I always enjoyed how you were given the feeling that you were the crash test dummy and that there really was a crew of researchers monitoring your car in real time through each test.
One of the most disappointing things about the new version is that they completely eliminated tests like the rough road blocks and the hot and cold rooms. The latter two now consist of dark walls and a mirror with a projection that looks like it could be on an Iphone app.
@@themeparkreview Personally I think it’s way too futuristic it makes it feel like as if you were living in the 22nd century. I think the original one is better as it definitely fits into our 21st century timeline
I've been on this version back in 2010 and I like this one better. I saw the video that you guys did for the new one and it just looks to high tech for me. This one looks and feels like you are actually testing out your "new" car.
@@disneyscott98 It showed real tests that cars at GM go through- that's not something that becomes "outdated-" they still test cars that same way today. The only thing possibly outdated was maybe some of the aesthetics of the ride (paint jobs, old video)- they could have easily spruced that up and still keep it the way it was. The new one doesn't fit in Future World because it is a make-believe video game to cater to 6 year olds. Future World is about real life practical technologies in innovations, not make believe.
It's the old one, the one most people fell in love with. My brother and his family are in Disney right now and said that the new one, while good, just doesn't feel the same. Imagine a TRON theme, without the hot/cold/corrosion chambers, and that's what the new version is like.
I rode this version in March 2003 and the refresh in April 2022. I feel like the old one was more informative and more interesting. Given that Epcot is more of a learning experience, this was better back then.
Janine Frei He is awesome but man he kills me with the weeeeeee. On every ride....The guy that would annoy me if I didn’t know him at a theme park, but the guy I’d have a ball with at a theme park lol
Hahaha I LOVE this mans commentary: Speaker machine: Hey thanks for being such a good test crew Man: Your welcome Speaker Machine: Come back and ride anytime man: We will speaker machine: Bye now Man: bye
As a kid always seemed so awesome. When I finally went on when I was 17 the fast part wasn't as epic as it seemed lol also I had no idea most of it was slowly moving around :(
Going back to Disney world next year and am so excited! I'm upset that they changed the original Test Track when it was awesome, but changes are required of them I'm sure. It will still be fun to be there again none the less!
Am disappointed when I go on this now because as I'm riding it, I can't help but imagine what it was like in the original ride- and all it is now is dark walls and video game graphics.
It's amazing how well they've hidden the test from each other in the the new one. In this one, you could see what was coming up next. In the new one, everything looks so much more spread out!
I made a car out of a 67 impala, back when you chose from existing gm models rather than wind tunnel. I gave it the jet engine spoiler, purple paint with flames, and police lights. The car ended up scoring 202 overall and beat my brothers car by 1 point. I never saved the card, but I still remember the photo of it to this day
The commentary was great! "It's warm! Oh no, now it's cold. I'm gonna get the flu." - "Don't spit on me" - "We never get to go to track course B!" - "It's like being on Rocket Rods that doesn't suck" - "Oh it's dark!" - "I didn't' sign up for a barrier test" - "Cool I've always wanted to be thermal imaged!" - "Let's see how sexy we look. That's not very sexy".
oh my friend....you missed the good old days when Test Track looked more original...now it's all high tech and it takes away from the good experience....
Now that Test Track is getting yet another upgrade, I'm curious to see how Test Track 3.0 will compare to the other 2 versions as well as World of Motion
"We never get to go to track course B" That's because Track Course B is not part of the ride, it is actually a repair and maintenance shop for the ride vehicles.
Honestly I really appreciate the effort Disney has put into keeping all of their rides current. Even though a lot of people say the old version of this is better the technology they used to give a totally new ride experience is impressive. There's only so much they could have done to update this ride given the restrictions of a prebuilt track, so re-theming was really the only option.
It wasn't just the ride itself but the queue and post-show was also better then. I liked the industrial car factory feel of the place. I first rode it in late 2000 as a child and that is the version I'm most nostalgic about. Test Track "2.0" has a boring queue and the post-show area is just more showroom space. The ride itself still holds up but feels flat with a bit too much reliance on screens. I'm not nostalgic about the 2.0 version of the ride but nonetheless I'm thinking of revisiting for one last ride as they're closing the ride down in a few days for an overhaul and we'll see in 6? months if Test Track "3.0" is any good but my hopes aren't really high at the moment.
While the new retheme is not going to be in a crash test setting it will show the advanced technology of cars in nature, which I think is still better than being replaced by some IP based attraction
I still cant belive disney would take this ride out and try to replace it, I was devasted when i came back and they told me they removed it a week ago ;P
For the people who are saying the original felt more realistic and that the new one isn’t fun because it doesn’t feel like your actually testing a car, that’s a fair point, however I feel like the new version was necessary because the whole theme around Epcot is the future and the new one seems more “futuristic”. I also love designing a car and I think kids from new generations will love it as well. I’ve grown up with the original and I loved it, but the new one isn’t the worst thing, I still have the same amount of fun and it’s pretty much the same ride with different theming.
i remeber waiting 3 hours for this when i was 10 and it wasn't that fast but it was interesting to look at all the stuff on the walls. still is a great ride though. oh! and i remember getting stuck on that when i was 7, it was very hot or cold outside(i can't remember) and we either got stuck in the freeze test or the hot test and all i wanted it to do is go to the room that was either hot or cold b/c it was either freezing or burning up
Don't get me wrong; the new one looks awesome and more up to date with the newer car technologies, but it seems less realistic and more science-fiction like. I liked how (for a kid), it felt like I was driving an actual car (and had a taste of what adults might have experienced) rather than a fancy video game version. Plus, I like the industrial "test" aspect over the "future" version. No point complaining, since it'd be a huge waste of money to remove all the updated technology~ ;)
the ride was amazing i whent on it and i had a blast! the part that made me and my best friend scream was the part were it whent pitch black and it looked like the huge truck was ganna crash into us x)

What Rocket Rods should have been...I think. Announcer: Don't forget your personal belongings. Gordon Freeman: Oh, I wont. In fact, I wont forget YOUR personal belongings either. Heheh.
California Adventures is doing something similar to Test Track in that new Radiator Springs addition they added, except instead of Test Track of course it's geared to the Cars theme, just f.y.i. see how nerdy I am lol
