Mark! You really outdid yourself on this one. I don't know what is more incredible, the fact it's so simple and easy, or that I have never heard it, or anything similar before.

This!!!!! I can’t tell you how stoked I am to get this information. I have been struggling to the point of throwing the god damn towel in. I’ve been struggling with the frustration of no matter what I try I never get that eureka moment. I think this could be it! 🙏🏻 thanks Mark. 👍🏽

OMG this is why you are my favorite RU-vid golf coach. I've been struggling with the over the top swing and have tried everything I've seen on RU-vid but this might just be the solution as is makes so much sense! Will let you know how I get on with this in mind.

Best thing I ever did was shorten my backswing a bit. Helped me realize I wasn’t turning through enough. Started even doing half backswings and focusing on the turn and the finish. Good stuff

Beautiful Mark. Thank you! I was literally working on my pelvis tilt today at the range and had no idea WHY I was losing control when I didn't have that "tilt" and more arch in my back. Talk about perfect timing for a video! Worth a sub for sure.

@zachwilliams4453
@zachwilliams4453 11 месяцев назад
The feel that has really helped me with this is "Start on the same arc you came back on" ... my over the top tends to come from me "feeling" as if I'm trying to go from backswing to the ball in a straight line (creating a situation where I drastically move everything from right of target to left after hitting the ball causing a slice). This drill really puts it into perspective where the pelvis is leading that feel! Thanks for the drill Mark.

Great lesson Mark. I look forward to working on this. At the beginning of the year I was hitting all my clubs so well. Then about 6 weeks ago I started shanking short irons. Then all of a sudden I lost 30-40 yards on irons...but the ball was going crazy high. Looking at divot patterns I am severly out to in and I'm having trouble sorting that out. Thanx for the video.

I've been doing a similar drill, but adding in a kind of left leg stamp as I'm finishing the backswing. It's a bit like your drill where you lift the left foot and put it down again. So my drill covers a full ribcage turn (which was a big issue for me), the downward movement (crouch) which shallows the path and lowers the hands, and also the early move into the left side. It's wonderful!

4:14 wow just what I’m working on with my lessons. In one lesson I went from -13 to +3 swing path just with him saying to me to feel like my club is scrapping down a wall behind me. Obs I was doing the wall drill with an alignment stick. Very good thanks mark 👍

So this fault for me has been giving me the Tom Hanks! No bend in the hips at setup, right hip flying forward in the down swing, in turn throwing the hands way in front and coming down steep and across. Been able to play some ok golf with some thoughts that basically get me into a decent position at impact. But actually understanding the fault and having it resolved at setup is going to be a game changer for me! Do you still do one to one lessons?

I've never seen this concept explained so simply. Just turn into your backswing, bend the way you're facing, then start downswing. I did a search for similar wording on the web and found nothing. This is a very easy thought to take to my practice.

Best video yet! I struggle so hard with an over the top driver swing. I was doing something similar to this on the range today and getting some good results, but wasn’t really sure what I was doing differently. This video has validated what I was doing and explains exactly what I was struggling to put my finger on earlier!

Question on RH golf swing and the inside of right arm to face forward...I have found this facing forward leads to pulls as my right arm naturally turns inward at impact, if I setup inward I don't seem to pull or have tendency to feel over the top... can you cover this subject please and help with correct delivery?

Really what your showing here is allowing the club to drop down (not back) before rotation. Justin Rose, Ernie Els both talk about this.

Heard you talk a lot about adding more tilt in the past but it has always been shank city for me when I’ve tried it. Maybe I am already tilted and adding more is too much?

Interesting. As a beginner, I naturally always draw my irons, so I guess I'm doing it right. My woods on the other hand slice horribly, so I gotta fix that.

Golf is a funny game. I came into a lesson swinging the opposite to this student. 7-11 degrees from the inside. Instructor said, "try swinging over the top." Path went to 2-3 from the inside. Baby draws. Feel vs Real.

Hovland, Scottie, etc have over the top swing paths. They do shallow it but they follow an over the top path with their hands.

The human body is a wonderful reactive machine. For me and my swing I do slightly disagree with Mark, and I emphasise this relates to my swing not necessarily someone else's, in order to allow my lower body to rotate properly, in transition I need to have the feeling of the club grip moving more out than down thereby giving myself room to rotate. But that is because I have a history of coming to far from the inside (typically 8-10 degrees from inside) which started because I had to much slide in my swing. Once I have the feeling of the club being sufficiently far away from the body in transition, rotating happens pretty naturally

I saw two coaches in the 20 years 2000-2020 and both put me off ever seeing any more coaches. They were both pushing the hand/club drop at the top of the backswing and to me as a scientific thinker it was just wrong. I didn't know what was right but I knew this wasn't the solution. It was trying fix a symptom not the disease. More recently I had some lessons with a coach and all he concentrated on was grip and takeaway. He said if the grip, stance and first 12 inches of the takeaway were correct I had enough coordination to get back to the ball in the right place. He was right.
@barking_mad6649
@barking_mad6649 11 месяцев назад
Mark has taught dropping the club behind you at the top of the swing, and allowing it to fall. I tried this and to be fair it worked, but I could sense it was way too much manipulation. This drill is much better in my opinion. I'd agree to an extent about the takeaway, but at the end of the day if tour first move is for the hands or trail shoulder to come forward at the top of the swing, then you're always going to be OTT. As I am 😂

OMG this is my bad swing the hips feel like they collapse as I force the power. My fix is turn back with tilt then my only swing thought is feel the lead shoulder to drive down first and under me.

This usually happens when you keep posture and start to turn with your hips first then letting the arms move down still in posture. Result shallow plane.

If only I could find a coach that could articulate movements that make sense rather than going through the motions and just providing general movements that make no sense to the student other than confusing them.

i'm looking at mark's legs. the legs initiate the actual bending the hips, pelvis, etc seems to follow the feet / legs, eh?
@barking_mad6649
@barking_mad6649 11 месяцев назад
The first move should be a shift in pressure as the body re centres before the top of the swing is reached, followed by this movement. If you do this without shifting pressure you'll just crunch backwards and your low point will cause fats.

You can play with that kind of swing, and I've done it for years, but good luck hitting high draws. It's a fade-type point and shoot swing.
@barking_mad6649
@barking_mad6649 11 месяцев назад
I tried this but unfortunately it didn't work for me, probably because it gave me no feel for where the club head was supposed to go. The drill that did work was to take the club to the top of the backswing then feel like the head was running away and down a wall placed behind me. Doing that slowly at first got the club back on plane. Obviously I turn with it too, but that's not the feeling, the turn just happens. Over the top is no more.
