I'm from Czechia and this is the first time I am hearing about the censorship. From what i know the show aired perfectly fine and it's also on Disney+.
Bro, you’re from Czechia!? Well, I’m from Slovak!!! Nikdy som nepozral český dabing Owl Housu, takže som zvedavý ako to išlo s postavou Raine, alebo ako tým postavám pomenili hlasy :D
@@Marzbar90 In the czech dub, there is nothing censored exept one thing, Raine is reffered to as "he", bc our language simply doesn't have singular "they". It's not ideal, but it's understandable. Altough it's a completely different story when talking about for example Taiwan, which tried to censor the queer stuff.
I live in Ghana and the WEIRDEST thing is that before I moved i was in the US, over in the Us, I didn’t experience any censorship but in Ghana, they will just not air an episode with heavy LGBTQ+ rep It would even take them 6 MONTHS! to air a new episode (also we don’t have disney+*rip*)
11:50 This is actually a somewhat common thing that yes, it is a romantic gesture of some sort. It's usually seen in TV shows where they can't explicitly show two characters are married for whatever reason, like in She-Ra and the Princess of Power (2018), but here it probably is just a romantic gesture instead.
I love seeing all the behind the scenes and cut content, it really feels like a proper peek behind the curtain at the creative process for these fantastic shows.
Ya at least they did and didn't act like they weren't like other cortoon makers who just say that it isn't appropriate for this network and decided to take the cortoon off the air
So Dana first pitched the idea to Nickelodeon and CN before Disney embraced it, huh? Interesting background. We seriously need a full documentary on Disney+ that explains the making of this show. Love how you've managed to piece this all together in a single video. Great job @Toonatic 😁👍
Great video. As someone living in Russia (not that it was my choice), I really regret that we stopped showing the owl house after the first season. Our dubbing was very good. As a result, I had to watch in a pirate voice acting, which did not particularly suit me. as a result, I had to improve my English in order to watch the cartoon in the original. I'm sorry that my country reacts so harshly to all LGBT content. Sorry if my English is not very good.
Dude, I'm from Mexico and is the first time I here about La Lechuza 😶I just learn someting new today Also thanks for collecting all the designs and concept art, I love seeing the process of the animated series.
30:59 Yeah, this is and will always be my main pet-peeve with the shortening. Hunter is a very interesting character, basicly the second main, who was denied the main-part off his story.
I wasnt in the fandom or anything, but I really enjoyed this show. It was the first thing I'd watched since lockdown happened and my depression really killed any vibes around fandom culture. I really hope they get a chance to explore The Collector more, as they were my favorite character in season 3 and I just got the vibe that there was more to them than we saw on screen. Thanks for this video! Again, as someone not in the fandom- this was invaluable to me
When Dana mentions how Evelyn Clawthorne entered Earth, it reminds me the narration in El Laberinto del Fauno (Pan's Labyrinth) where a princess from the underground world is fascinated by Earth and decides to go there, just like Evelyn.
I like how you just said "I have to point out how Luz went from being a upbeat naive ray of sunshine to a Depressed sleep deprived Teen with trauma." Sadly that's what happens to you if you stay in the boiling isles for too long, or you just go through life- I've learned that from experience heh-
in norway despite how gay marriage and stuff is legal they censored the scenes where luz and amity call each other girlfriends with saying they're best friends and I really hate that
In my launage Raine uses he/him pronouns :'( Also Polish is a pretty gendered launage so you can hear it often What saddens me is that they didn't even try to use the genderless pronouns which while not being official can be used as I have read books where the translators managed to do it But at least they kept the kiss scene Still the pronouns and name changes (Raine's name (Szeptucha) sounds like something a baba-jaga would be called) hurt me so much that I only watch toh in English and Spanish
actually, I've been not wondering for a while, what are the best nonbinary pronouns to use in Polish? I speak Polish like half of the time so it would be nice to know ho to refer to people XD
What an amazing video! I should look more into the beta designs of these characters for inspiration. Also, I'd love if we got a special episdoe about how Caleb and Evalyn met and a graphic novel about the time skip era of the owl house. Maybe even a video game that addresses the hanging plot threads as parts if it's side quests as well but that's asking too much.
I know that the test animation was featured with audio at CTNx 2018 before a special early screening of “Ralph Breaks the Internet.” I was there & saw it alongside a clip of the Domino 2 episode of Amphibia
Whoa, I'm just now learning about the whole Pokemon situation, that's rad! (Especially considering Pokemon feels like it's going a lot closer to potential LGBTQIA+ representation considering the androgynous designs of Legends Arceus, some of the generally accepted vibes of certain Gen 9 trainers, the presence of Toby Fox as a composer with Undertale and Deltarune doing great with representation, and the mysteriously removed third gender option in the Pokedex from trailer footage that could've implied the potential of normally binary Pokemon having a chance to be genderless at some point in development. Considering it's considered the biggest media franchise in the world having even one confirmed gay relationship in a major branch of the franchise would be huge).
God, I wish we'd get a gender neutral option in Pokémon. We already have genderless Pokémon! We should have genderless options for human characters, too.
@@JackHallowLantern Playable characters are TECHNICALLY genderless, but you still get gendered in dialogue, unlike Splatoon and Animal Crossing that do the same "Choose An Appearance" thing but use gender neutral terms for the character afaik.
The voice actor for Hunter, Zeno put Hunter Noceda as roles he has played in his twitter bio shortly after thanks to them aired last October. This officially makes him a Noceda 😊
Hehe, it was very interesting to see something like this about my favorite show! In addition, I finally found out where the beta versions of the characters came from, I couldn't find it anywhere before, thank you)
Weirdly, TOH didn't made it in Hungary , but for some odd reason She-Ra did WITHOUT censoring, yes even the kiss wasn't censored. I don't know about Disney+ tho.
yknow, everyone knows thart the bat queen is a titans palisman. we dont NEED the backstory, it's PRETTY FRICKING OBVIOUS. who else needs a stick that big?
