If an adult sexually abuses a child, that child is scarred for life. Why should a convicted pedophile ever be let out of prison?

“No one would ever dream of talking to a peadophile”. Mate, you’ve probably spoken to hundreds through your life without knowing it.

The police officers who watch those horrific images and videos to keep our children safe will forever have my utmost respect and gratitude. I hope they all receive counselling as standard.

A child CANNOT give sexual consent. Period. It's so painful hearing how they recount the abuse. I can't even begin to understand their pain.

I was abused and almost raped by an older cousin when I was 11... Thank God I escaped before it got worse. My family brushed it off like nothing... I'm 33 now and I can't believe how lucky I was. But shocked that my family still refuses to talk about it. When I have kids their not having sleepovers or going to left alone by NO ONE expect their father. I tell my friend who has a 6 yr old to stop posting so many photos of her child on Facebook. Birthdays and petting zoo photos of your kids once in a while is fine, but my friend posts photos of her child in the bathtub, swimsuits, etc. And I know it's meant to be innocent but a sicko can steal those photos for personal gain... Always keep your eyes open!

I was abused at 5 but only for a very short time because I told my parents. Even though it was such a short period of time I have had a lifetime of not trusting grown men around children. I can’t imagine the effect on children who had to deal with it for years.

I was sexually abused when I was 4 by my brother in law. I will tell you that it was so painful and I cried every time. It is terrible that these men think that that the child can give a consent. They are sick! Sick! Sick!

I can't comprehend how anyone can look at a child and think of something sexual as someone who works with children it's crazy to me

I think he's unbelievably brave to recognize his problem. The biggest problem are those who think their only problem is getting caught. That's why they usually kill the kids their abusing so they're not.

It scares me seeing so many young kids with unrestricted internet access. I remember talking to predators online when I was 11 years old. I was never very popular with boys my age so I when these older men online would show an interest im me, I fell for it. Luckily I never sent images or met up with one but its still messed up. To see all these children using Instagram, snapchat, tiktok, etc. unsupervised is troubling. I hope more parents will become aware of the dangers.

I was about 13 or 14 when I started noticing grown men looking at me in a sexual way. Very widespread problem.

Children are the purest form of innocence they must be protected at all costs by any means

I'm 65 years young and was sexual abused by my on father start at age 3. On both sides of my family was sexual abused by my uncles. Age 12 I start fighting back. My mom knew what was going on and she didn't do anything but mental and emotional abused me. Any who harms a child at any age should be be put away for life. The damage they cause is a life sentence for that children they abused.

Eddie knew he had a problem and he wanted to get help. Great that he spoke up as hard as it was. Hopefully he gets unsolved issues in his life solved with proper treatment.

I have the deepest respect an admiration for Eddie. He is honest an wants help before doing anything to a small child. It's so hard to admit to anything but he's a strong brave guy an I hope an pray he remains strong an true to himself. He must be given help

I was a victim of csa. Despite my experience, I fully agree with the sentiment that we need to understand the issue by studying the paedophiles directly in a scientific setting and work to address the problem as a society instead of using the lynching method. The war on drugs didn't work, the war on crime didn't work and the war on paedophiles isn't working. To the contrary it only drives them further underground and makes them harder to detect.

When I was in first grade, there was a teacher, he would sit very close to kids and would try to touch their body. Sometimes he would make kids sit on his lap or he would just wrap his hands around them and touch their butts and other body parts. One day he sat close to me and wanted to touch me but I immediately slapped him. He was very angry and complained about me to my parents. I told my parents about him and at last he was fired.

Mad respect for Eddie, for seeking help and hoping to help others by doing so. Wouldn’t trust him around my kids, but definitely admire his transparency

If a family member does something wrong, our responsibility is to speak up, speak out, and not to cover up for that person.

My mother was abused by her father she is 55 and still addicted to drugs and has been homeless and addicted my whole life. Breaks my heart

As someone who was abused throughout my childhood I hold great respect for Eddie. He’s recognised his problem. He’s fixing it. He’s showing great amounts of self control and clearly knows right from wrong. I really hope the help he’s sought out for helps him

As a person with PTSD dealing with flashbacks and intrusive thoughts I completely understand and empathize with how confusing and upsetting it is to have thoughts you don't want. Not all impulses are choices. Actions are choices.

Yes! These people need help. But in NO WAY is it acceptable to call it a sexuality!

Confronting such uncomfortable, topics of conversations, is vitality important to protect the most vulnerable in our society.

As a mother this is my absolute worst nightmare. I am so sorry to anyone who went through this, I wish I could hold all of you in my arms and take it all away.

