much context being left out, misrepresentations of arguments, false equivalencies, and even some msm hate-bait thrown in for good measure, all to try and convince us it’s “not as bad as people say!”. Which, to some? maybe true. But that doesn’t really mean it’s a worthwhile comparable to the games you listed because you can slap some of the same labels onto it, and it doesn’t mean that throwing it on the “released at the wrong time” corpse-cart is really an accurate portrayal of why it got critically panned.
It wasn't ahead of its time, it was a dead end. Games like Until Dawn and Detroit BH succeeded because they were honest about their cinematic style. The Order presented itself as an action adventure shooter, but all those aspects were bad and severely limited. It had all the worst trends of the time turned up to 11. Handholding, constant QTEs, dull cover-shooter gameplay, about half of the game were cutscenes, plus straight up lazy design choices like recycling its only boss fight. Games like God of War, RE7-8 and Metro found a balance between linearity and interactivity that The Order lacked severely.

From what I understood, the main criticism was not that the game was short, but rather that the story didn't go anywhere or elaborate much of the world in that time. I remember seeing a Let's Play back when the game came out, and it just left me hungry for more of this world, but nothing ever came. It's like reading the first chapters of a book, it's leaving you unsatisfied.
Also, the trailers showed that we were going to be a Secret Order fighting in the shadows against werewolves and other monsters. Instead, we just shoot humans. The story was nice, but not what I was expecting.
That was people just finding reason to hate it, none of that was ever promised or even mentioned. It was supposed to be a movie played as a game. I just think people wanted more instead of the story being a tragedy of the main character and his downfall
Dude I liked the game and setting but I can't agree with you. The order felt like it was cut half way through it. Gunplay and ai was mediocre and fights with lykans were just qte. I don't mind qte but not if it's the entire boss fight. The order got great idea for world and story but gameplay wise it was mediocre at best and now this game is forgotten. Comparison with resident isn't good. Re 8 is also short but horrors are usually shorter and gameplay wise it offers more than the order did. Also comparing qte in spider-man, gow or last of us to the order is also laughable. In this games there are contextual to some more cinematic actions. In the order the fights are made entire out of them
I recently played through The Order, and idk why, but my only problems were really the copy paste boss fights and the ending. Liked everything else about it, gunplay felt good, graphics were great which I think only adds to cover shooters (smoke, dust, and debris are huge to adding a nice feel). Cutscene time? Oh goody I get to watch a nice scene with some good actors. I think if anything the game could've done with some more unique boss fights and possibly a co-op mode so it's not devoid of content? Idk I just liked the game for the most part, and here in Canuck-Land I believe this game was also $60 at launch which seems fine to me looking back, but that's mainly because Canadian games have been a tad more expensive for a bit. Sure beats $89.99 for a new AAA title these days
It is 5 hours of gameplay tho. Over 3 hours of it is cutscenes. The comparisons also don't seem to work. RE8 is short but likely has way more replay value as well as side content. That's the case with most RE games. QTEs in Spider-Man, TLOU2 and God of War are fine because those are much longer games where the QTEs feel far less present, and where they are used much better. Turning a boss fight into a QTE is always lame. And didn't this game have boss fights that were just copy pastes of each other?

Interesting video but I really don’t agree with a lot of ur points. The game was criticized for being nothing but a bland third person shooter with pretty graphics, because that was all it was. Story being good or bad is very subjective but a lot of people found it very dull and boring apart from its kinda cool setting. Definitely was a group of people trying to say it was bad because it was short (which is kinda bs) but that also had to do with it didn’t having any replay value and wasn’t very fun to play.
its hilarious how the video talks about the story of the game, but fail to mention it was about an anti-werewolf team, that doesnt actually fight were-wolves for the majority of the time, and when they do, its horrendous. I just played The Order 1886 yesterday. And I do go back to play my favorite chapters about once a month, I just love the game so much. The world they created is a cinematic masterpiece indeed. It is like an amazing movie that you can control. I had no problem with the shooting, I like it a lot and the takedowns are really cool. It is also incredible to see that as you showed The Order 1886 and Resident Evil 8 right after each other, The Order looks a billion times better yet it was released six years ago and RE Village is a game from 2021. It truly was a special title as far as graphics go. To me in many other ways also.
