Thank you thank you. I very just recently discovered The Ordinary and you. I've spend years and money in the pursuit of healthy skin. I felt all I was doing was paying for fancy packaging and products that didn't work for me I am a very active 70 year old woman, I workout 4 days a week and walk 3 or 4 miles a day. Happy with my physical health but not my skin health. I started doing the research to find a way to a better me and I came across you. I started this regimen 6 weeks go using the product's you suggest and how I love the face I see in the mirror. I look forward to see the results in six months, Your videos are so informative and your knowledge of products have saved my skin. Keep up the good work. Thank you.

On Monday and Friday I do the first PM routine, then Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday the 2nd routine. On Wednesday and Saturday in the PM I use the AHA BHA peel followed by the Marine Hyaluronic. @MelissaVanDijkTheSkinDiet
@MelissaVanDijkTheSkinDiet 3 года назад
Yes, it does, if you have mineral oils or/and petrolatum. But plant oils can penetrate into the skin and petrolatum, or dimethicone etc. only sits on top. Therefore, you should apply facial oils like rosehip seed oil, borage seed oil, argan oil before your cream.

Hello, hm The Ordinary does not really have specific products for rosacea. Certain ingredients may work, such as Azelaic Acid and Borage Seed Oil. For wrinkles, you can try the Granactive Retinoid 2% in Squalane. And also a moisturizer since you have dry skin. A routine could look like this: AM: The Ordinary Squalane Cleanser Moisturizer (Example La Roche Posay Ultra Fluid) Azelaic Acid Suspension SPF PM1: (2-3 times a week): The Ordinary Squalane Cleanser Granactive Retinoid 2% in Squalane PM2: (rest of the week) The Ordinary Squalane Cleanser Moisturizer mixed with Borage Seed Oil (One pea-sized amount of your moisturizer and 2-3 drops of the oil)

The 100% Ascorbic Acid is excellent but not suitable for stinging skin types. I would say the best for sensitive skin is the Magnesium Ascorbyl Solution 10%! It also gave me the best results. See here: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-s3PX-PavgFo.html

The PM layering cannot be correct, the oil goes last in the routine
@MelissaVanDijkTheSkinDiet
@MelissaVanDijkTheSkinDiet 3 года назад
No, the plant oils have smaller molecules that can penetrate the skin. The Moisturizer usually has larger molecules due to havier barrier ingredients that sit on top, for example, silicons. So if you apply the Moisturizer before the plant oil, the oil cannot penetrate this barrier. And generally speaking with The Ordinary Moisturizer does not matter at all since it does not include much of it so you can apply it before or after the results will be the same. I now feel that it works best when only using one of them.

At my first use I feel some irritation like itchiness but tolerable but on my second and third day of using it I didn't EXPERIENCE ANY IRRITATION ANYMORE! Im confused why😅. I dont know if im doing it wrong or my skin adapt immediately or the product doesn't work anymore? Please help. Im really confused. I'll appreciate if you reply 😊
@MelissaVanDijkTheSkinDiet
@MelissaVanDijkTheSkinDiet 4 года назад
With any new formulation, some sensitivity or initial redness can be normal. Initial redness upon application is not a cause for concern if it goes away after a few moments. Every skin is different since not everyone has the same skin tolerance. Some people have no problems at all other ones have to be really careful when introducing a new product to the skincare routine. If you don't have an irritation anymore when using it then your skin is fine and has adapted. Just make sure always to have an eye on your skin so that you can react correctly based on what's going on!😊

@MelissaVanDijkTheSkinDiet
@MelissaVanDijkTheSkinDiet 4 года назад
Hello Burcu, Since you are new to this, I recommend starting with an easy but effective routine so that your skin can adjust to the products. Otherwise, you likely get skin irritation. A routine can look like this: AM: Cleanser (Suitable for your skin type) Hyaluronic Acid 2% Niacinamide 10% + 1% Zinc Ascorbyl Glucoside Solution 12% (Best option Magnesium Ascorbyl Phosphate but out of stock!) (Optional Moisturizer, see how it goes without first!) SPF PM: Cleanser (Suitable for your skin type) (Optional Caffeine Solution for eye bags, dark circles etc.) Hyaluronic Acid 2% Mandelic Acid 10% Natural Moisturizing Factors + HA I can't give you any recommendations for the cleanser, try a few and see what works best for your skin 😀 It is a simple but effective routine that you can use on a daily base. However, to avoid skin irritation, it's recommended to do a patch test and incorporate one product after another into your regimen. It’s recommended using no more than 3 serum formulations in a single routine for optimal skin penetration. About 2-3 drops of each serum and 1 pea-sized amount of creams should be enough for the full face and neck. Use a "patting" application method, as opposed to "rubbing." Always apply sunscreen when you are exposed to the sun!! Some products can have a foaming effect upon application depending on the other products you are using in your regimen. The foaming should not last longer than a few seconds and both should not remain sticky once absorbed into the skin. (Video: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-r04W7rQV1R0.html) "Pilling" (snakeskin, shedding) can occur due to too much product. Your skin can only absorb a certain amount of product, and any excess will be left on top of the skin so that when the next product is being applied, it rubs off. (Video: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-l_C7HtO826A.html) If you want to know why I put the products in this order and figure out what you need to choose, you can watch the following video: How to Create a Skincare Routine With The Ordinary Products - A Beginners Guide: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-png_aAg5B0A.html

