Abzu, Journey and Pathless these games would not be complete without your music. Music in those games perfectly captures that aura, it is just ideal for an open world, that is full of mystery and ready for you to explore. Amazing work Austin, can't wait for more.
Journey remains my favorite because it's simply perfect but The Pathless has surpassed Journey for me for growth and creativity with the Alash ensemble feature. They take Austin's music to another level and really ground everything.
I love the Mongolian throat singer, the Nyckelharpa, the way you have chosen to use barrel drum/frame drum, a Cymbalom or a kind of asian banjo (with Marimba sound)?... The recording engineer and the scoring mixer have done a stunning job capturing musicians' performance and mixing it. The depth is nicely mastered here. I did not want to get spoiled during the contest, so I'm discovering Pathless' OST only now, sounds stellar! Great job Austin.

He would sing that as well as the theme from Journey (Nascence) randomly anytime anywhere (even during school time, I heard from the teachers). I remember giving up on spoilers and listening to just the Journey soundtrack because I never thought it’d come out for PC! (I got it as soon as it released for pc). Now I’m weak for your music and can’t resist so long again.
Austin, like many here my first exposure to your work was when I played Journey many years ago. I recently found Abzu and I was completely blown away. I am such a huge fan of your work. This OST especially reminds me a lot of Jeremy Soule, but it feels even bolder and more stylized. I wish I knew enough about music theory and music in general to be able to explain why your work has such a profound impact... for now all I can say is that It's really great stuff. ive been looking for Awakening One's soundtrack everywhere!! the bass line from the redwood steppe area stuck out to me but i couldnt find it on the main album so i'm glad to see it here!

I love Discovery 1! It's such a fun calming theme that still manages to be energetic and not just flat. That's the main problem for me when finding music to work to, the calming music is always flat, and doesn't have enough energy. The only other video game music I can think of that works well is Greenpath and Queen's Garden from Hollow Knight composed by Christopher Larkin.
I stumbled across this OST on one of RU-vid's random playlists, and even after 10 minutes in, I knew I had to play the game if only to experience the music in its own environment. I was not disappointed. I just left the Red Steppes to enter the new realm. First Journey, then Abzu, and now the Pathless. You're an amazing composer!
If you loved truths, one.. wait until you hear truths, two! seriously though, every time that track comes along I have to stop whatever I was doing and just close my eyes to take it all in.
Huge fan of all of your work since I was first introduced to it in Journey. Loved the soundtracks to Abzu and Erica. Pathless is an instant favorite. Love it! Don't get to hear Tuvan throat singing in soundtracks too often.

i had already loved the first album for this game to bits but i think this album release is what skyrocketed the ost to one of my top 3 of all time. the soundtrack was a huuuuge contributor to me falling in love with this game almost immediately, thank you austin! always a pleasure to listen to your music ^_^
You stand next to Motoi Sakuraba as a contemporary legend of narrative in sound. I can't express enough gratitude and joy at this music, especially facilitating what you described to 8-bit Music Theory as "playable mythology". You've captured that like Sibelius captured Finnish legend, or Bartok Hungarian folk moods. Keep at it...

Huge fan of your work. After my mom died, I was having panic attacks. I would lie in the tub and listen to the Journey soundtrack. Escaping into your musical universe helped me during those trying times. It brought peace to my troubled soul. Thank you for your work.
Basically no overlap. The ambient video was done precisely because I knew there wouldn't be commercial release of that stuff. This is available on Bandcamp , Spotify etc as a proper album
When you write a score like this, that has to react to the player in such a large and open environment, how do you collaborate with the game designers themselves, to control how it's used? Do they provide a set of events or states that the engine might trigger, and you compose according to those? Do you go into the engine and set up that system yourself?
Which song is the one with the Mongolian throat singer?? When I played the game I absolutely loved the throat singing and have been searching everywhere for it :D
44:23 is not original music, this video is clickbait, unsubscribed Seriously though, great work man - this is everything I want from a game OST (ie not the loud bits). Be interested to know how the music gets remixed dynamically, can't think of any other games that treat their music like that (apart from RDR2, sort of) - could make for a cool video, if it's not a trade secret :)
Such an amazing soundtrack, literally no one does it like you. Bought and finished this game with the true ending recently and it was absolutely beautiful. I am curious, if you're able to answer, what's the distinction between versions one and two of Discovery, Awakening, etc?
