You all may laugh at me but in 1997 I bought a London Fog long black trench or over coat. Came with a liner also came with 2 belts. The belts are the same. It is now 2019 January and I still have this coat and the original belt still looks almost new. The coat looks brand new. I clean this coat in the spring fold it and put it away for 4 months and then hang it up again in the fall. I have enjoyed this coat and today when I ware it it is nice comment after comment on how nice it is. I just love to ware this coat. One of my Best Buy’s for the number of years I have owned it.
I am from California, and in that brief time that we have winter weather (yes, we get winter weather) I like to have not just my winter coat, but it’s nice to have interchangeable cold-weather layers so I’m not wearing the same coat over everything for the season. I love jackets!!!
Thanks for the shoutout to the ladies at the end there, Carl! Love your videos! This was very helpful as I am in the Market for a topcoat. I’ve learned so much about clothing/boots from you and have been able to make such well informed purchases! Recently, picked up some pieces from Taylor Stitch and I discovered the brand through you. The boots are great and I’m looking forward to their ojai jacket in wool and some cotton hemp tees too. Keep up the awesome content! Thanks!

Carl I have about 30 pieces of outer wear. I'm obsessed.I have an all wool, grey, black and burgundy, glen plaid, London Fog overcoat. Bought for me back in 1986 by my Pop Pop. I've been getting complements on this coat for 32 years. Made in America. Forget about it. It has a matching belt that just takes the coat to that classic level. They don't make em like that anymore. Black satin lining has been repaired once. Thanks Pop Pop.
I'm w you man, coats are my favorite big ticket items after watches and shoes and agreed on vintage and thrift, pennies on the dollar man, I just picked up another two , one from a store that was big in NE back in the day, Kennedy's, a 1960 black all cashmere (old cash. Is almost always better than new mod cashmere ), chesterfield w a velvet collar, another is a tweedy "showerpoof" wool Mac style from now sadly gone Dunn and Co , made in Britain, think fuddy duddy older gent British/UK country coat, score on average down 4 to 12 bucks per coat while thrifting and have found great high end pieces for next to nothing , also w vintage you get full traditional lengths which I prefer, ie to past knee to about mid shin , that's the point of some of these coats, protect from elements and longer tends to execute on that more effectively I was on a bit of a traditional trench kick this fall , my friends keep calling me inspector gadget haha Btw your drone footage is stellar
Haha thanks man! Thrifting is fun because you never know what might be lurking in the racks, and there may be some real gems! I’m a big fan of thrifting regularly, especially in affluent areas where they don’t think twice about clearing out their closet!
I personally like workman's coats or half dusters. I have a couple of oil skins where I can wear sweaters underneath and I have another that's just canvas where I can wear a jacket. All of them I can roll up and pack it in a Nike drawstring gym bag.
Fur lined spread collar bombers, Denim trucker Sherpas and "Marlboro" (Lambskin or suede shell in light brown, button - up, fur collar and lining) would be my choice in winter. Naturally it's not that cold here in Mexico and particularly in my city, if it's really bad, it can go down to like 5 degrees. (And that's really extreme, usually the coldest peaks are around 40-50 fahrenheit) In that 40 degree range, i can wear a random wool coat, a heavier nylon bomber with a heated interior with a scarf and beanie, or simply a properly lined cowhide leather jacket with a flannel underneath. Suede is what i have found to be rather cold in this temperatures. Greetings, Mr. Murawski, take care.
Love your channel man! Great information, lots of great products, and awesome vibe! I live in upstate NY and the way the temps have been... no doubt you picked a good week to upload this one!
Thanks man! I’m currently in Sullivan county NY for the day and you’re not kidding! I think my beard froze this morning, would that be considered a beardcicle? Anyhow, thanks for the kind words and feel free to let me know anything you’d like to see in the future!
