It seems to me like the game, at first, was supposed to be set during the time everything went wrong. A very early stage of the beast blood infection and a very early stage of the hunts. Seems like you were supposed to play as Laurence's friend during the start of the epidemic, which could've given us some very interesting character development. I would've loved to play through the game, see your close friend Laurence make more and more mistakes, and end up having to take him out in the Old Hunter's DLC. I love the air of mysteriousness the current game has about it. Something obviously happened that you have no idea of, and you're just there to survive, and you never really find out what happened between Laurence, Willem and Micolash and how they lived. It kinda makes my heart ache, because I know that the game is probably better like this, as the mystery adds to the lovecraftian fear theme, but god what would I not give for some deep insight as to what the storyline REALLY is.
This reminds me of the original draft for Dark Souls where we were to play as Priscilla. In both cases, they decided in favour of your character being completely blank besides a curious starting situation. Which I must say I appreciate for roleplay value.
They switched it to the more common Dark Souls format of playing the game *after* the disaster had already happened. I guess they were too uncomfortable with the mystery genre, but warm and cozy with Lovecraftian mystery.
I have always been saying how it makes no sense the player character would receive a blood transfusion the same evening the hunt is on. It would be super risky for the wheelchair man to be out during the hunt just to give some random outsider some blood. Instead I always thought there must some time between you signing the contract and waking up to the actual game; day at the very least. I propose what happens is, you receive the blood, start healing slowly, but during the next full moon, someone else in the clinic´turns into a beast; the same werewolf you are supposed to die against at the beginning of the game. You are about to turn aswell, but the messengers stop the transformation into a beast, instead turning you into a Hunter. "The old lore" in this video kind of confirms that theory, from the very early on your character was supposed to be someone who spent long time in practical coma and suddenly woke up into a nightmarish world. I also think the original "quest" where you try find your missing friend Laurence, was re-purposed in DS3 when you try find Gael from the Ringed city; Gael turns into a monster and I suppose Laurence's beast form would have been the final boss of the early Bloodborne story
Ipa yeah bro. I always thoght that was the case. When you wake up the whole place is trashed and the city is fucked. I doubt this gal would have walked into a city where the people litter the streets with coffins ahaha
My thoughts exactly. The Gael part of your comment actually makes sense. Gael in the Ringed City acts as a guiding light of sorts; making sure you don't get lost on your journey (Like a nice friend). Even before, in the Ariandel DLC he assists you as a phantom. He does this all the way till you get to his boss room where he finally reveals himself. You've found him, and now you have to end him as he is too far gone.
The player character did not receive tranfusion the same night the hunting started ..happens that the blood is cursed and it teleports you to the dream where you hunt, in other words, the yharnam hunting of beasts is endless until somebody kills you and you forget everything, then you wake up healed from any disease you had, that's the trade, healing for hunting
@KevinHM So, to be clear, you're sayng that the whole game (except for the first cutscene and the final in which Gherman kills you) is a dream, right? Because that's my thought too, even if everybody seems to ignore that fact. Have you got some evidences of this simple truth? Some Miyazaki's declarations maybe.
Matteo Zanoncello but dude..the doctor said something like "don't get scare if you see things, think of it like it's just a bad dream", Micolash said that he will wake up and forget everything when we kill him, also Gherman said "you will wake up from this dream and forget everything", the basement is even called "the hunter's dream", obviously is a dream, you don't need to be a lore expert to realize that (atleast that's what i think) Also there are logical signs that it's all happening in a dream, like the fact that you go from a school to a white place with spiders by jumping in a lake or you go from a building to a fishing village by getting out of the building, in a dream you go from a place to another in seconds
I understand why these dialogue lines were removed. All of this sounds like when everyone at the studio were just throwing around ideas. I'm happy that they changed all of this to what we got.
It would have been so unbelievably awesome if we got to see a pre-hunt version of Yharnam at the start of the game, maybe got to chat with some npc's on the street, etc.
