"It must be another Tube Screamer Clone because it's green" No, no, no no. A green color does not always indicate a tubescreamer clone. The Nobels ODR-1 has long been one of my favorite op amp overdrive circuits, and it's nothing like a ts9, ts808, or any other type of tubescreamer type circuit. It's quite original, dare I say "transparent" as a drive pedal, and has a nice, full body yet stays crunchy and crispy in milk. We've had a lot of folks ask us to come out with our take on this particular circuit, and the Wampler Belle is that particular take: www.wamplerpedals.com/products/distortion-overdrive/belle/
@@leighsaunders3278 The mini have the same DNA - a little bit tighter and less bass than the big brother. Kind regards from the Nobels team - www.Nobels.com
" yet stays crunchy and crispy in milk. " That's good, because i usually play with my chain embedded in a warm milk mix with my morning oatmeal. Thanks for thinking of us warm milk people :-)
There needs to be an entire video with the spectrum analyzer kicked in with all the major OD's - TS, Klon, Zen, ODR1, BB, etc. Would be fun to nerd out on
I also found the spectrum analyzer to be very helpful in understanding that there are, in fact, differences between pedals and it's not entirely marketing and hype. Thanks, Mr. Wampler!
Same here…I have more than 50 overdrives(including original Nobels and the new mini version)and The Belle is just fantastic!!!!Killer tones into my Hot Rod Deluxe 4 alone or stacking with other pedals!!! Awesome switch side which I particularly keep it on all the time!!!Brian is a genius!!!
I bought the ODR-1 mini pedal first, and found that with humbuckers it would get that bottom end boom. Works great with single coils and P-90's. Ended buying the newest ODR-1 with the bass cut switch, and it is fantastic with humbuckers!
This pedal is .... amazing. I have a Supro Blues King 12 amp that has gorgeous cleans, very boomy and throaty, but I never bonded with the gain on it. The gain is a fuzz circuit. Every time I wanted some gain it would be too much swampy fuzz, too much throat, for my tastes at least. I've tried to pair my BK12 with a tube screamer and it still ended up being so damn muddy and this video explains exactly why. I was almost at a point of either replacing the speaker in the BK12 or selling it. This pedal allows me to completely replace the amp's dirt and the sound is glorious. The gain on this pedal is a beautiful 'crisp' and it's not an 'in your face' gain. It's simply glorious. I'm able to retain the boomy and throaty voicing of the BK12 and supplement it with the gain and tone of this pedal and the amp now sounds incredible. Thanks Brian for your passion and hard work.
I don't get it why people refer to informative content (even yourself) as "Nerd talk"! I really like the way you display your products and especially how you describe them. Science is not something to be afraid of...
Make the Belle Overdrive Deluxe. One side being the Belle (ODR-1 with some bells and whistles), and the other side of pedal is either the Tumnus Deluxe, Pantheon, or an Ibanez Mostortion clone, or an Xotic RC Booster clone... I love Wampler pedals and both of my pedalboards are comprised of mostly Wampler pedals.
The best thing about Brian, beside having awesome pedals, he isn't afraid to demo other pedals and comment on them. Amazingly, most of his comments on other brand pedals are good. He isn't afraid of competition and thrives on it.....
Learnt about the ODR1 from you, been after one ever since. Now I need yours aswell! Awesome demonstration and description as always. Red pill for life!
I had a Nobels Distortion plus special, used it on one recording. Regret letting it go. It had a cool noise gate. It did have a unique tone to it. I like their line booster that has a remote control. Which I think would be cool to add a post boost to any amp. Plus it has some eq too.
@Brian I bought this a few weeks ago and it by far has become my favorite overdrive pedal. So much gain on tap and the Bass and Color controls kick ass! But I also use it as a clean boost and "colorizer" when I'm playing acoustic or my Taylor T5z. It's just an amazing pedal!
I just got my Belle, and it richly deserves the huge praise it’s getting. A perfect match with my mini-Ego compressor. The Belle is the “just a little hair’” pedal, while the Keeley SuperPhat+ handles the main (Classic) Rock tone, and the Friedman Dirty Shirley brings the big guns. They all stack beautifully. Love the Belle!
David, give Brian & Brent Mason's Hot Wired 2 a shot! Feeling like that pedal is a bit underrated, and running the Hotwired 2 in front of the Belle is tough to beat. The compression switch and bass control on the Belle combined with a dry mix on the Hotwired's right channel, plexi-ish drive on the left and 3 way switches on both sides *should* give you whatever you're hoping to hear. In theory. I'm running with it.
The characteristic you mention about the Nobels ODR-1 is the reason why I took it off my board... The boomy low-end, yes... Even with the updated version with the bass-cut switch. Your Belle seems to remedy that perfectly. Can't wait to try it out! By the way, I LOVE your Sovereign (v2) pedal and currently have it in my gigging pedalboard... How would you compare the Belle to it?
