When you re-watch the show, you realize how problematic it is. These are century, year-old men preying on children. Stefan/Damon doesn’t even actually love Elena like they claim they do. They only love her b/c she looks exactly like Katherine. When you let that sh*t sink in you realize the whole Vampire Diaries universe revolves around the fact Elena looks like Katherine. The brothers only wanted to get with Elena b/c she looks just like Katherine. If they would’ve just left her alone, imagine how normal her life would’ve been. She would’ve have gotten with Tom (Stephan’s) doppelgänger, & all of them would’ve lived happy lives, but nope. B/c the Salvatore brothers were obsessed with Katherine they wanted Elena to fulfill the Katherine void they have within them.
Lol maybe damon but not stephan. Stephan is drawn to elena by nature cause he himself is a doppelganger and can not help it .... Same way katherine can't help but be obsessed with stephen and same way elena can't NOT love stephen. The only reason she ended up with damon in the show is because the fans wanted it that way cause the actors were dating in real life. So really the only selfish one here is damon. Stephen can't exactly help it ....
If you watch clearly, it is petrova blood line who loves the both brothers starting from klaus and Elijah. It's no one's mistake. It's the curse of the Petrova blood line
