As someone who got to diamond shield only and shield exclusive main i agree with everything in the video, i've been trying to give feedback about the shield since season 1 with no results, however recently I made a thread in the finals servers with all the issues the riot shield has and Oscar and Dusty both saw it and sent it to the balancing team, today they told me that that the thread is under their radar, we can only hope the changes come sooner than later Jinko i will tag you

As someone who also mained the Shield in season 1 and Closed Beta, only to realize it's defacto useless at this point due to all the bugs, watching this video re-opened so many wounds..
I just didn't go into details when it comes to melee weapons, but I did say the Riot Shield "basically can't block melee attacks". I might make a video of the shield VS every melee weapon
Hello, I think I am the only player in Spain who plays with this weapon and many times my teammates insult me or leave the game when they see my weapon. I very much agree with what you say in this video.

one tip i have for my fellow shielders out there, hit them with left mouse and then quick melee right after. "oh i will deal damage more quickly?" no, in fact you are losing dps doing that, but by doing that you will do 80 damage from the hit plus 40 from q.m for a total of 120, the point is, if you hit a medium once you will do 32% damage to his health, but if you hit the melee right after it becomes 48%, the point being, most people think they can tank losing 32% of health specially with the long delay between hits, but losing almost half of your health bar immediately and seeing 2 very quick hitmarker on the screen will make most people panic, and you can take advantage of that. also many times i have had this bug both with the shield and the dagger, where the animation queue bugs when you are trying to make a lot of actions in a short time while moving the animation freezes but the attack continues, so i hit things in front of me while the weapon doesnt move in my hand, this killed me many many times specially with the dagger, since you cant know when the backstab will end if the weapon doesnt do the animation
When making my Riot shield guide I will touch on that. Quick melee combo has a lower dps but more burst, so if the enemy is taking damage it's worth doing because it might be the thing that make them die sooner than with just the swings
As a Katana enthusiast - in game -the medium just has no melee potential. Medium needs a special ability to increase movement speed or we need the same insane tech the heavy gets with sledge where you seem to be magnetized to enemies when you swing and I'm not talking about the auto aim feature in the menu, the reach of the sledge is crazy, it hits people that are nowhere near it. OR we need a stun gun, the fact light sword gets faster movement, dash, a built in lunge with the sword and a stun is insane compared to medium who get... a zip line or an awkwardly placed jump pad on a wall or.. well there isn't anything, 100extra hp
You as a medium can put out 100 damage with every weapon BEFORE the light can out out 150 with every weapon in the game. Light is statically the worst class in the game that’s why they get all the cool shit. Their guns are not high enough DPS to win in a straight up gun fight. I mean they are super high DPS but they only have 100 health. And you can put out 100 damage with every gun in the game in less than a second
@ShootFirstNS id like to see it get a bit of a lunge when attacking ive also thought maybe make the deflect have stamina but no longer take chop damage idk I agree the swords feel weak
Although I use the riot shield rarely, it sucks to see that the developers of a game straight up don't use particular weapons or items and therefore don't know if they're bugged and don't know how to buff or nerf them. I felt this alot when I used to main crypto and rampart in the earlier seasons of Apex Legends where the devs just had no clue what the hell they were doing at any point and were always super late to bring any sort of fix or do QoL additions or buffs and even nerfs to them because they just did not know how the character worked beyond their baseline ability descriptions. Game design is hard when there's so much variety and it's very intricate to both configure low and high level play at once but it is completely unacceptable to neglect weapons just cause they're lesser used, a game developer should be the expert of their craft and know every detail, not be yet another average player who only cares about the fcar and xp5...
I get you, as a Caustic main the devs clearly don't know how to deal with him anymore. TF is going to have this problem forever and make it worse every time they release something new, and this is why we should never expect the whole game to be balanced constantly. But somehow that's how a lot of people expect it to be... despite playing the most boring, effective, reused weapons ever.
