The solidarty in this scene was really touching. Most of the crew have known Topa all her life and it being a small ship the majority probably consider her family. Mercer and Greyson may have been the only ones to get an official dressing down but every one of them were risking either their carrers or at the very least being transferred to other ships.
I think it really made Bortus' singing that much more special having him first perform for us as a way to distract the entire crew to do something for the sake of his daughter, incredibly touching Then they have him as elvis in the final ep and it comes off just a joke rather than the heartfelt moving bortus we got earlier in the series
Elvis bit was a return to tradition for the Orville, a nod to its first season - which is fitting, the S3 finale was split between the drama (S3 E9) and the wholesome slice of life (S3 E10).
I see why Isaac choose Bortus. He's an orderly guy who keeps things on schedule and no other nuance to his actions. Even a AI can understand that train of thought.
I started watching the orville cause it looked like a funny show but I got hooked when they started tackling serious issues about personal identities and body issues and not just about gender identity but illness, personality and psychological issues, relationship issues and trust.
Waaaaaaay better show than it could have been. Very heavy ideas and concepts. Bravo to the writers and cast for tackling it and they really achieved something here.
This song rips my heart out, but also gives it life realizing it's made to give a tortured soul freedom. It makes me so proud of Bortus, Isaac, Kelly, Ed, and all to give a Trapped life like Topa the Freedom that she begged for. Also fuck did Bortus kill his part as key Singer.
Bortus is such a perfectionist and likes things orderly and precise. I also think Issac just gave Topa a sex change operation while the crew was distracted?
@@DMBmusicfan1 Addung to this, Moclans as a society absolute DESPISE the female gender, and basically turn any born females (a rare, but not uncommon occurance) to male at every chance they get. Topa, born female and forced to be Male her whole life, discovered she was transgender during S3 E5 and decided she wanted to reverse the operation. Due to Moclans being the Unions primary weapon supplier, the Union had to painfully tell the Orville not to perform the operation, regardless of personal feelings from every level of non-moclan administration involved. So they came up with the idea to distract the whole crew with Bortus' singing (he was in on it BTW), and have Isaac, a Kaylon and therefore non-union member of the crew, perform the operation as a legal loophole. Of course, this didn't stop Ed and Mercer getting their asses handed to them by a brutal dressing down by one of the admins afterwards.