I remember when I played the game years ago and I really liked it. The setting is fascinating to me and the art direction is awesome. I remember I was excited to see a sequel, then I found out what ppl feel about the game… I think the game delivered for what it suppose to be, an immersive, story-driven cinematic experience and I loved every second of it. I didn’t find the gameplay dull or boring because that’s not the focus of the game. Still the game has so much potential, if the developer just learn their lesson and put a bit more effort in designing gameplay I think the game can really be something.
I think no others games has achieved this level of gun gameplay and physics so I disagree with you about gameplay It has the most realistic shooting gameplay ever with those hyper realistic fire muzzle
See I used to be able to enjoy stuff like the last of us and uncharted but I think something changed over the years and now I need interesting gameplay(or an efficient enough delivery of the story) in order to really be invested in a game. Slower paced games with heavier stories seem to have lost their grip on me at some point, and I think it’s because of games like Outer Wilds and The Forgotten City where the gameplay and the in game universe/story are so intertwined that the experience can’t be matched by other art mediums that aren’t interacting with the audience directly. TLDR version of what I’m saying is that I’ve gravitated toward games that take full advantage of the unique characteristics of the art form, and away from games that are heavily inspired by and flatteringly imitate popular blockbuster cinema
I wish they would release it on PC after all these years. I'd love to finally play it. I haven't seen a playthrough all this time cause I knew what this game was at the time of its release. I really wish we finally get our hands on it as pc players.
9 hours? I finished it the first evening i I got it, definitely closer to 5-6 hours. Also Resident Evil Village has a lot more to it, it’s more of a complete package.
I bought on sale and played it through and wholly agree: looked great, played well, story was good. And sure there were game issues (as there almost always is). Still I prefer a good narrative than one deliberately bloated just to increase run time or that just sprawls everywhere in service of more button mashing or that has no story at all.
The difference is with those other games the QTE was not the predominate means by which you "played" the game The Order 1886 wasn't build as an interactive move it was billed as a full fledged game if it was billed an interactive film from the start then I don't think people would've been so harsh on the product.
Exactly. This guy points out that other games have QTEs and then asks "What's the difference?" and then he makes literally no effort to try to understand WHY it's different. It sounds like he's looking at this game through rose-colored glasses tbh, QTEs were used wisely and sparingly in those games. It's basically like half the gameplay in this game, it's so bloated with timed button presses
His credibility went out the window when he compared the QTEs from those other games to this one 😂 He couldn't even distinguish the difference between how the QTEs were utilized in those other games.
Lmao no it isnt. 85% if not more is like gears of war. This game is amazing sorry. I bought it for $8 but knowing what I know now and the enjoyment Ive had I would pay the original $60
I heavily disagree with this Resident Evil comparison. Not only is RE8 longer by most metrics on various sites and aggregators, RE8 had also much more replay incentive, including many unlockables, mercenaries mode and more openness in its design. The gameplay might be subjective, but the above isn't, and they are in completely different genres which differentiate the two even more. Also, few years prior games like TLOU and Max Payne launched which had a lot of the same trappings as The Order and they received glowing reviews. And a year later, Uncharted and Gears 4 launched and those received great scores too. I just don't see a hidden agenda behind the negative scores The Order got, I just think the game was very mediocre.
Yeah, Resi is shorter by design, because you pretty much have to go through it multiple times to unlock everything. It was made that way, with replayability in mind. The Order had nothing much to offer a second run other than if you enjoyed it enough to want to play it again. I'm not even sure it's fair to hold Resi 8 up as some poster child for shorter games like it was an anomaly for the series; prettty much all of them can be done it 4-6 hours when you know what you're doing. I got a solid 8 plus hours out of The Order at the time, and I was perfectly happy with because I'd enjoyed the journey it took me on - the world they created was interesting enough that I'd always hoped we'd see more of it.
