The Palace Of Illusions By Chitra Banerjee Divakaruni Book Review | द्रौपदी की महाभारत 

How can a author write about a real character under the head of illusion... Extremely sadden with what lie she has written the book....how can draupadi love Karna who instigated thought of vastraharan in duryodhana's mind... Over compassion for unfortunate life of karna should not lead to demoralize draupadi who is from one of the top 10 chaste women of Indian scripture's.... It better to read original Mahabharata.. Reading such fiction books is like drinking milk which has already been poisoned by a snake

Karna - Draupadi angle was quite misleading, it did more harm than good to young generation by presenting a wrong history, followed to TV version of Mahabharata, made it more disastrous. In original Mahabharat , Karn couldn't even lift the arrow, and no Suta Poot comment was made by Draupadi. In fact Soot community was very respectable community. Apart from that , author empathised the characters well 100/100 for feeling the characters and penning it down.

This is the first book i have completed reading fully. And i just loved it but again that karna part was disappointing...

I didn't like this book. Draupdi has been portrayed as a jealous, insecure, quarrelsome woman. And then Karna- Draupdi love angle...just by putting a disclaimer stating it as a work of fiction, the author distorts the beautiful story.

Today only I've finished reading this one. Couldn't agree more about that climbing-up-the-hill scene. Seriously I too felt as if I was accompanying Draupadi & the Pandavas. About that Karna part- I think it wasn't that necessary because already it was a very refreshing retelling of the Saga through Draupadi. Till now, Mahabharata mainly was a Kauravas v/s Pandavas thing, but this book has opened so many chambers of my mind that now I pity those who very easily blame Draupadi alone for the war ; for the seeds of that battle were sown even before her birth as Bheeshma told her. She was never at peace with her mind, be it Sage Vyasa's predictions or her reputation. When she mentioned that unlike other women at the war field- she was not that much tensed- this sent shivers down my spine that how daring and ready she was to now face all that she has started. More than anything, my respect has increased immensely for this lady warrior.💖🙏🏻

Karna draupadi angle is not new. Lot of novels such as mrityunjay and radhey has explored that angle and there is a old folk tale called jambul akhyan in Marathi also. You getting offended by this love angle. But think draupadi as a normal human being not as devi. She was repeatedly failed by her husband. First she was shared amongst her husbands. She loved arjun who prefers subadhra over her. Then she was stalked in dice by her husband and was dragged and humiliated in front of her husbands. Yet they kept mum. So to think that if she had chosen someone else, then she would not have gone through sufferings is not wrong at all

its not mythology. its history of this globe.

I just finished reading Magic for Marigold by Lucy Maud Montgomery and I cannot stop thinking about the characters and the beautiful story. There shouldn't be Karna and draupadi's love angle. I strongly object it

Yagyaseni by Pratibha Rai is better book on this story. Yagyaseni is originally written in Odiya language.

Also one more thing, its part legend part history. We know for a fact that these people and kingdoms existed. So don't label it as myth.

I was moved by the vastraharan incident while watching Star plus mahabharat and then I decided to read this book...

It's a fictional work and the karna Draupadi love angle is completely fake it has nothing to do with original and authentic mahabharat Though it's a fictional work yet there will be a negative impact on the character of Draupadi. I request everyone who reading this book to read as a work of fiction She is goddess and as pure as mata sita

Mam novel padhna acha hai par muje novel likhne walo se yahi problem hai ki vo reserach nhi karte hai. Actuly book vedvyas ji ki read karna imp hai. Karm or droapdi love story😔 dropadi jiska janm ek purpose se hua tha sab pre deside tha mahadev ka vardaan tha use isk liye 5 husband se shadi hui vo panchkanya hai normal women nahi. Uska name sati stree main aata hai jiska matlb yahi hai ki puri trh se vo apne husband ko lekar dedicate thi.yeh novel likhne wale aaj k time ko dekhte hue apna dimag lagate hai.

I Think Chitra Maam has tried to convey all the things that Panchali might have felt and so the love angle might be one of them

Bina padhe sab mat karo agar himmat hain to Ved Vyas ki Mahabharat padhi Draupadi kabhi galat nahi thee Drupadi didn't said Andhe ka putra andha to Duryodhana and about to choose Karna she have full right to choose her husband at her choice.

I've read this book during my college days in 2013. It's an amazing book from Draupadi's perspective. It discusses everything from her childhood, her brother dhrishtdyumn , her grandmother, her relationship with Krishna and Many more. Very honest review

I think she willing married Pandavas to complete purpose of her birth. I don't think she regrets anything. Karna cannot help her kill Kauravas so she would never love him. We shouldn't forget that she isn't a normal woman. I loved Krishna's portrayal in it.