I remember first time watching enchanting grom fright, when it was revealed that Amity wanted to ask out Luz and my dad said something like: is that even legal to show that in Disney show?
Thanks for your video, I love it so much!💖 Sorry for my bad English in next comment, I’ve just wanted to write about my experience with censorship. As someone who lives in Russia, censorship makes me laugh because it makes “illegal” content even more popular. As an example “Heavens Blessing” and the book about two gays in USSR are bestsellers (the second one was bestseller in 2021, before new censorship law). It is scary not to be straight in Russia, but at least all absurd laws makes gay people more close-knit (or maybe it is only my experience) and give some reasons for jokes. I will never forget how I was laughing with some girls in art festival that we are all criminals here. Hehe “bad girls coven”🤭
I relate to Luz and her childhood so much. I had demon obsession, and a cult obsession. I’d circle around my sister and tell her I was doing a ritual. Very classic
personally, I don't think the owl house would've been as good with no cut content or rush factor. don't get me wrong, I'm sad it didn't happen, but we never would have gotten that season 2B tonal shift that brought out that feeling of desperation as everything fell apart. Luz' downward spiral would have been much longer and less sharp, reducing it's impact, all the serious searialized scenes came from the need to rush plot points to tie everything up. it still would've been good, but the fun nonsense episodes would have probably toned everything down, even if it was for character improvement. I felt it continously got more serious the closer to DoU/K's T in my opinion, the plot should run faster at these desperate times, unlike in certain series. (ahem, Avatar TLAB) It wasn't good what disney did, but it may have been better for the show, no matter how much it pains me to say such.
while I disagree on the good for the show as a whole I do agree on the effect it had on season 2 but if we could have had season 3 in full imagine the magic we could have had (maybe giving it the Steven Universe treatment could have been amazing with a movie around the Archivists and the prologue series of episodes around each of the characters and how they are living now)
@@KeyboardTarantula subjectively since I thoroughly enjoyed and related to the end series maybe more than the original (relating too more I mean) since I guess you just weren't in the right mind set for it but it helped me so much to find my own way in life and now instead of doing another year of highschool and probably stabbing myself in the brain I'm doing a traineeship for a job I love so before you say something sucks just remember you might not fit the exact target audience anymore
@@izukumidoriya8600 yeah I get what you mean. it wasn't the message, they got that acrossed. it was the rushed betrayal of character instead of the slow change. at one episode, he went from the happiest boio alive +mild trauma to EXTREMELY EMOTIONAL and depressed and stuff in under an episode. it's also not a good topic for a show that generally didn't have alterior message other than diversity is acceptable. when watching that show, I wanted to see a goofy kid doing silly magic, not get serilaized in the last 5 episodes. I understand your opinion, and anyone is allowed to think what they want, but if something is going to betray it's own ideals for literally NO reason, then it's objectively bad. Im also glad you're doing better, and could find relatability.
@@KeyboardTarantula I don't think this end series was meant to match the show in the first place since we've always seemed to see almost every turn around with the point they meet Steven then see them again later skipping over some hard parts but this series feels like the mental state of someone who has no idea their purpose and it suddenly crashing down around them going from a slope to a cliff (which is shown in the mild trauma to extreme emotional) and the accepting of diversity is even shown in a new way accepting the diverse parts of yourself the messy and the clean with Steven finally facing the difficult parts of all the good that he has accomplished and learning to get through it which was touched on during the fusion episode in the main series (here comes a thought episode) showing a few of his traumas in his head which he seemed to get over but it was hard for him and he had been them bottling up prior to that episode with them surfacing from an event growing into a big problem for his and with all the new revelations coming up in the hospital episode where he talks about his trauma he goes into a mini-rant about each and every thing as they re-surface for him fully after small doubts and fears had popped up I apologies if some of this is confusing or off topic but I kinda suck at writing stuff planned out I just write as my mind follows the train of thought
8:43 I disagree, I would’ve preferred to take her out if S3E2 completely & assume she was crushed from a collapse beneath the Emperor’s Castle in her overcompensating tall robot amongst the morbid Golden Guard masks.
i think im actually tweaking bcs i never known theres third season, ive never been prt of the fandom but i really think im going crazy where yall are getting thisd season?😭
@@toonatic_lunatic thanks, the fact is its prolly the censorship bcs im from czechia and that the most reasonable answer. the first two seasons are there but third nowhere to be seen. thanks(for another time lol) for clearing that up:)
Lmao im from czech republic and i had no idea it was banned here lol. I mean most people watched it (Ehm Ehm very legally) online anyway so its not like the ban did anything
Wait, toh's banned in Czech Republic? I mean I watched it on a (totally legal you guys trust me) pirating site but there was a professional dubbing and all. I never really faced much descrimination for being a gay kid so I thought we were chill.
we have similar cencorship in turkey in turkey netflik dead endia had a lot of lgbt content so they rated it above 18 and the sho is meant for 10 to 16 year olds
23:25 Hey, I don't know if you will react to my comment, but I will write anyway. I like this series like many others, but for me it is strange to see the Russian dubbing and even a little disgusting (but I was Russified) but what am I leading to, I am Ukrainian and after E)(ECUTION Ukrainian military and civilian citizens and the bombing of cities and the blowing up of the dam in Nova Kakhovka, it is unpleasant when you hear anything in Russian. (Thanks for reading)