Thanks man, it helps to adopt the mindset of buying less but better. So think of a good coat like an investment that will serve you for years longer than an inferior one. For example I’m sure you spend good money on work boots, and you’ve learned that cheap ones just aren’t worth the hassle. It’s the same kind of thing.
Carl Murawski yeah I spend good money on Klein tools and Red Wing boots. Definitely need to up my game on style! The wife tends to spend most of our money on keeping our two daughters in style more then me🤣
Nothing wrong with that! I'm actually going to be selling a ton of stuff I've reviewed for cheap. I'll be making a video about it, but it may be a good chance to pick up something for a huge discount.
G Fox was meant to rival the fanciest NY stores. When we went there in late 50s 60s we dressed up! Recently I met a tailor who worked there then and he agreed. We bought our made in England Duffle coats there
And I thought I had many coats... EXCELLENT collection man! You’re right about the Parka because I just bought a long coat Parka with this New England weather. Great video my friend.
Awesome coar waredobre! I don't know if I really wished that it got "fur parka" cold here in Brazil, but damn if didn't want to be able to wear overcoats more than 3 times a year. I'm going to New York in march so I'll problaby be able to bust out my peacoat and BEUATIFUL DB overcoat and get crazy with layers. I can't wait to meet Dan and the guys and if you're in town (around the 27th), it be an honor to meet you too. All the best and keep the videos coming, it's a way so satiate my menswear hunger! (also, I'd encourage you to check, if you haven't already, a company called Anglo-Italian. They're based in the UK and started from two guys that used to be part of the Armoury team. I think you'll love their aesthetic and style aproach.)
I’ll certainly check them out, thanks for the tip! If you’re in NYC please let me know and I’ll do my best to meet up with you, it would be a joy to connect!
Could you do a video maybe about 100 percent wool coats cause all the ones I find are lined with something which defeats the purpose of wool all together. I mostly just wear wool sweaters and love them, but I'd like to find some nice coat options too.
And could you do a video on shoe brands worth their prices on the long haul (I'm thinking Allen Edmonds, Alden, Saint Crispins, G. Cleverly and so on)? Maybe I'll be able to invest in a good quality pair that'll make me go when I'm on my 30s "damn if these don't look nice!".
I think that’s an excellent idea! Of course I don’t own one of each high end brand, but I can certainly speak to the ones I’ve owned personally. You’re wise to research investment-quality shoes, you may very well have them the rest of your life if treated properly!
Lol, that seems to be the feeling amongst a lot of people about Barbour. It's become a fashion statement rather than workwear, but then again we have brands like Carhartt with their Work In Progress line which is much more fashion based at 4x the price. I have two excellent Carhartt coats that made it through years of construction work with ease, but they're not what I'd wear to dinner with the wife (unless that dinner was on top of scaffolding!). Thanks for the sub!
Great video! Very informative! I just purchased a camel car overcoat from Banana because it was on sale. Waiting for it to come in the mail tomorrow. Ordered small and medium as I'm not sure which one will fit best.
I’ll tell ya, BR has some EXCELLENT coats and you were wise to wait for a sale. I know the Banana Republic overcoat was A top pick on Dappered.com recently so I’m sure you’ll be a happy (and warm) customer.
New England Style Consulting I got the coats yesterday and returned the medium as the small fit me perfect! The coat is fantastic! And at only $126, I am extremely happy with my purchase!
Hey, wait a second. My old Cinque wool overcoat works well into -5F. Your Canadian fans have no issues ripping up the winter in a colourful Crombie. 👊🏿🧔🏾
Your gripe about sleeves to the center of your palm suggests a new tack in coats on your horizon. That length is dictated for CAR coats! When your hands are on the wheel the sleeves should fall back to reveal your cufflinks. Now you have an excuse for more closet space from the wife!

I’m not sure I understand what you mean. An overcoat is meant to go over your clothing you’d wear indoors, like a suit. It’s not meant to go over another piece of outerwear, I may have been unclear on this point.
