Written Review for the Pass X250.8: bit.ly/3ILj1n3
Instagram: @stevehuffofficial
Today I share my review of the Pass Labs X250.8 Amplifier and I also compare it to the Pass Labs XA 60.8 Mono Amps. The X250.8 is a class A/B amp where the 60.8's are Class A amps. I have had the XA 60.8 amps here for over two years. How will I like the 250.8?
I hope you enjoy!

Current XA30.5 owner but I aspire to own the XA60.8 monoblocks. Hard to go back the A/B once you’ve lived with A for a while. I love my amp so much that I bought speakers for the amp (Spatial Audio M3 Sapphires), not the other way around!

Great review, Pass Labs 250.8 only the first 16 watts are in A class, 350.8 18 watts, 150.8 13 watts all in A class, Monoblocks 260.8 first 34 watts A class.

Interestingly, I have seen both 16 WPC and 25 WPC cited for the 250.8's class A power

I also preferred the x250 on various speakers that I had at the time. I eventually bought some single ended tube amps but I think I’m eventually going to find another 250. I really miss it

Thank you. I don’t know what I’d do without my Pass X150.5. 16 watts class A, 150 and much more A/B - powers KLH 5’s AND Maggie LRS. Dreamy.

Nice Review! If you are looking to try a very different Pass Labs animal, the XA25 would could make for a interesting review. It has two extra large MOSFETs for the outputs instead of Pass's typical lineup of smaller MOSFETs, takes an advantage of square law and has no degeneration. A very interesting amplifier both sonically and technologically.

Perhaps you may want to review one of the FirstWatt amps in production at the moment. Your Fleetwood speakers are sensitive enough, NO?

Pass xp32 sounds more resolved than xp-22, especially if we replace the cables that connect the cases with higher-class ones. Changing these cables significantly improved the resolution.

@@NateEllhave you had the Revel Studio 2 speakers as long as you have had the Pass amp? Have you ever had any problems with either, and if so how was the customer service? I'm just asking because I am about to buy a pair of Revel Salon 2 speakers and a Pass 350.8 and I want to know that my purchase is going to last. I already have the Pass XP20 preamp.
@NateEll
@NateEll Год назад
@@brianmoore581 hi Brian- I have had the Studio 2s and the Pass Amp and Preamp since late 2015. All have been entirely trouble-free. The Salon 2’s are magnificent and if a pair of those had been available at a similar great deal I probably would have gone for those, but I have zero regrets about buying the Studio 2s. My speakers and my electronics are definitely “final purchases.” That’s how thrilled I am with them. The only problem I did have involved the XP20’s remote control. I contacted Pass and they very quickly swapped it out for a new remote. That was well past the warranty.

Very helpful review. I've been looking at the monoblocks 260.8 to replace my current Odyssey Stratos reference monos. I am curious what and how big of a compromise the 250.8 or 350.8 stereo would be over the 260.8??! I know Pass is in a different league than what I have now, but curious if it is worth it to save a few bucks and go with the stereo over monos. Would appreciate your thoughts.

You left out tube amps which run hotter and cost about the same or even more to run.
@thomasnoe1193
@thomasnoe1193 Год назад
That depends entirely on their class. Class AB tube amps (generally) do not run as hot as Class A tube amps (same for solid state).

Based on this experience would you feel confident that the X150.5 would be enough for the DeVilles? Do you think the 250 is overkill? I LOVE my Accuphase, but I find that I'm often pegging the needles on this 30 WPC gem and it gets nerve wracking that something might clip or pop...

would atc scm 40 fed by either of these 2 amps, with a dcs bartok streamer? The atc s are monitor speakers, very neutral and with an excellent mid range, articulate bass and an OK tweeter.

Your assessment is similar to my experience with my class A and class AB Nelson Pass designs. I believe class A isn’t more accurate or better sounding than class AB. In most cases the opposite is true. There are so much misinformation and unfounded biased beliefs in high end audio.

How are you hooking up a subwoofer with the pass labs XP-22 preamplifier ? would the XA200.8 be a better match to X250.8 ?
@veteq101
@veteq101 Год назад
With the REL you can use the "High-level-input" connection, the sub connected to the same poles has the speakers so no issue matching it.
@HiFiHuff
@HiFiHuff Год назад
There are two ways to hook up the REL S/510 I have to this system. One is with the high level connections where REL supplies the custom cable. This connects to the AMP itself and the sub receives the same signal as the speakers do. I can also hook it up via the RCA pre outs on the XP22 into the low level inputs on the REL (not the LFE). I tested both ways for 2 weeks each and much prefer using the pre outs on the XP22 into the sub vs the REL proffered method of using the High Level connection. Just sounds better, integrates better and disappears in this way at least in this system.
@thomasnoe1193
@thomasnoe1193 Год назад
Depends on the sub, of course, but given that my sub accepts RCA/XLR inputs, the XP-22 has two sets of outputs, XLR and RCA. I run the XLR to my amplifier and the RCAs to my subwoofer. You can use both outputs simultaneously.

Still don't understand why manufacturers keep on implementing vertically oriented C13 IEC inlets :-( Most power cables end up hanging skewed from those inlets, which leads to deteriorated contact... When the inlet is postioned horizontally, the risk of bad contact is much less... Bad & lazy design work! :-( And for that matter, a big amp like this would be much better off having a C19 inlet anyway...

I've had zero issues with mine.
@dennisstempher9684
@dennisstempher9684 Год назад
@@thomasnoe1193 It does depend on the type of power cable used (stiffness & weight)... I've had very bad experiences with AQ Storm series power cables in conjunction with the vertically arranged IEC inlets of my Moon Dac & Amp :-( It wasn't until I invested in multiple Furutech NCF Boosters (cable cradles) that I managed to solve the problem...
@thomasnoe1193
@thomasnoe1193 Год назад
@@dennisstempher9684 I'm using AQ Tornado HC on mine and while definitely unwieldy and stiff, I guess I was lucky that everything ended up positioned "just right" so that there isn't any real pressure on the inlet socket.
