My guess is that they're Zonai priests assigned to the sacred springs. This is because their Compendium entries refer to the three dragons as guarding their respective springs, and Zelda coming to our aid during the final battle suggests that even if they lose everything else about them, they seem to at least recall the purpose for why changed in the first place.
@Uneke
@Uneke 3 месяца назад
They were definitely like rarus wife, and had inner powers. Those powers are what dictate the type of dragon you’ll be, as Zelda, having light powers, became a light dragon.
@boomer150
@boomer150 Месяц назад
Zelda as the light dragon also retained her purpose. When you attempt to take The Master Sword from the light dragon the dragon will attempt to buck you off. Zelda's purpose of protecting The Master Sword remained within her through the dragonification. She however didn't have enough awareness to recognize Link or she wouldn't fight him. She would simply release the sword for him willingly. The purpose was probably something like "protect The Master Sword" and that's all.

@@TheLitman72 it’s probably moreso that Zelda’s purpose was to “Protect hyrule” and she probably forgot about the sword implanted in her head. So trying to buck link off was probably just animalistic instinct bc he was hurting her. The reason why I think as a dragon her purpose was to protect hyrule was bc she’s the only dragon out of all four of them to fly over ALL of hyrule instead of one designated area. (She’s also the only dragon that doesn’t fly down into the depths, which adds to my theory that she’s patrolling the skies to protect her kingdom) I think if it was just about the sword she would’ve stayed around the temple of time or hyrule castle instead of patrolling the entire kingdom. So that would explain why she came to links aid, she spotted the one dragon that was causing harm to the land and came to destroy it, that’s why she was released from it after Ganon’s dragon was defeated, bc she had fulfilled her purpose and could remember herself again. But thats just a theory lol (i know that her turning back is mostly bc of Link, king Rauru and Sonia combining their powers, but narratively i also believe their spirits cleansed her *after* her purpose as the light dragon was fulfilled). Also this is off topic but this game had one of the few instances in the series where Zelda has the courage to physically fight back too and that was incredible to watch narratively. (a few other examples being her as Sheik in Ocarina, or her in the new Wisdom game that just came out.) It was just really cool to watch both Link AND Zelda take Ganon out together. This is the first time I’ve seen her use her body AND her spirit to protect what she loves (her body protects hyrule as a dragon and her spirit is repairing the master sword), so it makes it feel like our Zelda decided to do all of this. So this all feels like the Princess of the Wilds sacrifice, instead of the reincarnated goddesses destiny. (another cute detail is that the Hero of the Wilds only mission is to “Save Zelda” not hyrule, Zelda is the most important thing to him so he really feels like *her* chosen knight, not hyrules.)

That contradicts the creation story told by the Great Deku Tree in OoT, lore, depiction, and (inheritable) power of the Triforce shown in OoT, WW, TP, SS. They are way above and beyond any formerly mortal dragons.

The zonai only existed after the fall of the last kingdom of hyrule. The golden goddess predate all of that. Besides we know what the zonai are. There’s no evidence of them being exactly the Goddesses. That’s along the same thinking of the Light Spirits or the three dragons of Skyward Sword or the Oracles are the “Goddesses”, which they’re not. These three dragons are labeled as “spirits” which is an entirely different tier to gods. The last time the Goddesses bothered with Hyrule was any time the Triforce was used for wishes or power, but most directly in Wind Waker when they flooded Hyrule. The Deku Tree and the Sheikah keep track of records of these legends according to Ocarina of Time and the Goddesses left their creation behind with the Triforce until they are directly called upon via the Triforce. Plus the Goddesses are more directly connected with Hylians, and if these dragons were Hylian in nature, they would have more similar appearance to the Light Dragon, which they don’t. Their appearance is more like that of Rauru and Mineru and Mineru would only have this knowledge if any one of her kind has done it in the past. The secret stones were not passed to the other races until TotK’s Ganondorf decided to unalive Sonia and steal her stone.

But there is another thing that could even be related to the triforce. Every dragon (except Zelda’s) has a small triangle behind one of its spikes, of course, if you combine them, you get the triforce. So what if the dragons aren’t ex-Zonai but rather manifestations of each triforce piece?

My head canon is that the three dragons were the ancient zonai spring attendants who swallowed the tear and stuff. Nothing new here. But given the fact that Rauru and Mineru, the last zonai we know of didn't even know about the Master Sword. I kinda think there was a VERY ancient calamity or something that saw the need for desperate measures like the attendants becoming dragons to safeguard the springs and the ancient hero with the master sword comes to play somewhere. Years pass, no one remembers the ancient hero's name and neither the original attendants of the springs but just refer to the dragons with names derived from the three goddesses.

The Zonai were worshipped as Gods by ancient people on the Surface--ergo, the Zonai embraced this worship and "Sacrificed" 3 of their most prominent or strongest members to devote themselves to the Goddess Hylia. This Event would be recorded as early as [Skyward Sword]/Skyloft took to the sky. The servants of the Springs were of course named from the Goddesses of lore-Farore--Farosh, Nayru--Naydra, and Din--Dinraal. They would live for eternity, but would lose their memories, their loved ones, and their corporeal bodies to become the Guardians of not just the Springs, but the Zonai themselves... Pray to these figures, and remember them for not just the Goddesses of yore, but as mighty deities who watch over us, and forever serve our great, Golden Goddess-Hylia. Amen.