Thanks! The Belle is way way different than the sovereign. Sort of like comparing beef to chicken. The Belle, being op amp / clipping diode based will have a tighter feel to it, not as much "give". It's a bit stiffer, where the sovereign can be more bouncy - almost too bouncy depending on what a person is going for.
@@wampler_pedals Sounds great and solves that bass hump - which doesn't look like much on the spectrum analyser, but adds up for us bedroom players :( I sold my ODR-1 Mini because of this.
@MorGuitarz - I recently picked up a used Roadhouse Strat in which the previous owner had installed the EMG DG20 SA pickup set. The top tone knob is "EXG" which is an equalizer circuit that functions in the same manner as the ODR-1's Spectrum knob. Without thinking about it, as soon as I got it I plugged it into my pedal board and hit an E chord. The EXG was set around 7, and I forget where I had the ODR's Spectrum was set, but that E chord caused me to nickname my 2x12 with Heritage H30 55hz/75hz combo "JL", because all I heard was the sonic equivalent of John Lee Hooker's "Boom Boom"! LOL
The newer model ODR-1 has a bass cut dip switch on the inside. I think this definitely helps with reducing the boominess you mentioned. Can't wait to try the Belle.
Belle? 🤔 that's a Jewel of a pedal 💎Yes Sir! I'll have one! Thankyou Kindly🤠.👍😁👌👏🖖. (Sometimes when i'm navigating the pedal universe, it becomes so overwhelming i'll drift off course. So i'll set course for a particular bright shining star. The name of that Star is Brian Wampler. He always helps. Thankyou Brian Wampler, good on you. GOOD ON YOU ALWAYS!
I had a nobles ODR -1 and your Dual fusion at the same time. The natural setting on the Dual fusion was literally indiscernible to the ODR-1. The thought never crossed my mind that it was based of that.
well I hate to say this but this Belle pedal sounds better than my beloved ODR mini :( but I wont buy it until it's on amazon, i think for now this is a exclusive deal with Sweetwater.
love the EQ flexibility, but the Belle doesn't seem to have that low mid growl coming as quick in the attack. The attack of the ODR sounds compressed, its just immediate- Belle looks very useful and sounds great
This! All the added features makes it super versatile for all sorts of music genres. And yes even high gain! It pretty much has all unique 3-band EQ on the ODR-C now! Support the orignal maker IMHO!
I love this stuff! More please! I'd love to see the pink noise spectrum through a Klon (and a Tumnus), a Blues Breaker pedal (and a Pantheon), etc. And you could basically do the same thing for some classic amps: Reverb Deluxe Blackface, Tweed Deluxe, JTM 45, Plexi. Oh man there's so much you could do. You could even show how you could change things up with an EQ pedal. Thanks again!
One thing that's really missing is info for guys running high gain amp on what a odr style drive can do for juicing a amp. We all know a klon type and a ts type work well, but what about an odr type?
@The Tired Horizon yeah, I don’t disagree. But, for this one you don’t have to take off the base plate: the battery compartment is under the label on the top of the pedal, and that’s where the switch is. It’s actually a large dip switch, so it’s easy to toggle. Not as good as putting it on the surface, but it’s the next best thing. You don’t even have to move the battery (if there’s one in there).
Brian, keep the engineering and physics in these videos. It makes them unique! Plus, in my experience there are plenty of guitar players that like these subjects, maybe study(ied) them in school and maybe even work in them (like me).
Nice. I need to check out your pedal. The longest term pedal on my board isn an old Reverend Drivetrain II. I use it with the bass and treble full up. It's a Tubescreamer type circuit but doing this actually makes the response more like that of the Nobles, which I've had a short while. I ran the signal into a spectrum analyzer (actually an FFT analyzer I use for high end speaker design - sort of overkill) and they were fairly similar. I like your additional features. Thanks for sharing a pedal you like, both the original and your take.
Cool, a space-saving excellent overdrive without the weaknesses of the ODR- 1. It would be interesting to hear the Belle versus the Timmy V3. (:-) Thanks for the great video! After tests: The Belle is way better and clearer then the Timmy V3. The Belle is now on my pedalboard. Excellent pedal from Brian Wampler. I recommend it to every guitarist.
I tried the ODR1 on a Hot Rod Deluxe, a Boogie Fillmore, a Quilter Mach 3, a Quilter 101 and a Blackstar Artist 15…. all great amps. I could never make it sound good. Just too damned fizzy on the low end. Maybe that was the point of it? I’ll give yours a shot. I like what I hear! Oh, and I play a lot of country!