Im a former cod player, and I had serious beef with riot shield mains, but now I play the finals and I don't really have a problem about that play-style. I hope that the bugs get fixed so you have more fun.
@@h34t399 in cod I really hate snipers. I think the worst was in Cold War when pretty much every lobby just devolved into a quick scoping match. It’s far too easy to snipe in most cods and I’ve always said it’s bad to have too many 1-shot weapons that have a low skill floor in a game like cod because it halts the flow and pacing of a match too hard. It can be too jarring. The finals though, the sniper takes a lot of skill. I already think it takes a lot of skill to play the light class “effectively” but sniping is a whole other thing. It’s very well balanced so that skillful players can still have fun, while lower skill players can’t just pick it up and 1-shot everybody. So honestly I really don’t mind if people snipe in the finals.
Would also be cool if they release another riot shield but with a pistol, burst pistol or machine pistol that force you to ADS for better accuracy but at a cost of lesser protection like in Rainbow six siege :x (once they fix the ridiculous bug and issue first) also i do agree that the right click should change to third person, if Heavy Mesh shield spec can do it, i dont see why riot shield not having that feature.
@@Jinko_ Also i was about the mention, maybe give the baton a 0.3s stun when hit, then i remember the horrible flashback of day 1 brigitte overwatch using her whip mace for dmg n heal and shield bash for extra boost n stun, i was a Orisa main, i still remember how helpless i am, cant outrun her and cant dmg her, i can still hear the sound of my Fusion Driver firing, tracing her movement while her mace depleting my health bit by bit. edit: i tried to use Fortify to run away, then i heard her behind me "Rally to me!" "Alla till mig!" and back to the usual respawn point.
TKing is already a problem I was playing light with the sniper cause the new skin and I got TKed 5 times before leaving they need to add a punishment for TKing
For the riot shield, i rock gas and explosive mines with the sentry, basically full on defense. I love the riot shield, but the blocking is so bad. i wish you could see yourself in the third person in custom games.
I can tell you before I even watch the rest of this that I have never used it outside of onetime (maybe) in the practice range, not only because I like mediums other weapons more even just in concept (dual blades, why block when I could take a little damage and deflect the damage right back? defense and offense in one) but I get stomped pretty hard even on conventional weapons like the akm and fcar, let alone a melee weapon that requires me to only fight 1v1s (mostly) and yeah the trailers are masterpieces, I've never, NEVER, watched a single trailer so many times before, I had to have watched it atleast 30+ times, as you said the music, the visuals, the sound design, I particularly like the one where they synced the game actions to the music with that thumpy bassy type song for the whole thing, I'd bop along to it every time without fail also also hey gallantry! love his videos

An afterthought also, I've noticed a bug in this game where certain cosmetics that glow or produce light can be spotted EASILY through smoke, effectively making the smoke useless. I am curious if the one Riot Shield skin withe the 2 lights on it has the same issue? Another thing to consider testing :)
God, I made a post on Reddit a while back with a lot of those gripes. I’m happy you are bringing some attention to them. The Pyro bug, the Claw going through and making the animation jank and melee hits going through are especially what I want fixed. The rest is manageable and Qol, but those 3 feel especially bad and ruin a lot of the weapons fun.
a few things,1 the winch claw is a grab, so technically it grabs the shield with you on it. 2 lights, lights that are more mid to long range simply run away from you. for defense its not a problem but 3 medium and other melees (dual swords suffer the same problem) lights have mobility and heavies have the health to reach melee range, medium has a bit of both but two halves of a bike doesn't make one whole bike
@@Jinko_ I think what sjoerdderks4731 is saying is that even though visually and in code the winch claw grabs players through the shield, it can be inferred that it could instead grab the shield to pull you closer. Though after 100 hours of winch claw it just shouldn't be able to grab the riot shield.