My story isn’t so bad. My cousin who was about 40 at the time, groped me when I was 13/14. We were close growing up. He would take me out to eat or shop when my dad was abusive. I now realize that all our sleepovers were him grooming me. My mom doesn’t believe me to this day. She gets mad when I try to talk to her about it. She says he was being loving in a brotherly way. She tells me to never speak about it to anyone because it would bring unnecessary shame to our family. Well, I tell EVERYBODY.

A beautifully crafted documentary. I learned a lot and it changed my outlook. My heart and soul goes out to survivors and their courage to rebuild their lives. I also feel sorry for Eddie's mum. Thank you for this brilliant and thought-provoking documentary.

I was sexually assaulted by a pedophile. My next door neighbor was doing this to me. I was 8 years old and I remember it like it was yesterday. It was very confusing and I was terrified. He grabbed my hand and had me touch his private parts. I got so scared that I ran away as soon as I was able. Definitely changed my life. I didn’t consent to this and I couldn’t of consented. A child doesn’t know anything sexual in that way and should be protected.

My grandpa who I used to idolize was a pedophile. He sexually assaulted me several times while I was clueless since I was too young and confused. The worst part is that I still remember the moments it happened. I later found out I wasn't the only one, my older sister faced the same thing and she tried her best to keep us away from him and protect us even when she was young herself. I'm glad both of us shared it and cried our heart out at last

idc what anyone says, that man deserves a lot of respect. I personally am not attracted to children and i can say that with certainty, but i do have intrusive thoughts about things that are vile like that. I was abused sexually as a child and i do believe that that's the reason i have these intrusive thoughts. If someone has these thoughts and are attracted to children and DO NOT act on these thoughts and is aware its wrong and wants help, they deserve a chance at a normal life. Im 100% sure that that man hates his thoughts, and when those thoughts come to he feels sick with himself. People who are aware that being sexually attracted children and have thoughts about children in that way is wrong but doesnt act on these thoughts and wants help, deserve a chance at life and should be given help. I will die on that hill.

I feel so lucky to have such a great dad and uncles. Never not once have any of them ever said anything or made me uncomfortable in any way.

There was this man that came into my school and he would teach us about being safe online and stuff like that.The other day he was on the news for grooming and having images of children on his laptop. It's horrible to think that loads of teenagers trusted him and told him their story's.

I've been abused myself. And it destroyed my life. Still I believe that we should research and find a way to "help" people with pedophile tendencies. Being sexually attracted to woman doesn't make you a rapist either. Not every pedophile must necessarily act on their feelings. Not every person without a sexual partner goes out and abuses someone. If we give them the choice of treatment it can only help. I doubt it will increase the problem. so why not try?

If a person admits pedophilia but is commited to not offending, give help. If a person assaults a child, life in prison, no parole. If a person murders a child, death penalty.

Good on you Eddie for realizing the true importance of your feelings and your freedom. You have presence of mind and that certainly is a strong compass for your conscience. I am not a paedophile myself but have had addictions and issues (Who doesn't?) and my good old dad said to me: run away from yourself and your shadow will chase you down. Be free and admit who we are, without involving another innocent person in our problems is my credo. It may not be much, but then again, it may be enough to keep a straight line in life.

There's a different between being a paedophile and being an actual predator, and it's one that most people don't want to acknowledge. Paedophilia is a mental health condition that is not evil to have in and of itself, but refusing to get help and even *worse,* acting on it, is what makes people the real villains.

Many were abused as children. It’s a vicious cycle. As a survivor, I’ve never wanted to abuse a child. It took me years of counseling to have a somewhat normal life. I am over 50 yrs old and can’t sleep in a dark room. Monsters are real. At age 23 due to internal injuries a complete hysterectomy was done. My abuse started at age 2 ? And stopped at age 12.

I'm sorry to say that when it happens in your own home it rarely gets reported or goes to trial. I know from my own experience that both the immediate & extended family will do everything to cover it up & protect the offender. The truth is families are infested with these monsters. Apart from my step father there are another 3 offenders in my family & it all stays hush hush

I'm so late to this video but the whole "we need to understand pedophiles cause that's way more useful (and human cause yes, they are humans!) than just calling them monsters" is so true in my opinion, and that is for nearly any type of crime/criminals. To prevent those things we can't continue to just cancel "bad people" and move on with our life without any changing in education/prevention and stuff.

I was 6 when it all started and it kept going on for 2 years. I was abused by my brother who is 6 years older than me. I didn't know that it wasn't right!! he convinced me that it's just a game that nobody should know about. I blamed myself for many years after that. 16 years later, and I still don't know if I can forgive him. He went on with his life. I keep pretending that nothing has happened, but no one can understand how this can change a child's life forever. now I get ANXIOUS whenever I see him playing with my 5 years old niece. I know that he was a child/teenager too. But I still can't fully trust him being alone around a child. This is the first time that I have ever talked about this openly, and I feel kind of relieved. I was hesitant at first to write this comment and share my story, but I want other people to know that they are not alone.

