To me, this is the most beautiful movie ever produced. I can't understand why it didn't win an Oscar.

I know. It is the best love story I have ever seen on film. I just don't understand why it is not celebrated as it should be and why everybody hasn't seen it. I mean, everybody has seen Pretty Woman, Notting Hill, Gone With the Wind, blah blah and other mediocrities, but not this?

This was the most beautiful and important movie to me...she finally realized she loved Walter and the music was absolutely amazing.

She grew up there after witnessing the people there and the emotion changes people, she was a young and naive girl when she went there but she grew up and found the meaning of love.

She is talking about the babel (2006) movie director Alejandro González Iñárritu . Later she work with him in movie called birdman ( Oscar winning) feature edward norton also .

She seems to be talking about "Babel", which is a movie that was directed by Alejandro González Iñárritu in 2006, whom she worked with in "Birdman" like 8 years after that, but its not clear who she's talking about exactly. If she is talking about him or one of the actors in the movie or another movie named Babel. Who knows 🤷‍♀. I'd really like to know too!

I watched this movie thanks to RU-vid, I appreciated it a lot, however,I read the novel a few days ago and I must confess that I was a little bit disappointed, indeed,I didn't understand why the screenplay is far to be faithful to the book...(I'm french)

I think the film is better than the book.....the book left me with too many questions

@@lighto2240 They commented this 3 years but I’ll gladly add my two cents in their place. In contrast to the original comment I’d have to disagree and say that this is the only time that I prefer and love the movie more than the book. I’ve read the book in one day & after finishing it .. I feel disappointed and rather bitter toward the author. It might sound childish but I’ll give my reasons. 1. It is written in third person, yet the author hardly provides any perspective other than Kitty’s. The point of a third person voice is so that they can expand on more than one characters point of view and allow the reader to gain a collective understanding of how they really felt and thought. I esp. wanted to see how Walter felt during their arguments and moments of sincerity and not just a description of what he used to be like. Seeing as the author was following the journey of Kitty , she may as well have made it first person. 2. There was barely any expansion of their actual dealings in China thus making the book seem rather dull. All the author wrote about was how Kitty would always go to the convent and Walter would go to work. But she didn’t necessarily elaborate on their experience. However, in the movies they clearly reveal the extent of Kittys and Walters dealings rather than focusing on their love story. For example , the movie shows how Walter becomes ill, yet the book only states it within a mere sentence, neglecting any suspense and potential foreshadowing. In comparison to the book, the elaborate details within the movie made it much more realistic and added more depth than the book should have. 3. Kittys redemption arc is far greater in the movie than the book. How exactly can you tell me that Kitty was downright selfish from the moment she’s born til even after she’s experienced EVERYTHING in China. In the books, it shows how she clearly gets over the wretched Charlie, learns to love the children, exert herself in physical labour and service, and even appreciate the gentleman that Walter is. And yet , for some reason, the author csnt seem to bring themselves to consider that maybe Kitty had the potential to also change her feelings of indifference to Walter into love. She repeats over and over that Walter is so loving and tender and yet she says she still doesn’t love him. It doesn’t make sense. Once you recognise the immense value in someone that, in itself, is alrdy showing signs of affection toward them. I feel like the author was just very adamant in communicating the harsh realities of life through the characterisation of Kitty. But I feel she had so much more potential and surely an epiphany regarding her past relationship , life and sense of meaning should have also evoked an epiphany where she realised that she truly loves Walter. The movie mastered Kitty’s redemption arc in every sense of the word. She grew from her past experiences of selfishness, lust and condescension and learned to see the same as Walter did- in a caring and open way. Therefore , it made sense that she was able to change her mind about Walter and love him because she too had changed. Might I just add that the Kitty in the book was downright disappointing and disgusting. She did not change at all despite what the book says. Even though she states all these admirable things about Walter as if she were thoughtful of others, she cheats on him again even after he dies and has the nerve to whines about it afterwards. I’d rather Walter have died then be tied to Kitty for the rest of his life. The Kitty in the movie gained dignity for herself and her husband. She became loyal in the end til even after his death and we see it through her naming her son, Walter, and immediately ridding herself of Charlie when given the opportunity. Although the author seemed to have wanted to create a ‘realistic’ love story , I believe they failed to recognise the true extent of their characters and the potential they had to change for the better and redeem themselves.
