When making jam instead of jelly, you can use processed and strained Granny Smith apples in place of pectin. Get rid of as much juice and just use the apple pulp. Granny Smith apples are loaded with pectin and does NOT make your jam bitter, so you can add as little sugar as you want. We add very little. Amazingly fresh tasting.
@@simpsimps553 In what way? Do the research. Green apples have a good amount of pectin. We use this method as well to create blueberry pie filling instead of making gelatinous goop like everyone else.
American here: First heat the pan on a high heat until hot. Then lower it to medium. Then add a nice lump of good butter. After melted, add two slices of whole-wheat or favorite bread until toasted on one side. Remove from heat, add homemade raw peanut butter and mushed fresh strawberries with sugar in it on each side. Lightly heat the sandwich until lightly warm on the inside. Cut and eat it. It’s the very best way to eat it. It is. Trust me. It’s my favorite food😃 enjoy
@@revonz it's a type of soft creamy cow's milk cheese similar to camembert that's made in Brie, France. Why the swastikas? Are you from Asia or a neo-nazi?
This reminded me of a time when my step kids were little and decided they wanted an omelette for breakfast. I had eggs, but nothing else to put in an omelette, not even cheese. So, I made them grape jelly omelettes and toast. When I served them up, the kids thought I was the coolest person ever. Score!!
.... so you're saying you had such high standards as a 5 year old you actually gave a shit about your pb&j and it drove you to a therapist. seems like you could have more problems than a therapist could handle lol
Same here. 23 seconds, I can't do it. Peanut butter on one side, jelly on the other. Spread ghee on one side and put onto panini press, ghee on the top and press that sucker down. THAT is a grownup PB&J.
I have always assumed that the US term 'jelly' referred to jam... a total revelation now I've seen this clip! Thanks Mike! Probably not even on topic, but I have to suggest that peanut butter and honey (manuka, preferably) is AMAZING!
I found there are some folks in the USA that don't know how to make a PB&J! Astounding. Since I also knew that RU-vid is the place for tutorials, I thought to check here first. Smart. I never thought I'd learn how to make a gourmet 'everything from scratch' PB&J omelette. The world is tilting off its axis, and will soon meet the Sun. Good job, and now I'm hungry!
So when making jam, you can completely bypass adding pectin powder by instead making a pectin puree from apples and lemons. This is what i do with my lower pectin level fruits, and i find it adds an extra depth of flavour without really being discernible or overpowering.
Sounds cool, two questions. Is there some kind of a test to figure out how much pectin is in the final homemade product? and Does homemade pectin minimize the amount of sugar that has to be added for the jam to set properly? (Similar to what was mentioned in the video)
Secret recipient: Turn on the oven broiler. Butter outside of bread slice, add peanut butter, preferably chunky variety, to inside. Hollow out a little depression in center of peanut butter. Add jelly/jam of your desire, or whatever the jellish stuff leftover in the fridge is. Take second bread slice, butter outside. Add a thin layer of peanut butter on the inside. This is to glue this contraption shut when you put the two pieces together. Put the two slices together, butter out, of course, then slide it onto a low shelf in the oven. When top starts to get toasty brown, flip it over and proceed to get the other side toasty. In my over, it’s 3 minutes per side. Slide this rich toasty concoction out onto a heat resistant plate. Let sit for 5 minutes, if you have the will power, so the peanut butter doesn’t scald your mouth when chewed. Heaven. Between. Bread.
No it wasnt mass produced, that just didn't eat one. Most families eat this as a struggle meals. So it mean if you feel its mass produced it means you grew up without struggle mean doesn't mean your didnt struggle. Also another things o clarify the difference between people who are struggle and put who did not, If your family struggled you are the whole sandwich no one cut the crust off. No one is not wasting food!!!. The a difference between what a priority food and what its luxury. People who didnt struggle are with crust off cut into shape .
Well i live in india and peanut butter here is really expensive or i dont know it might be expensive everywhere or it is just me who thinks it is expensive but.... I always make peanut butter at home
Made this yesterday....soooo good. I hit my custard with cinnamon, vanilla and a sugar packet cause it was just sitting there...that's how my mom always made french toast growing up. I also used a GF oat loaf. Thanks for the inspiration as always!
Also good in homemade peanut butter: homemade vanilla paste, freshly grated cinnamon, a little splash of bourbon, or some other nut butter like pecan butter or cashew butter.
FWIW, peanut butter (like chocolate) is 'hydrophilic'--which means it absorbs water--and, as it does, it 'seizes'--literally turns into a delicious brick--until you add enough more water. You can use this feature to do some pretty cool things. As homemade/'natural' peanut butter is much looser than the processed version, you can add jam/jelly/banana/etc. to it and the water that they contain will tighten the whole thing up. (In the case of this recipe, it would keep the jelly from leaking all over the place.) For a simple, two-ingredient frosting/fruit dip, mix 1:1 peanut butter and yogurt. Yum!