I was sexually abused when I was 10 by a family friend. At the time I thought I liked it and that I was consenting to it, but a child cannot consent. As I got older and started to look back on it my view of it changed as I recognized what had actually happened

As a clinical social worker I’m appalled at the comparison of pedophilia to diabetes . It’s more so a personality or behavioral issue, that therapy and treatment could possibly help if they want to stop . I definitely don’t believe it’s a neurological disorder either ! I was sexually abused by a male neighbour when I was 5 which my mother was responsible for exposing me to him (she may have been having an affair with him). I developed reoccurring bladder infections for a year and when my mother found out about the abuse, she stopped taking me to the dr out of fear of being found out for exposing me to a sexual predator via her own untruthful actions. Just after I turned 6, I developed a raging kidney infection, which was the result of the last bladder infection going untreated from the last sexual assault I went through. I spend 3 days in absolute agony, not being able to keep food or liquids down for more than 10 minutes. My mother refused to take me to the hospital, as she was afraid of them asking questions and being caught out in her own lies and deceit. It took my father pleading with my mother to take me up to the hospital, and I was eventually driven up there by my parents. If I had been left any longer, I would have died.

When the short haired woman was telling her story, and started crying out of nowhere, my heart really went out to her, all these years later, and shes still so broken, after looking so normal...poor thing....Sadly she will never find peace. I was abused for multiple years as a 3 year old in Kindergarden. I repressed the memories for years but had to live with the psychological damage before the memories reserficed and ever since. Afterwards I had sever bladder infections and threw up multiple times a day for years due to reliving memories and the physical feeling of what was shoved down my throat, I still have those. I also lived with the feeling of having to please everyone, to never complain, to always do exactly as I was told by everyone and not to attract any attention because I was taught that otherwise "the worst" would happen to me and my mother. I believed we were under constant surveillance way into my adulthood and that I had to hide this big secret, that I did something wrong and if it came out I and my mother would be punished and "the worst" whatever that was to be would accur. I have been reliving memories, images, physical feelings , smells and tastes daily and every time I close my eyes for 25 years now. I wake up screaming and still can't sleep for more than 2 hours at a time. It was a few years of pleasure for him and a lifetime of trauma for me.

I WAS ABUSED BY A Paedophile at the age if 6yrs He knew my father had just died and he knew him No one would have believe me if I had told anyone He was a well respected man on the same street It was a dreadful experience one you can never forget and because if my innocence I couldn't prove it Ywars later he was called out but never charged He should gave kicked up and the keys thrown away

People, I know this subject matter is sickening and hard to listen to and think about, but if you don't you continue being part of the problem. Please don't look the other way. If you can bring yourself to sit though just one paedophile themed documentary it should absolutely be this one. This one is truly useful and educational. Consider that you being uncomfortable and sickened for an hour or so whilst getting useful information is far less hurtful than a little child getting SAed and destroyed for life. Educate yourself, watch this documentary and try your absolute best to actually listen to its message, and you may come to make a difference that will save countless children in future generations. Maybe even your own children.

I was sexually abused through my childhood. I have Bipolar, Complex PTSD, anxiety disorder, psychosis flashbacks of him, bulimia and binge eating disorder. I make myself gain weight because I don’t want men to find me attractive so I use food as a way to protect myself (Please no one be offended by that, I am in no way saying people who are bigger aren’t attractive, it’s just my illogical thinking) I’m also covered in deep self harm scars. I came forward to stop my uncle when I was 18 and I went to the police and I had a breakdown going through it all, I’ve been in and out of psychiatric hospitals but I’ve been free from self harm and being sectioned for a year. I’m very proud of myself because I was broken for so long and even now every single day is a struggle and I am 25 now. I’ve tried to understand how anyone could do this to a child. But and personally I think there is a big difference between the sadistic smug family member that did it to me and a person who has these urges and is disgusted with themselves and does everything not to act on it.

I feel like Eddie ‘coming out about this’ is a testament to his commitment to not act on his attraction the children. By being honest, people will not allow their children contact with him thereby protecting these children and also protecting Eddie from temptation and opportunity.

I have respect for Eddie. He knows that his attraction is wrong and refuses to act on it and is asking for rehabilitation. Majority of the population isn't ready to be uncomfortable to sympathize but it's better to prevent and safe a child than to prosecute after a child has been scared for life.

This was heart breaking to watch, and yet I’m so very glad to see this (beginning) shift to listen to people who experience sexual attraction to children. When I worked in a hospital many years ago, I met a person who checked himself in because he was so concerned that he would not be able to maintain his sworn celibacy; he had “always” been attracted to children and never acted upon this. He was in his 50’s and had been single his whole life. He was going through major life stressors (just as described in the documentary, this can increase the risk of harming a child). It was through talking with him - listening to his experiences - that I came to develop so much compassion for people who truly do not want to engage sexually with (ie: abuse, assault) children, and how hard it is for them to find any safe place to talk about their own confusion and struggles.

