Great car, I have a 2011 2.0 diesel, remapped to 220 bhp, average 38 mpg, fantastic to drive, love the roof system, drives like a standard car when the roof is up, unlike a soft-top, no rain noise, and warmer in the winter compared to a soft-top ! This car is a cruiser not an out and out sports car, mine has the six-speed auto, and drives live a conventional car unlike many convertibles !
Hey, Bern! First of your vids I’ve watched and thought it was great! I’ve got a C70 and love it. So often when I think about parting ways with it I can’t think of anything that’s a better all round great car. Will be getting a Polstar tune soon. Thanks for keeping the C70 spirit alive. A future classic??? 🤷
For those wondering about tuning capabilities, the Elevate tune claims gains of 39hp and 53lb/ft of torque. Not entirely worth it to me, cuz it’s $740 LOL
Something I would love to see someone do is add all the Focus RS500 parts to a C70. For the uninitiated, the P1 T5 platform cars share their chassis/engine setup with the European Ford Focus ST/RS’s. The RS500 was a special edition Focus RS with a tuned version of the T5 that put out 350hp, and Elevate sells the full conversion kit with their tune that bumps that up to around 400hp. I’ve seen plenty of C30’s running this setup successfully, but never a C70. That would be absolutely ridiculous in a Grandpa convertible like the C70!
@@ckkrons2338 Elevate sells a Quaife helical limited slip diff for the P1 cars. They’re not cheap at $1k, but if you’re going that route anyways money is likely not a huge concern lol.
My favorite car. I’m on my third one. 😅 I got the elevate tune and upgraded the suspension, intake, exhaust and the downpipe, its wild fun. This is a great review.
In Europe you could also get it with several 5 cylinder diesels. First the 2.4 liter d5 with ~180hp which later got replaced by the d4 with the same torque and about 3hp less. D4 has way better fuel economy though…
That's a nice channel you got right there. How you only have 25k subscribers is a bit puzzling to me, but I'm sure it will go up as long as you keep it up. Cheers from France.
I mean between Toyota and Volvo you can't go wrong with either one they're both really solid and reliable cars though the Volvo might need a bit more attention with maintenance and parts might be a bit more expensive too. In my opinion I think the Volvo looks much better as the 2nd gen Solora looks like a AliExpress SC430.
I think it's better than the solara,I had 2004 c70 blue top,have a 07 C70 hard top,now with all the bells and whistles,love it!! Btw that s"secret"compartment is actually a ski's pass through,it's in all c70 Volvos
@@lukemallory7832on the new c70, the convertible roof is hard top, it's more solid. The body is more rigid. But except that, it's not a big improvement and the T5 version of the old c70 is more fun than the new c70 t5
My C70 D5 2.4 diesel was remapped. Now gives 224hp and about 295lb/ft Pretty quick even with the 5 speed auto. And yes, the seats are very comfortable.
@@BernonCars In Britain, diesels are very common because fuel is expensive (more than £1.50litre now) My mate at work has a 3.0 diesel giving 280bhp it's a beast! And he still gets 35 to the gallon!
About 35 seconds into this video there is a shot of a white Volvo with a rack on top. It looks like the S60, but I'm not sure. Anyone know what exaclty what model it is? Thanks
Loved ur review. First video i actually watched without skipping forward due to lengthy boring talk. Every word u mentioned was actually entertaining. Good vidoe. 👍
you have the high performance sound system as you can see @8:43, there was no better option by default, dynaudio speakers were used in previous models with high performance systems and they were replaced with different hi-q speakers from an unknown manufacturer.
High performance was the mid spec sound system on the facelift and it came with 8 speakers. You could get the Premium audio system which had 12 speakers
Size wise, the Solara looks bigger than this. If Volvo had used the S80 platform it may have competed better. Also, the Solara was offered as a coupe, which is what i'd go for.
Owners past and present - I have a 2008 T5 auto on standard 18 inch wheels that trembles quite noticeably through the floor, seats and steering wheel at all speeds. It’s not really worse under acceleration or braking, it’s just always there both roof up and down. I have replaced and balanced pretty much everything. Is this just scuttle shake? Am I am idiot for questioning something that is standard on this car? It’s worse than my old MGB roadster!
Hahaha it’s a Toyota solara. I’ve literally never made that connection until now and I can’t stop laughing. Damn you. We have ember black on our p2 XC 90. It’s a really good color because it basically changes color depending on light levels and angle of the light . My kids call it root beer, And I’m laughing that this is your partners grandmothers car because yeah.
The secret compartment between the back seats normally contains an emergency cover in case the roof won't close again. Also the door pockets/storage in the front and back lock when you lock the car so you can leave it anywhere with the roof open!
@@BernonCars I got Mk1 C70 and that hole in a back seet is there to put your skis trough. I drove those C70 with manual transmision but it CAN NOT come even close to a Mk1 2.3l T5, it is older but it is much more musculine, roomy, sporty...you name it.
Struggling between this and a 330ci.. volvo is super reliable, 330ci has that sporty feel. I get the impression you weren't overly impressed with the speed/response?
Interesting! I like the 330 because it handles better! But yeah maintenance will be a pain. Yeah in stock form it’s not much of a thrilling driving experience
2010 C70 (restyling) owner here - 2.0 D (2000 cc diesel engine , 136 hp, 6 speed manual). The engine is a PSA (meaning, Ford, Peugeot and Citroen). Very decent and reliable engine. As to the interior, I would have expected more quality for a car that cost 60k new. Anyway, llove the car and the looks, as you don't see too many around nowadays. Cheers from Portugal
@@BernonCars wow! In Portugal there s only 1 or 2 XC90 V8 (not kidding) probably from 2004 ir 2005. The price of gas over here is high and the road tax also... People that want V8s go for Mercs or Bimmers (their loss ahahah)
I picked up a 08 with 120k miles a few months ago and has been a great car for $5000. Need to sort a hall sensor DTC with the top, mechanic suspects a wiring harness break. I also plan to change the coolant hoses that are known to fail and overheat the P1s. Agree it is a great cruiser, hard to use all the power off the line and in corners without a limited slip diff.
Спасибо за обзор, тоже очень нравится управление и динамика. У Вольво получился отличный кабриолет! Кстати в подлокотнике открывается ещё и верхняя крышка.