She can have a whole routine like this: The Ordinary Skincare Routine for Over 50: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-Or85ieldQpA.html But honestly, if she is using retinol 0,2 - 0,5% or a retinoid such as Tretinoin 0,05% (if you can get it), that is enough. And while using it, it is also important to wear SPF (if she has a lot of sun exposure). That's bascially it ;)

Hey, 😀 the easiest way is to create a second AM routine. Cleanser Alpha Arbutin Naicinamide Azelaic Acid SPF Be careful when layering those products since the formulations are tricky to blend, less is more. If you come across issues, try to wait for a little between the Niacinamide and Azelaic Acid and make sure that the products can thoroughly soak into the skin; otherwise, it will pill. :)

This sounds like a fantastic idea, Melissa. It's only one month since I started vit C so using the lowest derivative ascorbyl glucoside. Once that bottle is over will level up. Do you think I can still level up to this vit C suspension?? My current routine looks like this. AM- Cerave gentle cleanser, TO HA, TO Ascorbyl Glucoside 12%, Aveeno Moisturizer, Paula's Choice SPF 50 PM1- (3 times) Cerave gentle cleanser, TO HA, TO Retinol .2% in squalene, Moisturizer PM2- (2 times)Cerave gentle cleanser, TO HA, TO Mandelic Acid, Moisturizer PM3- (2 times) Cerave gentle cleanser, TO HA, TO Niacinamide, Moisturizer My main concerns are dullness, wrinkles, fine lines, pigmentation. would you see any gap that I should work on.

@MelissaVanDijkTheSkinDiet Год назад
Hey again! :) As we talked about in the group, you can add Niacinamide to your AM routine. Yes, you can, overtime, move up to the Vitamin C Suspension (if you still feel the need). However, we need to change your routine because the Vitamin C Suspension is advertised to be used in the evening. So, you would need to use Mandelic Acid in the AM (keeping the frequency in mind) and alternate between Retinol and Vitamin C in the PM. Keep both, Retinol and Vitamin C in the fridge :)

Hello Melissa, I came across your RU-vid video and found your Anti-aging skincare routine very helpful. As this is my only skin concern, I have a few questions that I hope you can answer: 1) Can I use The Ordinary Natural Moisturizing Factors + HA instead of Rosehip seed oil both in the morning and at night? 2) Is it possible to include an AHA+BHA peeling solution? If yes, how often should I use it? I currently use it once a week at night. 3) I have some facial hair and was wondering if there's a need to increase the number of drops of these skincare products. 4) I've never used cleansers in my skincare routine before. Should I start with your recommended routine or is this step optional for me? 5) Should I wait a minute or two between applying each product in the same routine or can I apply them right away? Thank you in advance for your help.
@MelissaVanDijkTheSkinDiet
@MelissaVanDijkTheSkinDiet Год назад
1) Yes, I believe that might work even better. You might also consider their new product, Natural Moisturizing Factors + Beta Glucan. It's very lightweight and feels almost non-existent on the skin. 2) Yes, and the frequency really depends on your personal skin tolerance. You may need to reduce it over time because of the other treatments you're using during the same day. 3) I'm unsure about that. However, if you have a "stubble beard" or something similar, it might not be needed. I suggest testing it out to see what works for you, but be careful not to overdo it. These treatments have a high concentration of the active ingredient. 4) That's unusual. How have you been cleaning your face? Have you ever used any sunscreen or makeup? 🤔 5) Technically, you can apply them right away. However, depending on the formulation, I've found that waiting 30-60 seconds between applications can help the layers to absorb better.
@AlexMarushchak
@AlexMarushchak Год назад
@@MelissaVanDijkTheSkinDiet Oh, that was a fast response))) I appreciate that. As to sunscreen and makeup: never makeup, sunscreen - every day. I live in Ho Chi Minh City (Vietnam), and going outside without clothing over the whole body or sunscreen is basically suicide. My sunscreen is very lightweight, Japanese "MUJI Sunscreen SPF50+ PA++++", and I wash it off with water. It doesn't leave any white cast, though I use it only after Ordinary Natural Moisturizing Factors + HA, as it tends to dry my skin a bit. All in all, I wash my face while taking a shower with water. I do not have breakouts or struggle with acne, just possible cuts while shaving rarely occurs.
@MelissaVanDijkTheSkinDiet
@MelissaVanDijkTheSkinDiet Год назад
@@AlexMarushchak Yes, it's very quiet these days on RU-vid. You can really feel the market downturn, and the mood swings in the comments and views due to the escalating global situation. Anyway, you may need a cleanser to properly remove oil-based products from your skin for better layering, especially when using their suspensions because of the silicones or oils they contain. But overall, you need to test it out-if it works well for you without a cleanser, then just continue doing so. If the sunscreen comes off easily, it's really not a concern. But once you try a mineral formulation with heavy zinc oxide, you'll understand why these cleansers were invented-haha!