I was doing this 8 yrs ago😂😂...when I presented it to my kids they looked at me sideways...they ate it..loved it and asked for it regularly...they are now young adults out on their own and still make this 😃😊
Ya who what's to eat pb&j on an old boring pice of mas produced white bread when you can eat if off the razor sharp edge of a mas produced steel blade and miss out on the excitement of possibly cutting your mouth. Besides i'ed choose the taste of blood and cold steel over white bread any day.
Raspberry preserves are the best! The seeds add a bit of texture. The only other jam I really like is plum, but I don't think that would work on a pb&j. I guess strawberry jam is ok, but most jam is just too sweet.
When ya said Walla taking out the Allah bread not sure how you missed: Walla! The Challah bread! It's the little things that make quality videos for me, my man.
I thought I was gonna skip through another audible or square space sponsor, but I’m genuinely really interested in le parfait bc I’ve always wondered where u get those great jars
Hey Alex, I was intrigued by your idea for a PB&J and thought I could give you an alternative process: * Only dunk one side of the bread in the french toast batter * Cook only the custard side * Assemble the PB&J with the bare bread on the inside This way the filling doesn't melt, but it adheres to the bread and it's easier to eat.
I know it's been a while since you made a Sandwich episode, but did you ever do a Cuban sandwich? if not, that would be a good addition to the series. Or a Dutch classic, broodje kroket where you make your own kroket and mustard.
Try using butter on your bread before applying the PB&J. It gets rid of that annoying sludge of PB in your upper pallet and makes it easier to chew and enjoy
Here's my pb&j recipe for a double decker banana PB&J Ingredients: 3 slices of bread 1 banana cut into slices PB J Take two slices and spread PB on one and J on the other. Place half of your banana slices on top of the peanut butter half. Take the third piece and spread J on one half and place it face down on the banana slices. Spread PB and place remaining banana slices on the other half. Finally put your last slice of bread spread with J ontop. Thank me later
I don't understand why people think he did. He was an agricultural scientist and was definitely a cheerleader for the various uses of the peanut. But I never read anything about him inventing peanut butter. But then, most people learn about him in elementary and what would children associate peanuts with except peanutbutter so I guess it makes sense.
Challenge: next time you make custard for frenchtoast add French vanilla creamer, and half & half (instead of milk) and cinnamon. Your mind will be blown. But you probably won't read this comment. 🤷♂️
Nice, thx! Could work as a bread-pudding as well. Tasty on crepes, as coated cookies or in a milk shake. But Brioche or pretzel, crunchy pb (for the texture) and red or black currant jelly for me. Crust 4 crunch;o)
I thought I was the only one that has a pep-pev of some jelly getting in the peanut butter and reverse also. By using the same utensil for the jelly as well as the peanut butter
I noticed the Subway Lines changing above the walk-in Refrigerator, Is it a real "live" WiFi Subway train line accurate?? Or is it just random?. Just wondering. The Peanut Butter Sandwich for ADULTS is the BEST I HAVE EVER SEEN!!!!!!! I LOVE YOUR SHOW KEEP THE GOOD IDEAS COMING!!!
That's because somehow the idea of teaching us the roots of the different ingredients and then how to make a better product. So what we got was a history major that also had some cooking information. And then a loose connection to something small. I'm not saying he shouldn't get credit for the actual context. It's the package that fails.
Nathan Lieblein oh it’s tottally better than wasting 20 minutes of your life that you will never get back from looking at memes continuously ..scrolling on IG to what if seems to be endlessly...wondering both : who thinks up this stuff ...and why am I still looking at these photos that high schoolers make??! @@anti-ethniccleansing465 Yes, grilled peanut butter and strawberry spread is my new go-to. Gets warm enough that the PB and spread start to melt and run out. It's glorious. Game Changer that I am glad I tried out.
@@Famousfifty8 Grilled, you say? Interesting! I have never tried grilling it before, only toasting the bread for peanut butter and jam sandwiches. I will have to give that a shot one of these days. Strawberry is good, but I’m all about raspberry preserves/jam myself. Grape is just gross haha. ;) P.S. you have given me an idea… Sometimes I will make peanut butter and sliced banana sandwiches by toasting the bread as well, but I bet it would taste really good grilling it. I want to try that as well… Way back in the day when I was going to college, I used to make a peanut butter and banana sandwich (or use an English muffin) every morning to eat on my drive to school. It was very filling and got me through many hours of class.
Honestly, I had a similar thought as a kid. I always thought I could always have one, those 3 ingredients were always around the house and it was effortless to make one so, it was never ever my go to as a snack. I did eat them, but I usually made a grilled cheese or fried bologna sandwich.
I looked at that and was like WTF is he doing. It isn't no empanada... although that would be interesting fresh, but the bread would be soggy from the jelly AHHHH. Sorry, tangent, but then I saw the finished product
I'm not American, I don't live in America, and I have never seen or even eaten a Peanut Butter and Jelly Sandwich. And here I am, watching a video on how to make one. EDIT: I just ate one it was magnificent
