You just made a grown man cry. This work is beyond words, I took the liberty of having a look at his repertoir and my GODDDD! I am both inspired and depressed... I feels weird.
corinthian That is a really interesting thought!! I feel Alvaro's work benefits from the advances in technology with regard to photography....it's not photographic by any means but because our eyes are familiar with photographic images in glossy magazines etc perhaps the way we view the world is influenced by this...and I think this is a crucial difference between watercolour painters today and the impressionists. Would be really interesting to know if you agree..!
Its true that photography as a medium has helped many up coming painters to easier isolate and control both colour and composition. Yet this is only a tiny part and many are not as interested in photography or glossy magazines for that matter. We see the world with a very different heart and have a much more cynical eye and approach. Often thinking more with technique than with our hearts and emotions. The biggest difference, I think, is our"slightly" better understanding of the tools we have with us. Yet in all honesty, education in this field is still very lacking; most do not know what they are drawn to and certainly not why, unless, the painter has given enough openings and room for those questions. Watercolour is a great medium for spontaneity and has always lent itself to quick street scenes. He has a very commercial style, dynamic and rich. Almost shutting all the doors and yet his technique is loose enough to allow for some movement. Pity only that his people seem so static.