I felt the same way when the comparison was made to RE8. It undermines the authors arguments a bit when they make a comparison that's so off base, it makes me want to stop watching the video, or at least pause and post a comment about it.
I agree with this 100% completely different. My first run was 4 hours and I felt ripped off for paying 60 bucks. And how about there's only 2 bosses repeated threw the whole experience
People expected a cool fps with rpg elements. They got a poor shooter, with qte and a very short game length. A wasted opportunity as it looks amazing and is a superb setting. Not worth $60, but worth a play
They never even mentioned rpg elements or promised that, and they made it clear that it was story first, gameplay second, other than it being short none of that matters as it was never promised. Just people letting themselves down and blaming the game. And on length the game is still around 8 to 9 hours for a casual gamer, unless you try hard and try to complete the levels fast its still a fair length
@@shifu_john808 i think you are correct re not promising rpg stuff. But it looked like it should do rpg stuff. A game that certainly got a bad rap and well worth it on sale
The game seemed suited to be an RPG. You have a party of 4 fighting against mythological beings. Maybe that would have suited the game better. They would have had to make it less on rails.
I don't think your comparison of Resident Evil Village's playtime holds water. Why? One word: replayability. I have yet to play a Resident Evil game where I didn't spend upwards of 40 hours of total playtime in spite of the fact that every Resident Evil game other than 4-6 is under 10 hours long. The reason is because after beating the game you have a lot of bonus content unlock, you can get extra weapons for NG+, and there are plenty of collectables to find as you playthrough the game as well. The Order 1886 is a one and done kind of deal, and its focus on story meant that any since of replayability is thrown out the window too.
It absolutely does not hold any water and I'm baffled that he went on to point the time of release of both games instead of going into what RE8 had that 1886 did not. It's like this essay was made assuming you haven't played either of the games and if you have then the argument just falls apart. I also don't get how he thinks the game was ahead of its time in terms of how cinematic it was because it wasn't. Cinematic games with set pieces, letterboxing, low framerates and minimal effort from the player was a fad. Glad it's over.
@@rikyjohnson2 it's not about whether or not you'd want to partake in it but the matter of the principle that content is there. For $60 1886 lacks content where RE8 does not.
@@rikyjohnson2 What about separate modes like mercenaries mode or new areas and additional story content like playing Leon's or Claire's campaigns in RE2 Remake? I mean you are even given a score at the end of your playthrough because those games are designed to be replayed. While I agree with the first parts I thought the gameplay was a pretty basic cover based shooter and got boring pretty quickly. Also I think it was a bad idea to start with the mc in prison. It makes it so you already see the order (or at least part of it) as an enemy and makes the story fairly predictable. It would probably have worked better if that wasn't shown earlier. Also while I love the concept of the world you got very little actual lore about why any of that stuff matters or why you should care.

I am not really a fan of the game but it's not like it's a 2 hour game, 7-ish hours for a single player shooter is at worst slightly below average, especially back then. Depending on the specific game it's about as long to maybe 2 hours shorter than the 7th gen Uncharted, Halo or gears of war games and I can think of very few non-open world shooters back then or even today that break the 10 hour mark. I doubt anyone would even have taken notice of the games length if it wasn't for press like that.

Too much talk of a paranoid coordinated attack on it at release, which just isn’t true. Add in the generally condescending and flippant way you talk about anyone who has genuine criticisms, and this video is a miss. I played this game on release, paid full price, and got the platinum, and was still disappointed in the game overall. Your comparisons to length are way off base as well. And acting like this game was ahead of the time, especially narratively where is completely forgettable in every way, is laughable. It didn’t pave the way for short, high graphical fidelity, story based games, it just happened to be one because most of the ideas were half baked
@@lt_johnmcclanebro literally look up the length for both games and you have your answer. The whole non-sequitur about 4chan or bit about lootboxes were weird pulls that didn't support any part of his argument, just felt like trying to fluff it out and paint a more sympathetic picture for a game that was just trashed because it was boring as fuck.