Mm, not quite. Although the Zonai do clearly have comnections to dragons, though it appears more as a cultural reverence towards these legendary beings rather than being the source for dragons themselves (aside from draconification, which is taboo for a reason). The Hylia statues at the Sacred Springs all refer to Farosh, Naydra, and Dinraal with she/her pronouns (so they're not male Zonai), and the statues alongside the info in the compendium both imply that these three are (for lack of a better term) True dragons; entities born from powerful energy stemming from the divine power of the springs. Also, their names are derived from the three Golden Goddesses who created the world, and the Triforce: Farore, Nayru, and Din. All evidence points to the dragons we meet originally in BotW to be separate from draconified mortals. As an aside: we only ever meet two Zonai. There's no reason to assume all Zonai men had long hair that styles out like Rauru's (the legendary Zonai warrior's looks nothing like Rauru's layered hair), nor should we assume all Zonai women sported Mineru's short-do.

I think the Dragons are the 3 Golden Goddesses who ate their respective pieces of the Triforce after witnessing the centuries of destruction it had caused in the hands of mortals and the sacrifice that the Goddess Hylia, Keeper of the Triforce, and her faithful Knight made to stop the Demon King, dooming them to an endless cycle of reincarnation.

The Triforce wouldnt function anything like a secret stone. Their powers and purposes are almost entirely different in addition to the fact that the Triforce or at least a piece of it still exists in Zelda during BotW. The Goddesses are also morally neutral, and created the Triforce to be used by anyone with a balanced spirit, regardless of whether they're good or evil. It doesn't seem likely that they would be regretful or sympathetic of anything. And finally, being a dragon is such a downgrade, considering they created the world. They could probably destroy the Triforce if they wanted to. The Triforce can even destroy itself (A Link Between Worlds) and they're above its power.

Nah, the Zonai are a different race from the Goddess Tribe. They’re blessed by the Gods, like the Hylians were, the Surface dwellers just ignorantly assumed them to be deities because they came from the sky. The Golden Goddesses who created the world, as told in the creation story of Hyrule, are an entirely different ballpark from the Zonai. And they’re definitely not mere Dragons.
@ticktockvaudevillian2211

The three dragons are undoubtedly servants of the Golden Goddesses, though, considering their proximity to the Springs and subservience to Hylia, who is herself a servant of the Three Goddesses.

@archdiangelo7930

My personal theory is that the three dragons are the original three goddesses. Think about it, three goddesses descend from the heavens: Farore, Nayru, and Din. They're said to be extremely powerful, just like a Zonai with a secret stone. When a Zonai eats a secret stone, they become a dragon. I'm pretty sure the dragons are all female but I couldn't tell you where I heard that. And each of the dragons bears an element similar to one of the goddesses: fire for Din/Dinral; ice for Nayru/Naydra; and while wind and lightning aren't the same thing for Farore and Farosh, it could be like a storms thing, the sky, something like that. So, here's my theory: the three goddesses were part of a previous generation of Zonai that descended from the heavens in the ancient ANCIENT past, stuff happened, and they eventually consumed their secret stones to become eternal guardians for Hyrule. Hell, maybe they didn't know it would happen, maybe that was how the Zonai found out about the dragon thing in the first place, who knows.
@blackstiele9594
@blackstiele9594 4 месяца назад
They’re kinda like your explanation. But I believe that they were once goddesses that created Hyrule. Farosh was once Farore, Naydra was once Nayru, and Dinraal was once Din, those were the 3 goddesses.
@speedstorm0332
@speedstorm0332 4 месяца назад
How would the Goddesses fall from grace then? They're gods. They wouldn't have just turned themselves into dragons, something else must've. I find it unlikely that someone or something dragged the Goddesses from whatever divine realm they were in and turned them into dragons, and did nothing to them afterwards.
@blackstiele9594
@blackstiele9594 4 месяца назад
After they completed the labors of creating Hyrule, the goddesses departed for the heavens, but not before leaving behind the Triforce, with each golden triangle representing a small portion of the essence of the goddesses. They gave one of each to 3 certain kind of persons in Hyrule. Ganondorf- Was given the Triforce of Power. Zelda- Was given The Triforce of Wisdom. Link- Was given the Triforce of Courage. After doing this she started a process that shedded her divinity and power to mortify herself. While doing this she supposedly perished. Therefore Zelda, with the Triforce given to her, is now the what most people call, “Mortal reincarnated Hylia.”

I've actually been super interested in the dragons and have been collecting information that I thought was interesting Facts about the dragons The light dragon being the youngest dragon has weaker horns Then the rest of the dragons If I'm correct it's +16 compared to +26 Implying that the three dragons were created at the same time (does anyone else smell a future Zelda game 😊) Also that inconsistency isn't obvious to the people you sell the horns and scales too because they still sell for the exact same even though The light dragon horns are weaker Also while riding the dragons I got a much closer look at their faces and I really do not think they were all zonai For example out of all the dragons the fire spirit has the shortest nose implying that they may have been goron because it seems some characteristics stay with you I Also noticed that the ice dragons horns are more like a plumage of feathers and almost like a beak muzzle Spoilers for more of the tear memories We can tell that the light dragon used to be hylian because they kept the most prominent features like the sharp ears and narrow face features Of course you could counter this theory by saying that they all have big floppy ears meaning they all came from big floppy eared zonai But I feel like the dragons would look a bit too similar if they all came from one species
