Sarah planted the seed in Colorado over a 4th of July visit and Luke came back from Italy excited about the idea of Dual Citizenship. Having Italian heritage doesn't automatically make you eligible for citizenship, but because our maternal great grandparents never naturalized (they were still Italian citizens when their children were born here in America) we qualify.
We are the last in our family line who can get this - and we feel that it would be an amazing way to reconnect ourselves to our Italian heritage and pass this connection down to our children.
So far, we have our list of documents we need to start gathering, but the biggest challenge is trying to secure an appointment with the Italian Consulate. Currently both the Houston and Chicago consulates are not taking appointments, and they tend to be booked 2+ years out.
It's not going to be an easy process, but we are excited nonetheless!