You raise some good points you really do, especially the part where you highlight how the game was partly judged not on its own but as a fear of what games could be in the future. However, I think you gloss over the fact that at the end of the day, all this game had going for it, were the graphics. The gameplay was mediocre and most importantly the story was mediocre. When you push the cinematic aspect of your game so much, as a company, and then the story and characters fail to deliver, that's a grave sin. And sure, I get it, it is subjective. You obviously enjoyed the story very much, I didn't. But I think it's fair to say that most of the people who played the game were not blown away by the story. At least that's the feeling I get from all the user reviews etc. In any case, this was a very interesting video and like I said you raised some very good points.
@@marcelmathes Well considering third person cover shooters have been considered by many the de facto mediocre experience, yeah. RDR2 was a fine enough game if you ignored the cover system, and had plenty of other interesting things to do as well as having a compelling story. TLOU had a great story to tell, and the cover system made sense because stealth was a key component of the game. I could list more, but theres one thing that generally comes with "a good cover shooter" and its the rest of the game. Has anyone EVER said "wow this cover system is amazing, im really having a great time with it"? That and the game play (as ive seen, i havent played the game) looks a touch clunky even for a third person cover shooter.
I cant agree. I still find the story and characters to be interesting and the subtleties throughout are awesome. Its definitely one of my favorite stories involving warewolves and vampire . Not to mention I love Knights and such so the combination is a dream for me. I came from 360 with Gears to the PS4 and the gameplay of this game made me feel at home. Minus the Lancer but adding some of its own flair. I really like the slow down mechanic for when your in some tight spots with multiple enemies and having the ability to revive yourself is nice and feels special bc it doest give you a second chance. Some of the weapons feel better than anything I experienced in gears when it comes to bullet related weapons and even some of the Tesla guns are the type I wished I had in a gears game. I like that they wanted to tell a story with gameplay throughout. They had a vision and Im glad they stuck to it as this game shows so much incredible potential. With its plot structure and lore it could be way bigger a sensation that AC imo. They just need to refine a bit add some multiplayer co op or online and it would be perfection in my book.
Yes, it was pretty short. I think the point in which Luke was wrong (in my opinion) to compare it with RE 8 is that The order 1886 is a lot more linear and limited in its gameplay than RE 8, that limitation forces the player to actually just do the stuff thats in front of him, which was shooting and completing the story, spanning the average lenght of the game to around 5-7 hours total (depending on the player). While in RE 8 you have more freedom to walk around, do different things gameplay wise and also, if the player wants, do collectibles, which gives a lot more variety and fun on the gameplay aspect, ending on a average game lenght time of 9-12 hours. The Order 1886 had a very good and interesting setting, but it failed to be a GAME in my opinion, thats what ultimately killed it.
@@nilodragon95 I agree. It was like an interactive movie (which doesn't have to bad, just think of Telltale, and similar games ) but at the time it was a presentation of graphical capabilities of PS 4. And as such it is great but you can definetly feel that there is so much potential for an amazing game experience.
It wasn't mocked for having QTE, it was mocked for relying far too much on QTE and having them shoved into the game constantly. Almost everything in that game involved QTEs, the biggest part being that ALL of the boss fights were nothing but QTEs that had to be played just in that one way with no deviation.
Cinematic masterpiece might not be a very positive thing when said about a game. They should've either made an actual movie or an actual game but instead they sat somewhere in between.
I respectfully disagree with this point. I absolutely love a game that can be extremely cinematic and beautiful, that is still fun to play for me personally. Those are actually probably my favorite games at this stage in my life where I’ve transitioned into mainly liking story heavy games instead of stressing myself out with something I have to repeatedly try to get good at or something that is multiplayer.
Loved this game -- even understanding its flaws -- and will always hope for a sequel. It feels like a game that could -- with a few tweaks (and possibly timing) -- have been a hit.