So what I gather from this video is that Bloodborne was originally meant to have a very linear story, quite unlike the non-linear stories of other Souls games. This original story seems to have a clear beginning, hints at a single ending, and has story arcs and subplots that the player character is clearly supposed to follow in order to progress through the game. This story would have made Bloodborne much more like a traditional RPG than the other Souls games. Honestly, while there are some very interesting story elements in here, I think it's a good thing that this original storyline was cut. Souls games have a very unique approach to storytelling, where we're left to slowly piece together the story by exploring the game at our own pace and finding new item descriptions that give us hints at why things the way they are. It's like we're given a puzzle that tells a complete story once it's put together, but just like the gameplay, we're left to figure it out ourselves, there's no handholding involved. If Bloodborne had gone with this story, it really would have taken away a lot of the intrigue and mystery of the game. Bloodborne is perhaps the most thematically interesting of the Souls games, with fascinating symbolism and amazing attention to detail, and I think sending us down a more linear path would have cheapened the experience. Is Bloodborne perfect the way it is? No. None of the Souls games are. But I think that making them more like other RPGs would be a mistake.
I'm not sure, but could this be a away for Miyazaki to create the known "vagueness " of his stories ? Meaning that there is always a complete story. When it's done, he removed some parts of it to and leave it as hints in the world.
Ive been looking into all this cut stuff, and for whatever reason I get the feeling that how the game would have played is your first playthrough would have been a prophetic nightmare of what you need to do and ng+ would have been reality where you execute on what you dreamed about with the dialog changed
Great work, Sanadsk. Thanks so much for the time that you've put into this. Bloodborne is a fantastic game, and it's awesome to have the chance to see what was going on behind the scenes.
I offer you my deepest respect, Sanadsk. I appreciate your ongoing effort. You are one of only a handful of Guys (Lance, Vati..) out there truly enriching my Soulsborne(Lore)-Experience. And that coming from a "strict" non-commenter.
A couple things with the translation. The "treatment" church means the "healing" church. The holy grail is the chalice, but that's pretty obvious. "The current me can't help you" is "I cant help you, now" "Days like these are the ones you dont go out and firmly cover your eyes" is "you want to be very aware of your surroundings and pay attention." "There's the will to be afflicted with the disease of madness, be on the verge of death and still live" is something more like "you want to act savagely and come close to being killed without actually being killed." It is what you would say to a dare devil or someone who risks themselves to feel the excitement of possible death. It is also the selling point of Valhalla in Norse mythology. Fight all day, then get resurrected the next day and repeat. The "this town's already done for..." one is a guy that is giving in to the beast and transforming. His crazy laughter turns into a howl as he is losing his mind. "They're for sure man's original form" is "They were once humans/men" "Only I, a human, at the bottom of a well" is probably a flowery way of saying "I'm just a lowly human" but it could also be that the speaker is literally in the bottom of a well by himself having expected to ascend somehow that doesnt require blood, Master Willem style. "They still exist..." is a reframing of the Willem and Laurence flashback. "The damned traitor" is "you seek now, to betray me" etc...
If the word for living liver was 生肝, that's just a "fresh" liver, as in carved from a fresh kill. Can't tell 100% without seeing the original, but that's like one common beginner's mistake.
This is all really neat - it's always interesting to see the game we could have gotten. I wouldn't invest TOO much stock in a lot of the lore though, as it's impossible to tell what they took out because they changed their mind vs what they couldn't fit. Still, a super cool look into what coulda been.
Hey Sandsk I just wanted to thank you for putting out this amazing and fresh Bloodborne content, it is actually my favorite game so it makes me very happy to see new stuff from bloodborne, keep up the great work I'm very excited for the dlc stuff.
He has no name, he was with Dores, the only one who stayed with master Willem, Dores was watching the Yahrnam grave, and the other was guarding the gate.
Julian Adams Yeah, that corpse that lets you into the Forrbidden Woods if you know the password. He was one of the two loyal servants to master Willem, the other being Graveguard Dores. The password gatekeeper was never given a name, but he had a lot of cut dialogue from one of San's previous videos. Since we got some random name drop "Ashton" I'm curious if that is the name of the password gatekeeper.
This is interesting cause I remember in the alpha build, one of Father Gascoigne's lines ends with 'Umbasa'. So maybe, at that time, the game still hadn't changed the story completely.