Superb deconstruction of the Riot Shield, I main dagger but I love to take shield as a secondary option. I love taking goo grenades with the recent buff to prevent enemies from running away, it's really consistent, glitch traps are also awesome at preventing dash lights from effortlessly escaping you, but I suppose the actual melee attack could use a buff, the range and registration feels too strict compared to other melee weapons out there. I think raising the shield needs a total rework honestly, the fact it makes you easier to hit compared to sprinting to the right of an enemy makes it borderline useless, only within point blank to close range will you ever get any value from doing so, not to mention, raising the shield makes you move very slow, reduces your fov, and reduces your turn speed, I think this is so overboard and should be completely redesigned.
You and me both with the stickers and skins. They gave us card board and a police shield. And the purple from the BP. Skins i want skins. I agree with all of your points. The best quality of life for shield was the fix for getting stuck on crouch when trying to slide. Sword dash goes through the shield up like winch. This is a great video you did greathighlighting the issues we need fixed. Our riot shield journey is the same but i came from paladins. Keep it up man!
Great video. I have a similar progression with shooters as a fighting game enjoyer. If a shooter has a melee option I tend to gravitate towards it. I agree that Riot Shield and Dual Blades shouldn't be "meta" but they should definitely be consistent but also reward and promote movement. I feel that the Finals is just as much of a platformer as it is a shooter. You can feel the Mirrors Edge dna is in there and Battlefield has always had a pretty neat approach to movement anyways There really feels like way too much stuff hard counters medium melee. Nothing makes me quite as sick as players that switch to stun gun cause they got killed by riot shield and dual blades.
I agree with almost everything here. Riot Shield does not get enough love. The synergy issue is half true I feel like if there was a smoke grenade it would be fine. I shield main with a turret, nades/mines and of course, defib. It's definitely doable. However when there is a heavily saturated lobby I have to evaluate what they are bringing and usually switch to ak or something else.
I love playing riot shield too! I feel like we may have bumped into each other while playing… if you were the person I explained to about how when you sidestep you expose more of your legs, and a little of your leg when walking forward. And only feet exposed when standing still.
I would be so ok if riot shield never got any type of movement buff or rework as long as they implement it always staying on your side when interacting with things. Also I love your idea for revives!!
A lot of these reasons are why I much prefer the dual blades. The riot shield should be able to block everything that they can (charge n slam, melee weapons, and more tbh)
Every other melee has gotten some unique and interesting skins even with complimentary special animations, I had hoped S3 we would get a Japanese shield and Sword skin for Riot Shield unfortunately nope
Riot shield main here: I waited SO LONG for someone to say it! If I tell other players about these bugs they are always like WhY dO yOu WaNt A rIoT sHiElD bUfF? I don‘t want a buff, I just wanna play my favorite weapon without dying to one Pyronade and not being able to do anything
I've been giving feedback on the discord for months and the devs don't listen. I love this game, but like you I was drawn to the shield and can't convince myself to play anything else, but the riot shield experience is MISERABLE
My god. You could do this style of video with so much about the finals, hence why I've quit. Hope they do fix these issues but I'm doubtful. At least aim assist on melee is finally gone. (Good video btw. Keep it up)
I think the riot shield needs like a shove like a minature version of the charge n slam but then pair it up with the ability to shield surf, so basically u shove then use the momentum to shield surf and then u got a way to chase down low enemies. Or maybe u can just run and jump and then land on ur shield to surf(yes, i just wanted to find a reason to put in shield surfing)

I used to be a riot shield main until they fixed the weapon swap melee cancel... now the dual blades just feels like a straight upgrade :/ dual blades are cool but I wish the riot shield was a bit better - I don't want it to be top tier but it's just more frustrating than fun to play most of the time atm
Now the fact that the dual blades are objectively worse but NOONE adresses because I have to be the only dual blades main to have actually played with them for more than 1 match or two. Edit: I feel like I should clarify that I used to also main the riot shield so I know what I'm talking about.