I agree with everything except the fame you chose as example re8 is meant to be played through more than once on harder difficulties and theres mercenary mods and unlocks replayability might be the reason it got a better score
Yeah, but at it's core: it's more of what you've already played. There isn't any new story content outside of that initial playthrough. I tried getting through a second playthrough and I gave up. I wish the games narrative just had a bit more to dig into.
@@CyborgSodaCollects that's why context matters. people were ok with re8, because it was a return to the survival horror the series was kinda trying to return to. re3re was a failure, and people were afraid capcom would just go and do 6 again. there's nothing of the sort for the order. on the contrary, it fooled people into thinking it was a far bigger game than it was. and what it was can be described as mediocre tps, sony's atempt at gears of war. its hilarious how the video tries to sell this "but it was so misunderstood", it wasnt, it was a game about an anti were wolf team, that doesnt actually fight were wolves the majority of the time, and to make things worse, the times they do, are atrocious.
@@CyborgSodaCollects Absolutely bogus argument. Games like RE8 and Devil May Cry are deemed replayable solely because the difficulty settings offer significantly different gameplay differences. Even Hitman in that regard. You don’t see people saying Hitman isn’t replayable because “oh we kill the target. Why does it matter how we kill him. tHe nARRaTiVE hAS tO cHAngE”
@@negx3933 Still a dry story based game in comparison to the lore of RE 7. It's a big step backwards. They killed every antagonist in 8, leaving this entry as just another stand alone story not pushing the narrative forward in really any particular way. I find the gameplay to be competent, but the repetition or gameplay loop without a intriguing narrative takes a hit off the overall experience imo. Hitman is a brilliant franchise because there so many different ways to approach the target. The Hitman trilogy package is infinitely more replayable than RE8. DMC has a charm that RE 8 never even approaches. These arguments are not very sound. No offense.
@@CyborgSodaCollects re fails when it goes too heavy on their narrative, re2 is the best in the franchise, besides the mention of certain characters, it doesnt really have much to do with 1, be it narrative or setting. same for re4. re5 story would basically be the worst if 6 didnt exist. and they failed, in part, because they tried to return to the prior games narrative. re8 is a great game, its also a great re game, i agree it isnt better than 7, but its far superior to 0, 1, 3, cv(x), 5 and 6. as for your "its dry", its a matter of taste, i saw alot of people who loved it and thought the story was one of the best in the series, but i also saw just as many who thought it was, like you said, dry and weak. as for the hitman comparisson, that makes no sense, as they are completely diferent genres, both were designed for replayability, but in completely diferent ways, its like saying contra is more replayable than the last of us 2... sure, i guess.
I played this not too long ago and got the easy platinum but it was pretty lackluster in my opinion. The story was pretty inconsistent and the mechanics were subpar, the biggest draw to the game (for me) was the werewolves and that just boiled down to repetitive fights. It had potential but I think it needed more time in the oven
I criticised the game then, I still stand by it now. (Even though it feels pleasant in the face of recent live service games) This game needed gameplay elements. If I want to see something cinematic and click buttons in intervals, I’d watch movies or play some of those Telltale Games.
I thought the title was sarcasm. Surprising. Very honest people with very well informed opinions have said terrible things about this game. I suppose that taste is very subjective.
@@lt_johnmcclane I hate to say this, really, but I have no time to play every game that may be good. I bought 7 games that I really really really want to play like 6 months ago and I still didn't finish the first of them. Understand it, risking the little time I have with a divisive game doesn't make sense from a cold and logical point of view. Reviews are there for people like me. But I liked this video. It made a good case, I think, for the game.
@@lt_johnmcclane don't even start the game is trash this isn't a situation were you are woke you just in the minority of people that like this 4 hour game
@@Alfonso88279 dont worry, you arent missing much. just watch a lets play, and you will have 80% of the experience more people who played had, minus the bore that was the combat.