@@wampler_pedals thanks… all were combos. The Mesa is a Celestion custom 90, the Blackstar is a Celestion V Type (whatever that means), The hot Rod has a Eminence Allesandro (great speaker BTW) and the Quilter has a Celestion copper back…. I may have also tried it in conjunction with a Celestion gold back in a Mojotone Lite cab. I think in the end, maybe that pedal just wasn’t my thing.
I just recently bought an ODR-1 Mini and was a little disappointed. It sounded good but it’s SOO bass heavy. I might have to check out your version to see if it’s more usable.
Just ordered one today as after watching the Pete Thorn, Bret Papa, Sweetwater, and this video. Excited to add to the rig. I currently have a Keeley Phat Mod and Analogman POT, so anxious to see where this one fits in the mix
I’ll admit, I never tried the ODR1 because I thought it was another TS clone. Looks like I had no idea what I was missing. The Belle OD sounds killer. How does it stack with the Euphoria?
I sell my blood plasma, make my kids mow the neighbors yards, and siphon gas in the middle of the night. Just kidding, I can't stand the sight of needles.
Awesome sounding pedal!! I’ve always wanted to try an ODR-1 but for whatever reason never have. I’ve assumed that the mini sounds the same as the regular?? Killer pedal👍🏻
Does de ODR-1, as well as Belle, work well with a TS (before or after) when stacking them? Can it be a good combination in a pedalboard for blues, blues-rock, maybe some hard rock? tks
Seems more like a Klon than a Tube screamer. But also... It's clearly got its own thing. I pretty much use a fuzz face for everything. Having a rotary switch for input caps helps. I've got 300hz filter option that's pretty useless for me but it seemed like a good idea at the time.
Awesome Demo! and Love the Whitfills Tele and Humbucker Whitfull too! Both guitars sound killer. Love the flexibility you added in the Belle. Sounds superb sir!
My Wampler Belle is my always on pedal. It's like my amp with the guitar vol knob at 8, crank it for some unobtrusive rhythm grit. If I need more gain, I step on my Ge Tumnus or Ge Fuzz Face for a more late 60s vibe. My settings: Bass - 12 o'clock / Color - 1 o'clock / Level - 12 o'clock / Gain 11 o'clock. Guitar type - Fender Broadcaster. Amp type - Fender 6G2 Brownface Princeton.
I just started playing guitar (I'm a drummer who decided to learn bass not too long ago) and this and the BD-2 are without a doubt my favourite overdrives
I dunno it seems like it has more options for working with humbuckers. The original is very "thicken your single coils and make your humbuckers squashy" this one seems to be a bit better. Even if it is more expensive than the current reissue of the original. So if you like the original you can at least still get it.
Thanks again Brian for an incredible pedal. I do have a problem though, should I remove my my Plimsoul or Soul food or both off the board. It seems the Bell can take both of their places.
Love the spectrum analyzer! Would be cool to see that most "transparent" of pedals the Timmy run thru it (and the mxr mini Timmy for comparison). The Belle seems really versatile, would love to see you stack it with your new plexi drive mini!
Pretty Much Everyone Who Demos These Uses A Single Coil Equipped Guitar . It Would Sure Be Nice & Thoughtful If They Demoed One Using A Humbucker Equipped Guitar And Also Not Just Do Lead Patterns But Include What Power Type Chords Sounds Like Through It .
I have the ODR-1 running into a Tumnus deluxe running into the King of Tone into my faithful Dr Z Z-28.. I love the ODR-1, it fits nicely with everything. I use the Tumnus to shape the tone a little. Love the Belle, can't wait to try it out myself.
Your videos are very interesting! Where did you get this "analyser " plugin please!?!? That could be so useful for me to record myself and sit in the mix without spending hours listening and setting eqs...
I am so getting this pedal. I have an ODR and have never been able to use it with the rest of my gear cuz its too boomy for rhythm guitar Thanks Brian for solving that problem.
@@nobelsofficial5766 yes I have. Or at least I know it exists. But they are hard to get where I live( Montreal) . I'm keepin the one I have cuz I use it in the studion a lot when I have time to dial in the tone I want. For live gigs, the Belle seems to offer a versatile option. Cheers
WAMPLER, you better watch RJ Ronquillo A/B/C the moxie, New Noble pedal and the Vintage Noble pedal on how different they sound in the midrange frequency bumps as well as how different they sound from using a strat, telecaster, humbuckers. I'm not sure why all 3 sound different when using a strat, telecaster, humbuckers because its the same circuit design maybe the components parts are different or the board layout capacitance adds to the tone. It would be nice if the moxie had a switch so when you're using a strat it revoices the pedal for the strat and when using a telecaster it revoices for the pedal for the telecaster, when using a les paul humbuckers it revoices the pedal for humbuckers. RJ Ronquillo mentions that the humbuckers sound good with the moxie noble pedal while his telecaster sounds better using the vintage noble pedal.