I do think the dual blades are a worse riot shield in multiple aspects, but a better one in others... also, just for like everything else in this game, 50% of the playerbase will tell you the dual blades are OP and need a nerf while the other 50% are begging on their knees for a buff because they are useless...
@@Jinko_ I can assure you that if you played the blades for some time you'd realize that it's actually way less reliable and skill based than the riot shield.

this is exactly why this game has continued to digress since launch. they don't fix bugs experienced by mass amounts of players and when they do, its 3 months too late.
Обожаю это оружие. Баг с огненной гранатой печалит. Моя тактика простая, бегу на врага левой стороной так как там щит и пули летят в щит, а я не теряю скорости и продолжаю бежать.
Simply blocking incoming bullets shouldnt give support points, because that's not really supportive Like you cant heal yourself with the heal beam either But if you block incoming bullers and you are between the shooter and a teammate, that should definitely give points and heavy shields should be reworked to behave like that too
Glitching someone with a trap across the map also gives support score despite being technically useless for your team. The game shouldn't decide when it's useless or not because there are infinite possibilities. As for the heal beam argument I disagree, any blocked damage is damage you or your team won't need to heal back, so it's supportive in itself to block damage.
As a riot shield main, I wish riot shield could do more move sets like doing a shield bash to stun anyone for a half a second or maybe use to push heavy away about to do charge attack with a hammer, and makes it not spam able having a internal cool down of 4 to 5 sec is amazing.
More of a cool fact, but riot shield has the most hard counters in the entire game. I can't play for a while now, but I would love to see some actual buffs when I hop back. on
I sort of wonder about that… I would imagine the grenade launchers have quite a bit lol. One of the hard counters involves… being close to the person shooting it 😅. Either way it’s a shame… the game has so many unique weapons but so many of them are almost useless unless you get an entire lobby that happens to not be countering it very well.
I dunno the swords are still the worst weapon in my opinion lol at least with the riot shield, your block is passive and it’s 100% damage reduction. The swords deflect, sure, but it’s so unreliable most of the time, and if anyone else is using a melee weapon, you’re done. Medium desperately needs a specialisation AND gadget that helps with movement because there is no chase potential at all unless you’re in a building with the dematerialiser the whole chase. There’s also no crowd control at all so it sucks. That’s why I think the riot shield is better than the swords because at least the riot shield fits the “medic” role that mediums have. Keep yourself alive, heal team, defib when they die. That being said, it’s always important to shout out the genuine bugs with stuff that isn’t working so good on you 🤙🏻👌🏻
big problem with tons of weapons isn’t even balancing really, they’re just poorly designed and have major oversights compared to the standard ak47 and ARs that have been perfected after this many decades of gaming. dunno how embark will fix it all lol
Pyro nades hurt anyone for direct hits. To be honest. I don't think a riot shield should be able to stop a massive force like a sledge. It should be able to block the sword tho for light.
Pyro nades hurt you but then you move out of the fire and barely lost HP. If it hits a Riot shield, they are blind and cannot survive. Kind of a big difference.
no people buy riot shield skin...and nowaday the game is dominating by Light wish dash , riot shieled even harder to chase and kill them, still didnt count those autoaim assist and cheat, now riot shield just become a joke, now they encourage the dual blade, so riot shield can put aside, maybe wait next or next 2 season only come back, but that time no more riot player already
Embark just nerfed the knife and hammer, weapons that were not even meta... but the sword nope, untouched, not only that it still have the exploit of hitting twice with lunge... so yeah you-re gonna have a hard time getting it fixed or even buffed when we know who the favorite kid is
@@kuiplerzzz9001 I don't play sword so i haven't tried but there is a "tech" called phantom hit where you lunge with sword quick swap and cancel the animation with a emote that let you do a normal hit, that translate to do a lunge and a free melee hit in the same time than a normal lunge animation.