The only truly redeeming factor of the order was its graphical fidelity. The gunplay was stale and the story was uninspired. What RE Village did differently was having replay value, as well as an entirely separate mode, the mercenaries, to make mastering worth doing.
"Is this an out of season April fool's joke?" but seriously, the problem with this game isn't that quick time events existed in the game. The problem is that every boss fight in the game was practically the SAME quick time event. The issue wasn't that the game was short, the issue was that it was a short game with with barely anything interesting in it. It was sold as a game where you fight supernatural monsters, but of the 7 hours the game lasts, you're fighting boring dudes with guns for 6.8 of those hours. If this game was like 30-40 USD instead of full price at launch, it would've been received so much better.
@@otherprisma7354 ehhhh, not really because Uncharted 1 came out in 2007. That's a whole console generation of innovation and lessons in between the 2. If Uncharted 1 came out in 2015 but was the same exact game, and also charged full price, it probably wouldn't have been recieved very well either.
@@jordangill291 its more about the underlying message than the phrase itself being funny (currently, if ever). The video gives this game's creators too much leeway/credit. This game wasn't what it NEEDED to be in the slightest; just an overhyped, launch window tech demo like rise. At least UDF's writing holds up (better than 3's tbh) but 1886 has nothing but visuals/animation going for it meaning they should've tried making movie instead of a game lbs
You can't build a game on atmosphere alone. Yes it's gorgeous, but when the game forces me to slow to a crawl so I can take it all in, but has the audacity to give you no reason to actually explore anything, it's a recipe for disaster. Games aren't movies, nor should they be. Every time my character suddenly started walking and talking I found myself hammering on the non-existent skip cutscene button because I want to PLAY. I don't have a problem with long cutscenes in games, but that's what they should be; cutscenes. Ripping the player's control away within the game itself just makes for a slow, frustrating experience. I got this game for free and still wanted my money back. I legitimately can't believe so many people are retroactively deciding it was good all along. When it came out even the professional game critics hated it.
A good video, but I disagree that it did anything incredible. Graphics were excellent, but as you said, at the sacrifice of a full view of the field of play. Limited weapons, and the best one is only had for moments in the game. It was short, I beat it in a little over 6 hours, and comparing it to RE8 is fine, but that game gets too much praise anyway. The story itself could’ve been interesting, but was poorly thought out and obvious. It’s a GAME and to put gameplay second is beyond ridiculous. A cover shooter that did it worse than any of its kind. QTE is acceptable when the sequence is very cinematic, like snatching a helicopter from the air, but not so much in a bathroom fighting an upright dog. In the end ALL this game had going for it was its visuals, and that was about it. I saw someone say it was the best $5 purchase they’ve ever made and I agree, as that’s how much it cost me as well. When Bend makes a pretty amazing first game in Days Gone, not perfect by any stretch, that had great graphics, fun mechanics (even if it was zombies again) and great gameplay gets canned for a sequel, why would this game ever be granted that. I was a RAD fan from the PSP and was really looking forward to a new franchise and this wasn’t cutting it. Also, they REALLY need to stop showing off games so early and getting people so hyped for a release because by the time it does, it NEVER lives up to that hype. Telltale did a better job in creating a cinematic experience, or Supermassive, this isn’t creating a ripple in the annals of gaming like you think. If you or I are thinking about it, it’s only because you made a video about it. This will come off super negative and that shouldn’t be the takeaway, as I really like Luke’s videos, I just think for this game, there are some serious rose-tinted glasses being worn during the making of this.
"Some of the greatest games ever made"≠ last of us part II. It'd good in gameplay, mediocre to horrible story, by no means is it one of the greatest games ever made. It's a 6/7 out of 10.
It wasn’t just the ”mainstream media” that hated the Order at launch. Everyone did. It wasn’t so much a game as an interactive movie with awful mechanics. As an example just look at the beginning of the ”game” where you are promted to fight against a guard who tries to drown you. However, if you just do nothing the game just waits for you. No death, no game over… just waiting. Great gameplay.