I 100% agree that non-offending, self aware and non-predatory pedophiles should not be demonised. It is a mental illness. Yeah most likely a large percentage of pedophiles are abusing children either directly or indirectly (indirectly is in the form of supporting the abuse from others through videos and photos etc.) But we should encourage everyone to seek help in some sort of safe space where they can get help without judging. Those who do not want to follow the law and want to abuse children deserve the absolute worse tho!!

A 2 week old INFANT died after being penetrated by her uncle. What kind of thought process goes through these sickos’ brain that when they look at a little baby, theyd think “oh yeah im gonna tap that” like a sexual object. IT MAKES ME SO FURIOUS. Helpless little children and the fact that these are member of their own family just makes me want to give up on people

When Dr. Goode talks about the "spectrum" including people who are mainly attracted to adults but CAPABLE of attraction to children --this is something I have always suspected to be the case, though I'm not happy to have it affirmed. How scary it must be to be think yourself 'normal' but finding yourself occasionally aroused by little kids.

I was abused by a great uncle in the early sixties at age 13. Years later as an adult I told my mother. She brushed it off with "Oh, that happens to all girls."

My best friend and I were both abused at 8 years old by a neighbor. Our mutual friends father asked us if we wanted to come over that night for a sleepover with his daughter. Of course I begged my mom because I was SO excited... it would be my very first sleepover with a friend!! When we got there later that evening, we asked where our friend was and he said she was at her mom's house for the night. It would just be us, but we'd have lots of fun! He convinced us to stay with the promise of junk food and games. I'll spare you the details of the revolting things that took place that night. Fast forward 4 years later when I was 12, I had a mental breakdown, would recoil anytime my own father would come near me or try to touch me (no he never once did anything inappropriate to me, I was just scared of all men now). I told my parents what happened and who did it. It went to trial. Let me tell you it was almost just as traumatic sitting in that room full of people I didn't know, recounting the details of that night to a bunch of strangers, with his defense attorney calling me a liar and saying we (my friend and I) were making this all up. The worst part though was that even though he was found guilty... he got 3 months in jail. That broke my heart worst of all. After all we had been through that night, then the traumatizing days long trial... 3 months in jail. For destroying multiple children's lives. I have a deep hatred and distrust for our "justice" system now.

I was abused and raped when I was 5 by my uncle. I never told anyone, because of our economic crisis and he was very supporting of my moms side of the family...it’s still hard to cope, but we’re getting there.

I was sexually abused in a children's home in Herefordshire when I was young and every time I was abused I was forced to stay silent. The manager of the children's home watched the male staff sexually assaulting us children and she did nothing to stop the abuse.

It’s truly sad and sickening how many comments there are in this video having involved them getting assaulted and abused as children, I am one of them. There are so many people traumatized by this and it’s truly disgusting. I pray for anyone suffering from the abuse.

My mother met my step-father when I was 3. By the age of 10 I had already been through years of physical and sexual abuse. The sexual only stopped at when my mother walked in and witnessed it when I was 10. He was only asked to leave for 2wks before returning and I was blamed by him and until she died, my mother also, which hurt far worse than anything. After 2yrs of looking across the breakfast table at a man who had done so much damage, my mother decided she’d had finally had her fill of him and only then turned him in. He was to serve time in prison until I was 18 however, I served a life long sentence. These men cannot be cured. they just can’t. There were treatments put in place for him however he reoffended. That should never be allowed to happen. I’ve done my time and he should’ve been made to do the same.

It was really frustrating when they kept saying "men" when referring to abusers. Not only do women also abuse children but they go a lot less unreported. It's another stigma and stereotype that needs to be squashed. So many children could be saved if we not only prevent the actions with therapy but also acknowledge the different types of abusers - including women.

The scary thing is knowing something happened, but not knowing exactly what happened or who did it

It happened to me, the earliest memory 3yrs old, and ongoing until I was 13 and was placed in foster care. It was perpetrated by my stepfather. And sometimes his army buddies. And his brother. The physical acts stopped when I was removed from the home, but the after shocks have continued throughout my entire lifetime, and I am 52 yrs old now. It impacted everything. It is still a process of healing to this day. He died 6 yrs ago and I've made peace, and I didn't say goodbye and never regret it. Healing took grit and perseverance...3 yrs of 3 days a week therapy. I am much better after it all, and still struggle with PTSD triggered days. I know how to handle them today, but all the years that I didn't caused a lot of other challenges in my life. Sexual abuse is a sort of lifetime journey.
