The Original Items of Super Mario Maker 2 

Most of you understood but I saw a bit of confusion in the comments, this is covering items original to the Mario maker series, not just Mario maker 2. Video is titled with just Mario maker 2 since it looks much nicer than putting both titles, sorry for the confusion!

The rotten mushroom is the smartest enemy in the game, he even runs away when u have a star

The Dry Bones Shell also has another use: you can use the ground pound to *one-shot any boss.*

Funfact: the link dash actually runs the same speed as sprinting normally, the only difference is that you any enemy you hit is killed so it is bassically sprinting and spamming the attack button

The Twister could've had so many useful interactions. For example, you could've put it in pipes to create a gust which has similar properties to the bubble streams from NSMBDS. (Speaking of, So many missed opportunities to add stuff from NSMBDS.)

I miss the silly filters and wall breaking ability of the big mushroom in SMM1. The SMM2 version is pretty bad in comparison. Now you can only break blocks above and below.

The master sword would be better if once you have the power up if you took damage you wouldn’t lose the power up instead it could be like a hearts System or if they get hit they just die and not turn into regular Mario. Edit: Thanks for 100 likes!

06:05 the poison Mushroom in 3D land does follow Mario/Luigi so technically that's an evolution of this and not really a new item

Having been a Mario Maker fan since the first game, there are a lot of uses for things I don't think you're aware of. The Big Mushroom, for example, can be used to make platforming levels where you can only jump once/in specific places or you fall to your doom. It can also be really fun to have a level about moving upwards to get a Big Mushroom, then break the floor as a shortcut back to the bottom of the course where you started - and use it there to break an obstacle stopping you from getting to the goal. It also changes Mario's size, which makes it much harder to avoid hazards and enemies as your hitbox grows bigger. It's also great for troll levels which, while very niche, are very popular on youtube and Twitch. Also, some items in this video get talked down because they lend themselves to having levels built around them rather than being dropped into any level, others in the last half get complimented for this without it being called out as a downside. I like the overall video and it's presented well, but a lot of it comes across as personal opinion without much research or experience with certain items. I feel like the part that mentions shelmets are used in "big machines" (or "contraptions" as we say in the Mario Maker community) was definitely researched, but other items were just toyed around with in the editor in-game and limited experience.

You forgot the best mechanic in the car: if you press the run button, you get the mlg airhorn sound

One-way walls conceptually debuted in Yoshi's Island with flippers.

You can also attach Wings to the Goomba shoe / stiletto, and if you fly with the Stiletto version it lets out a weird laugh.

I have a feeling that the most a dry bones would be in smash would be as an assist trophy.

You missed the blue snake block, but I think that's a good thing since nobody ever uses it.

I always thought you should've been able to place Twisters into pipes, not so that they would spawn out indefinitely, but so that the pipe sends out wind in the direction it's facing, kind of like some underwater levels in nsmb wii. Maybe the different colors could have sent out wind at different intervals or at different lengths

It would be awesome if link was in all styles like oracle of seasons for SMB3, link to the past for SMW, toon link or link between worlds for NSMB, and links awakening remastered for 3D world More link variation….

I think the Red POW Box is a bit more useful than you give it credit for. It’s certainly not groundbreaking or anything, but I have seen some very creative puzzle levels using it that require the player to be strategic with where and when they use the 3 pow explosions. I do agree overall though that 90% of the time you can very easily just use a Red POW Block. Very well put together video, by the way. Looking forward to the moon ranking video.

Twisters first debuted in SMB3, even if there was only one in the entire game. Tornado-like objects were in a multitude of other Mario games too, like NSMBDS and both Galaxy games. The only thing new about them in SMM2 is that there’s small white creatures producing the twisters now.

15:16 actually fire sledge bros made an appearance in the super Mario World show, specifically in the episode where Luigi takes care of a baby yoshi (the episode where Luigi says “that’s mama Luigi to you mario) the baby yoshi is attacked by the fire sledge bro. Edit: thanks to @Egon 370 it was actually a fire sumo bro, not to be confused with a normal sumo bro. Does the fire sumo bro do anything different than a normal sumo bro? Fun fact: putting a twister five blocks below gravity blocks like sideways springs can have a portion of the floor rise slightly higher which can be fun for boss fight arena’s

You bringing up Heavy Fire Bros merely reminded me of how Fire Bros are still exclusive to 3D World. I can only hope SMM3 would fix this(and maybe add Boomerang Bros. If you have the Power Up, add the Bro, it makes sense)

12:37 - I've played Snow Kingdom in Mario Odyssey, which has a twister at the beginning.

Technically this is the first time Smb2 Mario was in a true Mario game, since Mario USA/SMB2 was a reskin of a Japanese game called Doki Doki Panic.

*the original items of Super Mario Maker 1/2 Goombrats are based off of the Galoomba Claws seem to be based off of swinging platforms

Honestly if they add 1 more exclusive item for the 4 gamestyles in smm3 they could do, nsmbu, ice flower, penguin suit and Smw, power flower / wings for yoshi along with yellow and blue yoshis Smb 3, hammer suit Smb 1, a powerup from super mario bros special such as the hammers (Bonus) 3dworld, maybe add a throwable hat that doesn’t take control of enemies just for parkour or the speed flowers from oddysey, as a replacement to the car or speed pannels.

An idea for your odyssey moon ranking would be to split it into parts, probably 8 parts would be good since it is 110 moons a video

I just thought of an idea for the Master Sword: You would only have the sword, but if you were to get the other powerups, mainly the Big Shroom or the Fire Flower, you could gain the ability to use Arrows or bombs, even having both active.

so like... when you use the dry bones shell and press down, is your character hiding in the bones, or do they actually turn into bones?

Fun fact: The claw looks different depending on what its holding. If its holding something light like a star, its happy in NSMBU and has a green light in the other styles. Butwhen its holding something heavy like bowser, it has a sad face and a red lighf. There might be an in between, but im not sure

With the big mushroom you could jump on an on off block and bounce off and activate it to go to a secret area on a wall.

I used the big Mario power up to make an Ice Climber inspired level One issue was that I wanted to add enemies, but if Mario were to get hit by one he’d lose the power up and you need the power up for the level to work :/ wish it was possible to make a power up last the whole level so you don’t have to constantly have pipes to give you more.

Still think they should've called goombuds, galoombrats 🤭😤 Btw giant Mario's sprites aren't always the same as small Mario's, their crouching ones r different

the blue mechakoopas lightning is sorta reminiscent of the skewers, but its a lot more convenient to use

Did you know? If you ride a fire yoshi with a fire flower it shoots three fireballs? Using this and the same mechanic with the fire clown car you can ride a fire yoshi in a fire clown car meaning you shoot SIX FIREBALLS I hope this helps 😊

I just realized the bullet bill mask has the exact same ability set as the bullet bill capture in Mario Odyssey you can drive but after a while it blows up and if it hits a wall it blows up only didrences are it isn't 3d and you can refuel it eith more mask