And THIS is to go even further beyond!... AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAH
Hey @Sanadsk you can probably load the textures on the models quicker just by pressing the 6 key since thats how you usually load a texture, just select the whole object. You can also check wireframes with the 4 key.
the background videos of the modeling and all that, are those models going to be made public? i fucking dream all the time of making bloodborne videos with source filmmaker
Wish the left the equivalent of boss souls(living liver) were left in. It would have probably meant more weapons. Also with some of this dioluge it really looks like this game was supposed to be Des 2
I really think Bloodborne was originally pitched as Demon's Souls 2, but it ended up taking a big enough stylistic change they made it it's own thing, removing the references that remained late in development like characters saying "Umbasa." The Old One, The Great Ones, you already know they came from the same concept, and we see a few enemies that look like renditions of cut Demon's Souls enemies. Someone likeley drew the demons to be more beastly and one artist had drawn up some gothic cathedral as the new Nexus type area and decided to go that direction instead of the knight in armor thing they've done for several games in a row. With the Demon's Souls remaster on PS5 looking more gothic inspired makes me believe this is the route Sony is taking the series. Bluepoint, having learned from remaking Demon's Souls and making assets that fit a gothic setting, might actually be able to pull off a Bloodborne 2. Maybe. We'll see.
The more dialogue, the less you discover for yourself, the more people have the same outcome. I love seeing this cut content because it’s more bloodborne, but I love more that the game is how it is.
Would it be possible to release the models that you are seen editing in the video? Do they have functioning skeletons when ripped from the game? Also these are great and keep coming out fast, its like Christmas never ended lol :) Edit: what if the idea of you and your best friend looking for a cure was altered and made into the gascogine and henryk storyline.
It sounds like this is what the story was before they decided to add all the Lovecraftian themes. Once the Great Ones became the reason behind the Blood, things like the role of the Pthumerians, the story of the Church and the significance of the chalice had to be altered. Just my $0.02
6:40 Wouldn't that be a line for the blood minister or Josefka after you first wake up from Hunter's Dream? Maybe Ashton is the product name of Gehrman?
cant wait for vatiividya to exploit all the effort you have done and shamelessly dump a video that will make him ton of money , while peoples like JerksansFrontier who does real detective work are left into the dust and you aswell
then, all the time we are playing a nightmare, the final events of the total destruction of Yarnham city, because is not normal that after you die in the game seconds later you appear near a lamp, it makes no sense, if I'm wrong please let me know.
Could you check if Brain of Mensis has any attacks? I bet it does! Also, do the blood ministrator have some cut content? I want to see more of him, I find him peculiar and really interesting.
Umbasa huh... what if the "old one" from demon souls is actually a cosmic being? like Moon Presence, Ebrietas and Mergo? but the old one has been trapped under the earth for too long? what if after The Maiden in Black Lul the Old one back to eternal slumber the world became safe again from demon's? then thus starts the Era of Bloodborne? After All there are hints of the Forest of Snakes in Demon souls, the destroyed archstone of the giants was supposed to have those snake enemies from the forest in Bloodbonre...WHAT IF DEMON SOULS is CONNECTED to BLOODBORNE??????
Hey if anyone wants to fight against the three bosses that was cut out the game the glyphs to the dungeons are sikgc3sm arkhv2vs m2vgwtjf just make sure to back up your data first.
Erik Norman look i don't know I didn't make the game, zullie the witch is the one who put out the glyphs to the dungeons so we could all fight against the cut bosses anymore then that you'll need to ask zullie.
i feel like this is gherman's story , when the npc dialogue was talking about lawrence , your freind it made me just thaught , if this story was gherman's before he met lady maria , killed the child of kos?? and etc
Glad this is coming out because it's clear the story was altered dramatically before release. I thought the story bombed after Rom and The Fishing Hamlet still doesn't make sense. (why curse hunters for Byrgenwerth's deeds? why were hunters working with Byrhenwerth at all?)
Gerhman and Maria (the first hunters) who first found the Fishing Hamlet were working with Byrgenwerth and Willam, I'm guessing after all the horrors Byrgenwerth unleashed on the Hamlet the villagers thought that any and all hunters were working with Byrgenwerth therefore cursed them all (this would of been before the Healing Church was formed)
Barracuda007 Perhaps you are correct. It seems odd that Church Hunters would work for Byrgenwerth and there is no explanatiin as to why this was. Even so, the cursing of all hunters because of the actions of three, whilst Byrgenwerth gets away with their role, implies the Orphan of Kos is an idiot.
Gehrman, Maria and the "old" hunters are not church hunters. They predate the church, and evidently operated during a time when Byrgenwerth was still around.
I hope that one day they make a Bloodborne anime, but since there is no canon story line following the player, they would write their own story based on the original script (kind of like the first FMA)
I don't think cut content is very accurate in decoding lore, so I don't think father Norbert is the cleric beast, or if there would be other evidence, I don't think this would be a good reason.
