So nice to hear the Vierne taken at a reasonable tempo. North Americans in general, and numerous organists all over the world, tend to play Vierne FAR too fast just to show off. It's about the music, the sense of line....and remembering the space that Vierne wrote in and for. Lovely playing.
I'm afraid you're wrong. In cases of St. Patrick's Chathral, St. John the Divine, National Shrine... There are the churches and the organs, they're not Cavaillé-Colls of course, but you can't blame them for that, that's just like saying Vierne doesn't sound good on a Schnitger organ.
It would be also fair to say that American organs in particular simply do not have the texture and colour to present the French romantic repertoire correctly. They do not have the instruments, the history, the buildings. Everything in America is a pale pastiche of what it should be. And that's before we address your valid comment with regard to expetise and emotional flair. The Americans should stick to fast food burgers, and leave everything else to everyone else.
Boz Davide Caro Boz Davide, veramente la liturgia a Notre Dame è un concerto, lo è sempre stato e sempre lo sarà.... basta ascoltare e vedere i video di Olivier Latry, Philippe Lefevre.... senza scomodare Pierre Cocherau. In tutte le chiese di Parigi la liturgia è anche concerto e sempre sarà così. Non siamo a Roma in vaticano fortunatamente. E Johann Vexo per quanto bravo sia non regge al confronto con i suoi colleghi titolari dei grandi organi di Notre Dame.... cento volte meglio quando suona all'organo liturgico!
Ma assolutamente no, ti sbagli di grosso, la liturgia é una cosa, i concerti altra cosa ancora e i titolari di Notre Dame lo hanno già evidenziato più volte in diverse interviste! Durante l'azione liturgica l'organo non é il centro, e l'organista svolge semplicemente il suo ministero di animatore liturgico. Questo lo sapeva molto bene anche Pierre Cochereau!!! Forse per gli atei che bazzicano a Notre Dame sarà un concerto, non certo per i cristiani!!!