I thought the Buffet came last in a routine since it is the thickest? Also I thought EUK couldnt be used in the same routine as other acids/some products
@MelissaVanDijkTheSkinDiet
@MelissaVanDijkTheSkinDiet 3 года назад
Most water-based serums all have a very similar texture, and technically you can layer them in any order. EUK should not be combined with highly acidic treatments, Pure Vitamin C (EAA/LAA), and Buffet + Copper Peptides 1%.

Hey :) 😀 hmm, The Ordinary recommends "using no more than 3 serum formulations in a single routine for optimal skin penetration." So in this case you need to skip one of the other serums or include it in the Tuesday, Thursday, Saturday and Sunday routine before Rosehip Seed oil. Also, I recommend watching the following video so that you understand how to layer the products properly 😀: How to Create a Skincare Routine With The Ordinary Products - A Beginners Guide: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-png_aAg5B0A.html

at what age should you start with an anti aging routine? I'm 30 years old and I'd like to prevent but I don't know if it is too early?
@MelissaVanDijkTheSkinDiet
@MelissaVanDijkTheSkinDiet 2 года назад
The sooner you start, the better the results. But the most essential step is sunscreen. But the ingredients/products you use may change if you are younger, so peptides are generally not recommended in your twenties, but retinol is most often used. So you can use all of them 🤪 The reason for this is because Peptides tend to not penetrate the skin as well (if at all) and when being older your skin becomes thinner and they may penetrate better giving you better results. Anyway, so yes, you can definitely start building an anti-ageing routine. And my recommendation would be to use a good and gentle retinol formulation (0,3%) to start (the best I have tried are from La Roche Posay and Paula's Choice) AM: Cleanser Sunscreen (Example COSRX Aloe Soothing Sun Cream) PM: Cleanser Retinol 0,3% Of course, there are tons of options, and you can also build one with The Ordinary products. And they have a builder see here: theordinary.com/en-at/regimen-builder.html

What Granactive Retinoid did you get? You can do it like this: AM Routine: - Gentle Cleanser - Argireline Solution - Buffet - (Optional) Moisturiser - SPF PM 1 Routine: - Gentle Cleanser - Granactive Retinoid - (Optional) Moisturiser PM 2 Routine: - Gentle Cleanser - Glycolic Acid - (Optional) Moisturiser Alternate between PM 1 and PM 2, especially when being new to Glycolic Acid and Granactive Retinoid. How often you can use Glycolic Acid during the week depends on your skin concerns. Some people can use it daily whereas others prefer to use it only 2-3 times per week. PM 3 Routine (when not using Granactive Retinoid nor Glycolic Acid): - Gentle Cleanser - Argireline Solution - Buffet - (Optional) Moisturiser I hope this helps! :)

@MelissaVanDijkTheSkinDiet
@MelissaVanDijkTheSkinDiet 4 года назад
Hello, no, you aren't doing it wrong.😀 If it feels comfortable and it can fully absorb into your skin, it's okay. If you can feel or see a layer on top, you applied too much. Most people use way too much product which can lead to irritation or pilling etc. So less is more, especially when you are layering the products. Also, this is based on my experience and what the Ordinary recommends. "We recommend using 1-3 drops of each product, massaging it into the skin until it is fully absorbed in order to move onto the next" Ultimately, there’s no single best way to apply the right amount; it’s all about experimenting to find out what works best for you and then adjusting based on the changing needs of your skin.

@MelissaVanDijkTheSkinDiet 3 года назад
The thing is that every skin is different, and therefore it can change, and there are no best products. It's mostly marketed that way in videos because people always have to sell something ;) But generally, my suggestion would be not to use any products before your workout unless you are doing it outside and are really fussy about sunscreen. In that case, it makes sense to use a mattifying sunscreen before. But otherwise, just do a normal skincare routine for oily skin afterwards, and adjust the products accordingly to your needs :) Since it is just a general guide that I am sharing, depending on your skin, you may want to skip some of it because it can always happen that it isn't working well for you. But in general, it should work! ;)
