They can join or create a new one and even call it the same name but that doesn't automatically mean the old expired contracts roll over and they get to keep their P-5 status. The Playoff Committee is already discussing removing 1 of the auto-bids for the expanded 12 team playoffs because the Pac12 no longer exists as a P-5 conference. I think he is still getting paid a % of their TV contract and for the failing Pac12 Network, for negotiating them, even though they are dumpster fires. Plus the Pac12 is still in debt and owes Comcast $50M because Larry Scott lied about being overpaid and he went on a shopping spree when he blew a bunch of money living like a king in San Fran, in some overpriced building, overpaying himself a ridiculous salary with bonuses for doing nothing, and flying around in his private jet he claimed he needed, while he was the Pac12 Commissioner as he was running it into the ground. I don't know why they allowed him to get away with the things he did, he must of had them all fooled for blindly trusting him to manage their money. Michael Crowe, AZ State's President, was even allowed to rehire Larry Scott as Commissioner. That's why USC wanted to leave the conference because Scott was such a greedy lying scuzbag commissioner.

Oregon State and Washington State should have been the first to jump to the Big12 for their own survival because they had the most to lose if the Pac10 collapsed. The Big12 was offering them membership about 6 months ago when they were trying to break up the Pac12 so they could grab multiple members. Instead of being proactive they sat on their hands and decided to continue riding the coattails of the valuable members but now they don't have anyone to leach off of. I don't know why they would put their trust in the Pac10's dumpster fire Administratiors and their horrible commissioner. The Pac10 couldn't even get a decent TV deal in a year so Oregon State and Washington State should have done what was best for themselves.

Facing weekly departures this summer, the PAC-12 athletic conference is looking to shore up its ranks by inviting the Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry, End of the Bench has learned. Hogwarts, which resides in another realm accessible only by walking into a wall at a certain train station, is considered a Quidditch powerhouse, winning the interstellar multiverse Quidditch championship a record 7 times. Hogwarts Headmaster Albus Dumbledore is thrilled to be joining the PAC-12. “This is the opportunity of a lifetime for Hogwarts to make the leap to big-time Division 1 college athletics,” said Dumbledore. “We’d be fools not to jump at it.” While Hogwarts is widely known for its excellence in Quidditch, Dumbledore said the school has sunk a lot of money into football and basketball and is ready to compete with the four remaining teams - Cal, Stanford, Oregon State, and Washington State. “Let’s face it, the four teams that are left all suck,” said Dumbledore. “With our mastery of witchcraft and wizardry, we’ll be dominating that conference in no time.” The PAC-12 expressly forbids the use of witchcraft and wizardry, as well as the Force and Vulcan mind control, in all athletic pursuits. But as Dumbledore points out, their magic is so subtle and powerful that the other team won’t even know it was used on them. “It’s like when Hermoine cast that Confundus charm on Cormac McLaggen to confuse him and cause him to screw up when he tried out for Keeper for Gryffindor,” Dumbledore said. “We plan to use that and other spells to keep our PAC-12 opponents off balance.”

Your comments concentrated on teams leaving. What you ignored was all of the leadership piss poor decisions that led up to the leaving. That goes back a long way. Not just the commissioner also the presidents and chancellors. Their bad decisions all came down to one thing - Liberal Politics. The refuse to bring in any new schools that had a religious affiliation in their school name… TCU is an example. They also showed that academics were the only thing that was important to them. Cal for example might not even know they have an athletic department. The stadium was always half empty. They should have just dropped sport and be academics only. The only thing that never changes is (wait for it) change. The kids growing up today will always consider these to be The Good Ole Days.

Yup, if the Pac12 was this competitive 5 years ago they could have probably negotiated a better TV contract on regular TV in primetime game slots. Their ratings would have been a lot better and getting teams into the playoffs helps a lot.

Rip pac 12
@vondeebs1906
@vondeebs1906 Год назад
The PAC 12’s demise happened long before the Big 10 took away USC and UCLA. The conference started to spend less on the biggest money sport in football and therefore became way less competitive than the SEC and Big 10 over time. In the end we will be left with an NFL G League essentially with two super conferences in the SEC and Big 10 and everyone else not in those two will have to drop to a lower division

@@Reedjohnmiller I'm not disagreeing but i think these are unprecedented times in athletics, and adding those huge markets is only beneficial. The Pac 12 was stubborn about academics and now they will see their demise, I think execs will see that and learn. But I agree the deal is gonna be hard for ACC to break, I think the only way that happens is if SEC decides they want Clemson and FSU, then Big 10 goes for UNC UVA, the rest of the dominoes would fall after that.

Except they have no TV deal in place beyond next year. That's what started all this mess. Those MWC teams you listed come with a $32 million buyout if they leave before 2025. That's something the Pac 4 is in no position to subsidize and means none of those schools are likely to eat that much of a financial loss to jump ship for that uncertainty.

PAC 12 should become PAC 10 again, and be split into two 5 team divisions of Boise State, CAL, OSU, Washington State and Stanford in the “north” with Nevada, UNLV, New Mexico, San Diego State and Colorado State in the “south”. That leaves the MWC with 5 teams, which they can make Hawaii a full member and have a 6 team conference.

It's been awhile since I paid any attention to college sports, but it just feels entirely wrong a historic conference like Pac 12 could just vanish this quickly. I get that money and some bad decisions by the Pac 12 commissioners are behind it, but it's still sad to see. Whether fans like it or not, money is going to coalesce in the super conferences, which are essentially the NFL"s farm systems. And maybe it's just best to know which schools actually put the student part first in student-athlete. I grew up watching WAC games, then Mountain West, so I've never really watched the elite programs (Colorado State fan here, and they are definitely not elite). But at the same time, the games I went to were often quite fun and totally worth spending Saturday afternoons at the stadiums, or occasionally doing a road trip. College football is going to undergo a lot of changes this decade, that's for sure.