Hahaha I remember angry Joe's review of the game showing that off too. That was freaking hilarious, and you have the same werewolf fight with your knife like 4 times too right? I might replay it for a laugh. Glad I got it for 10 bucks years ago instead of the 60 they charged at launch.
"Some of the best games ever made have QTE's, Spiderman, TLOU2" The best games ever made, The Last Of Us Part 2. It seems the algorithm has failed me this time around.
But lootboxes and big corpo hate hadn't kicked into gear so much by early 2015. Hell, Overwatch, which contributed massively to popularising lootboxes in the public consciousness, didn't come out for another year.
I purchased the game back on release in 2015 and was blown away by the graphics. Since then RDR2 is the only game to come close to matching its graphical fidelity.
I enjoyed the game, my problem was that it was marketed as a horror game where you'd be fighting monsters, werewolves and vampires, the first trailer definitely leaned into that, and that just wasn't what the game was. You fought waves of generic human enemies, 4 very dull rinse and repeat werewolf encounters and 2 virtually identical elder Lycan bosses. The story, characters, setting and atmosphere were amazing. I would love a sequel as there was so much potential here but the game didn't deliver on that promise.
How was it ahead of its time? Beyond Two Souls, Heavy Rain and arguably, The Last of Us had already done what this game intended, and done it better too. And this is a short game, the lenght will always depend on the player's skill , but 9 hours high-ball for 60$ in 2015, the year of Witcher 3, Arkham Knight, Dying Light, Metal Gear Solid V, Bloodborne and Rise of the Tomb Raider .... no Luke...it wasnt evil rasis' incels in 4chan who made the game fail because they was hatin' on them stunning and brave queens, you sad, sad little man, this game failed because it was bad, graphically it was genuinely impressive, but even then....Order 1886 in 2015 was nowhere near as impressive as Crysis 3 was in 2013 , let alone Crysis 1 in 2007...Metro 2033 in 2010....This is ridiculous Luke. This game had WAY too many qte's and get-behind-cover sections, it is genuinely a bad game, in a logical scoring 50/100 means average, medium quality, mediocre, as the review you denigrated at 8:10 wrongly scored (really, it should've gotten a lower score). This game is not horrible, its too beautiful and it CAN be fun, definitely a lesser game than generic crap like Far Cry 6 or AC Valhalla, you seem to sense a soul in Order 1886 that isn't there, this was in many ways, the absolute most polished turd, in the same way Call of Duty is, but its a differently shaped turd and the sprinkles are less, because there was less money for it.
@@johnwerner6445 he liked the game, no problem there, i love loads of games that are either disliked, or considered bad, my problem is when those people start to point to other games and saying "this is better than that, you are wrong for not liking htis as much". for example, i loved mass effect andromeda, it is my favorite in the franchise, but thats because i didnt really liked the other games. i do think mea is underrated(or was before it came to steam), but i also understand WHY it wasnt as loved. i dont go blaming the other games, or make it look like it is better than it is. i understand it is flawled, i understand why many didnt like it but i also love it despite all that.
RU-vid is really pushing down on gaming videos right now. What does that even mean? You could have just left it at "like/comment/subscribe/hit the bell icon if you enjoy"
I really enjoyed the game. I'm actually used to loving games other people hate. I pretty much ignore everyone's opinions on games, critics and gamers alike.
As you should! Enjoy whatever you want. There isn't a game out there that has at the very least one person who finds enjoyment out it! Just some games happen to have more people who it like it than others.
@@Omega77232 No. I prefer to see for myself if I enjoy a game or not. I've been burned before by listening to people. Critics can't be trusted as they always have an agenda, and gamers' tastes differ.
The storyline in this game is actually good. Very good. I hope a sequel happens someday. This game , together with MGS4 Guns of the Patriots (On PS3) , and Dragon’s Dogma were well ahead of their time based on the year they were launched.
