The Pagemaster is a fantastic movie! I used to watch it ALL the time as a kid and never got sick of it. The actors/voice actors are very well cast, the story-line/plot is engaging and exciting and the animation itself is gorgeous. I'm happy that you enjoyed it Michael! The quality of this older, feel-good movie still holds up today in 2021 :) Look forward to your next reaction guys! :)

This movie 100% convinced me to get a library card as a kid, and kicked off a lifelong love of fiction, reading and writing. It has its flaws, but it will always have a special place in my heart

Its quite wonderful to see you watch such classic animation. Funny how you say your childhood was robbed because you didn't watch it. I think we are all guilty to not have watched some films and shows that were the apex of our times. So glad you enjoyed the movie! Another Animation I think you should try to watch if you haven't already is called "Ferngully The Last Rainforest" it has Robin Williams voicing one of the main characters so you know there.

@@ScarlettM Yes it is. Also other Animated to check out are anything of Don Bluths creation. If you havent seen any of his work trust me you will enjoy them as his animations have alot of dark undertones even though they are childlike qualities much like the film you just watched.

At the time, the movie was sold to parents as "A story to help your child discover the magic of books!" But as Siskel & Ebert pointed out "He gets chased by pirates, chased by dragons, chased by Frankenstein...THIS promotes reading??"

@@tararocksong5085true . It makes me think of another movie that was a HUGE part of my childhood. The Neverending Story . The message is the same , " Books are a wonderful way to expand your immagination and explore undiscovered aspects of your personality , but don't use excessive fantasy to hide from real world problems . " I absolutely love The Neverending Story , but the werewolf Gmork was scarring ! He inspired the scariest nightmare I ever had . Wolf-like creatures slightly creep me out to this day .

5:54 The Pagemaster is a classic. A fearful boy unexpectedly embarks on an adventure in a labyrinth-like library with 3 living books which he encounters fictional antagonists from famous stories along the way.

I don’t think I’ve found your channel until today. But as soon as the vid came up my eyes went right to those masks next to ya and went “Yup, he’s a horror kind of guy.” as a natural joke to the movie you’re about to watch.

I watched this in theaters as a kid, and… I’m about to get angry comments, but I don’t really like it. My biggest issue is that it presents all these characters from classic literature without any exploration of why the character has endured, or what their motivations are, or what has made them so popular. They’re kinda like a Marvel superhero cameo when you don’t know who the character is, they don’t do anything worth interesting you into picking up their comic books any time soon, and leave no impression on you. The Neverending Story is a much better story to get kids into books because it shows how much you can get sucked into a story. This movie has some great animation, but the story is a mess, and the kid is already a huge nerd. Shouldn’t he have hated reading? Instead, he must read constantly to get all his statistics. Really bad storytelling.

I watched this movie years ago and I read the book years later. There’re some things that were different from the book and movie. For instance, no Frankenstein scene from the book and the scene where Richard becomes an illustration is a bit scary with the paint dragon.
