Avoiding late battles for time sounds very Shin Megami. They made a sequel for this called Lennus 2. I do love the aesthetics of this game.

Nails can recover HP via his equipment which leeches off enemy's HP. If he is defeated he can be recruited again by simply returning to the area where he was initially found.

I just finished this game, it's amazing. I actually adore how actually short it is. The lore is also amazing. It's like a 90's love letter to 60's 70's Sci Fi.

So well said! I really liked this one, the art direction is SO GOOD. It's alien in a way a lot of media is afraid to try

My headcanon to explain this art style is that Paladin's Quest takes place in the Fantasy Zone. Space Harrier and Opa-Opa are busy doing their things just off camera.

Holy crap seizure warning lol This games pretty bizarre and I appreciate you have the stamina to muscle through these long rpgs but this is one of the most interesting yet. That robot is one hell of a design idea. The kind of memorable and unique thing you'd expect from Demons Souls. Congrats on 800! :D

You are slightly wrong about Nails. He has 'energy draw' which is a drain life ability. He can heal with that from whatever weak enemies happen to be nearby.

@JetWolfEX
@JetWolfEX 3 года назад
Yeah this game has flaws with the battles but the art style and unusual plot kind of makes up for that, I wouldn't mind playing this one once in awhile. I've seen the concept art for this game and it's really unique and well made, after seeing it I realized they probably wanted to do a lot more with graphics but just couldn't manage it you kind of have to fill in the blanks because of how abstract the simplistic visuals are. I'm sure you know it got a sequel, it fixes a lot of the problems PQ has and the visuals are a lot more detail, but that point you made about PQ being short is the big problem with Lennus 2, it's extremely padded in the worst ways possible (and the soundtrack is significanly less inspired). I'm not even sure which I could say is better, they're both flawed. Anyway good video I think you were fair with it and basically everything I'd agree with.

I know this video is a year old, but someone mentioned that you could heal Nails, which is true. You can also get him back after he dies if you go back to the place where you recruited him the first time.

You can actually heal the robot. If you press left on its attack menu thing you'll do "Eng drw" which heals the robot for 1/2 of whatever damage number.

@@JasonGravesPoser Once you figure out it targets an entire group of enemies, it's 100% broken.
@markdelz299
@markdelz299 2 года назад
Speaking of broken, there's a weapon you can get in some tower in the town with all the dead people. If six of these little blue enemies run away from you they combine into a big blue enemy. That enemy drops the most powerful weapon in the entire game. There is precisely zero reference to this weapon being there, so if you're playing for the first time not using a walkthrough you can just stumble onto it on accident (guess how I found out about it)

I'm quite curious to see a review of the sequel, Lennus II. I personally think it's one of the more underrated hidden gems of the Super Famicom. It fixes a lot of the issues the first game had, including the boss fights. I was enough of a lunatic to do a full solo playthrough with just the main character Farus and no other recruits.

On the one hand, paladins are the best class and quests are the best adventures. On the other hand, Chezni and his name inspired an annoying guy on a game dev forum I used to go to and his terrible games.
@Dhalin
@Dhalin 7 месяцев назад
So, the guy plays the game _completely wrong_ and has a bad experience with it. Such as the clip of him hitting the enemy for 4 damage with his knife at the beginning of the video. The game makes it *abundantly clear* that you are a *MAGE* and as such, should be using *SPELLS* to kill things. If you're doing anything other than blasting magic with Chezni or Midia, _you're doing it wrong_ quite simply. And I know, I know "but but casting spells uses HP!" ... that's why you don't sell your medicine bottles when you get new ones. At the end of the game, you'll have like 4 mini bottles, 4 large bottles, and 4 giga bottles or something like that and you can go entire dungeons, blasting away every battle, running away from nothing, and getting ridiculous amounts of XP from it. Oh and as you cast spells, not only do they get stronger, but your resistance against that element grows. By the end of the game, Chezni ends taking 1 damage from pretty much every non-physical attack. Oh, and let's not forget that Midia's crown heals herself for 800 which is a powerful heal through most of the game which lets her spam her spells as much as she wants.
@Dhalin
@Dhalin 7 месяцев назад
Also, the spell leveling... how you were supposed to do it, is use a spell until you master it, and then move on with the game until you unlock the next element, use that until you master it. Some late game spells are _extremely powerful_ like Bury (Air + Earth). You used _Fire_ through most of the game? No wonder you struggled and didn't like the game much. If you had discovered the ludicrous power of Bury, you woulda been laughing at the puny enemies standing in your way. Also, as I mentioned above, Sophie's Crown when used in battle heals Midia for 800. There are also a couple armors in the game (one of the mercs comes equipped with one) that does the same thing. The reason why they allow you to use all those body parts in battle, is because some of them have spell-like effects when used in battle. Some cast buff magic, some cast damage spells, and a few will even heal you.

Going to the back half of the world map and seeing it just being undone was weird. I still love the world, races, look, enemies, party selection, music, vibe, and spell advancement system. The music loop is just interesting and long enough and at a beat that fits with the walking speed and time in each room and area.