I was really hyped for this game since the first trailers. But then I saw that the game was largely on rails and scripted "movie", my interest blummeted. It started to remind me of David Cage games, which I really dislike... But now, after you can get it for like 5 bucks at a sale: It's a pretty good movie.
Didnt even mention all the technical flaws? Frame pacing was terrible and really struggled to hit 30fps?? I remember playing it at launch and finding it utterly unplayable! Misleading to reference a 4chan post without mentioning why the regular console gamer most likely didnt like the game because of all the technical difficulties??
Struggled to hit 30 fps not according to digital foundry. It had the odd 1 frame drop and one part of the game dropped to 27 other than that it was a solid 30fps.
I loved Order 1886, bought on day one and loved ever minute of it. The world they created, the weapons, and the graphics? Aww man, the graphics! ... To this day is can easily match the level of quality of PS5 games.
I actually picked this up in January after watching some reviews on it, one of them from robin gaming, it’s honestly a pretty cool game. It’s nothing super incredible but it was good 👍. I’d love to see a sequel and maybe even a franchise.
Your points are weak at best. This game deserved what all the critics gave it. Editing*** it is the gameplay that destroyed the game. Remember it is a game not a movie. - and a shooter game, wide vision is whe most important.
Played this game and was blown into amazement how beautiful the game is. To me this is what video game look like. Great story, awesome details.... Those who hated the game should revisit it and let's see what they have to day cos other games are just bulllshit.
I remember how excited I was for this game, I bought it full price and had fun with it. The setting and graphics were definitely what I loved about this game.
The Order 1886 renders at a resolution of 1920 by 800 pixels which results in a pixelcount of 1,536,000. 1920 divided by 800 is 2.4 therefore the aspect ratio is 2.40 : 1. Boggles my mind that you said this but displayed something completely different and also wrong. A resolution of 1422 by 1080 is unheard of in videogames. Also the aspect ratio of the game is not 21 : 9.
One of my top PS4 games. I enjoyed it immensely on my first play-through, which resulted in me picking up the special editions of the game and their associated collectibles. Genuinely ahead if it’s time. I doubt a majority of the naysayers have ever even played it.
Most mainline Resident Evil games are short because they’re designed for speed runs. The exception being 4-6 which were more action focused. The Order is a much slower paced game that doesn’t encourage speeding through and you can’t even skip the cutscenes. I enjoyed the game and I wish we could get a sequel that fully realizes the vision but I wouldn’t say the first game is a underrated masterpiece by any means, it was a decent attempt.
Agreed, hence why RE makes for good replay-ability for some players, cause you beat your time, find collectibles, achievements etc. It allows, even encourages, you to best yourself. Personally not my style but I get the appeal.
I spent like 8 bucks and thought it was great. The graphics still stands up for me. The story writing and setting were second to none for me also. Gameplay was acceptable but nothing too crazy. I'd play a sequel for sure.
Great intro, when will you make the whole video? Where you actually look at the narrative mechanics that were ahead of its time? Where you actually name or talk about the specifics that make this game more worthy of praise than it received? I'm not against this game or anything, I've never played it, and watching your video, I'm no better off than before. What was the point of this?
I learned about this game over a year ago and got it for 4 dollars on the playstation store. This game is amazing and so underatued, it's infuriating to see a masterpiece be hated on for petty reasons.
I adored this game. I played it for the first time recently and I was amazed at its visual quality and liked the cinematic aspect ratio. The voice acting was *chefs kiss* and I really like the lore. Wish it was able to get a sequel.
Heavenly Sword also got mediocre reviews largely due to its short length. It was a a great game and could have been maybe an hour longer but it was a really good experience. I really liked The Order and this video.
This was a great game! I loved every minute of it and would wish a sequel to be made. While it likely won't happen, I still pray that it would. The franchise deserves it. The world-building, characters, and writing deserves it. The Order: 1887! The Order: 1887! The Order: 1887!
Loved this game, played it many times. Its I rollercoaster, albeit a short one, a thrill none the less. Book an evening, rip an edible, and waste a night on an awsum experience.
