One year ago I set out to paint a self portrait in the style of Minecraft. I set myself a goal at the start of 2021 to finish a self portrait as if it was done in Minecraft. This Minecraft Self Portrait Took Me A WHOLE YEAR To Paint.
I've been in art school for 6 years and I can confirm, there is little that feels as good as finishing work that you're really proud of. Who cares how long it takes when you're doing something for yourself. If you rushed it it could've turned out sloppy and not nearly as refined. That said, clean those canvas sides with some white (or you could use black) and sign and date that masterpiece.
This turned out so well! I’m amazed at how you kept coming back to it since it’s always tough to get the motivation to do so. It’s inspiring! I should probably finish up some of my own projects 🤔👨🏻
my dude, this is so so cool!! an enormous effort and it really paid off, turned out super!! loving the videos, they never fail to make me laugh, but this was a special one, absolute props to you and what you achieved here! 👨
More so than the shaving of the mustache; this is the end of an era. Half painted portrait, you will be missed. Looks sick finished though! Love your work
I recently found you through your audit shorts and while those and your other videos are hilarious, I think this might be my favorite so far. I love the way you made this video. I recently went through a very similar scenario with a piece that I finally finished after like 6 months, so when you finished the painting and just stared for a bit, I fully understood that feeling. It’s truly awesome getting to finally look at something that took so much time and effort to make and being able to just be proud of it. No more “well I made a lot of progress on it today” or “what do I have left to do” or “where should I start on my next sitting”. That’s so badass that you were able to get around to finishing it, and I think the dedication to do so is inspiring. 👨🏻
I don't know why but I kept thinking of Dorian Gray while watching this. It at least captured a year of your life. I appreciated the 50 Shades joke... kinky/corny. A masterpiece in the end. Well done.
As an artist, you have my utmost respect for actually continuing with it after so long. it takes… a lot to be able to do that. So no hate from me it looks awesome
Oh my goodness, so I'm a visual artist and I hate greyscale and pixal art and mixing shades so that looks like it would be terrifying to me. But good job it looks soooo good!!!
As an artist, youre so so doing good by finishing that painting. The sheer determination is awesome. You have no idea how many work-in-progresses any artist have that gets thrown into oblivion. Lol. And, not to mention, it turns out super awesome! This sure can be a motivation to someone out there. Again, good job!
Your excitement at the end of the video is just so... touching! As an artist I totally understand it but also can't imagine what is it like finishing after a whole year, that must have been much more rewarding. Glad you had the determination to come to the finish line and to painting the very last pixel. Proud of you and I am certain you are proud of yourself too whenever you look at it. Good job! 👨🏻🎨🩵
I just randomly decided to check out your channel after your hilarious gromit video and came across this, I did not expect this whole emotional journey this was amazing! 👨
I cried at the end cause this artwork really does represent a lot and I'm so happy about it! This video, idea and execution was so so inspiring and beautiful Thank you and bravo!!
This was honestly great to watch! I have too many goddamn unfinished paintings that have just been sitting there for probably a year. But seeing the relief on your face after finishing it is kinda motivating :D good on you! No idea where moustache man is but here take a beard guy 🧔
as an artist when i saw the pixel version i already knew its going to be a pain in the a. respect you finished it and we artists also make things more simple and/or "cheat" time to time never feel bad about it. it looks amazing, cheers!
8:34 (prepares roasting pan) I dunno if the program you used does this, but I know that in Microsoft paint (and/ or in MS paint 3D) there's a feature where you can pull the color with a 'dropper' and it'll tell you that color's RGB Hex code. Granted, it would have been a pain to check all 1280 pixels, but then you'd know which ones where the same color, and could've mixed the colors in batches, and knocked it out by different tints. (unless this IS what you did, in which case, I appear to have burned *myself*)
4:11 felt this pain in my fucking SOUL--if I had a nickel for every time I counted wrong, and I was off by at least *one* square in a counted crossstitch project, I'd have at least 3 nickels.
I admire your dedication, the way you went back at it through and through is honestly inspiring, and painting with a white t-shirt? I know you live in Australia and danger is just your daily basis, but damn. Got to appreciate the risks 👨🏻
For making a piece of art its never the hard part to make it. Its keeping going even when it still looks like doo doo. Let me say this it looks great, even if your brain says other wise, cause it will, it looks great.
I started something like this in colour with more smaller squares because I wanted to gift it to my now exboyfriend. Honestly just for that reason alone I'm happy we broke up because if i would have had to finish this i think i would have been insane by the end. So you have all my respect! And as a sidenote: You kinda look a lot like Damiano David!
I’m an artist and there ARE much faster ways to do that, BUT in this case it strikes me that the journey was every bit as important as the destination. It looks great!
