Wow Randy! I am 68 yrs. old this April and I have used and loved the watermelon seed centipede since my twenties. I have never heard of nor seen anyone else use or talk about it ever! I love that worm and it has never let me down and thanks to you, I have another way to fish it if I can find them.

@Mon-el.7
@Mon-el.7 Год назад
@@joelelias2556I used to Texas rig it with a 1/0 worm hook, narrow or wide gap, and a 1/16 or 1/32 bullet sinker on a spinning rod. You could jiggle it or hop it slow. It occasionally caught 4 or 5 pounders for me, but 2 to 3 pounders were and still is common.

I'm sorry, I just got this reply today. I rig it the same way you do with a 1/32 oz bullet. It has never let me down. I have just never put dye on the tip of it. I have only caught maybe 2 or 3 five pounders on it, it was common to catch 2 to 4 pounders on it, you just didn't know when.

Have you tried using a Z-man giant TRD? The buoyancy of the TRD will cause the bait to float right above the bed . I feel the smaller profile is also harder for the bass to just grab a small part of the bait and spit out away from the bed. I also try to use a hook with a bait keeper since the z-man baits slide easier and can bunch up.

Good info Randy.....one of my lakes I fish is a reservoir here in NC and on clear sunny days you can see 20ft. deep and it's really hard to catch fish because of the clarity, you have to make super long cast when beating the bank. You mention Norman and the spotted bass, yes...there is so many that the lake is over populated. I have heard of guys talking about when catching the smaller spots that people should chunk them up onto the bank to help thin them out. I would never do that, has anybody ever seen or know of an angler that does this? I'm sure it's illegal too.

I have a way of fishing plastics you may wan't to try. Pass the point of the hook through nose of your bait (Texas style) put a tie on style sinker on the hook before placing the hook back in the bait. A Bait Button or piece of rubber band can be used to keep the sinker from falling off when the bass jumps. This can be used as a finesse rig or a heavy rig with 10"or 12" worms. With the weight on the hook shaft rather the nose the rig is nearly snag free.

Split shot was THE technique in Southern California for decades back in the 80’s and 90’s. It’s still an often used technique but never talked about. Don’t be surprised if many of the “I caught em on drop shot” reports were actually split shot fish. Killer technique any time of year. Thanks for letting the “secret” out. However in SoCal we tend to use skinnier and hand-poured worms.

Hey Randy thanks for another secret tip Randy I like that set up strike king makes a French fry I know you like zoom better but I would like to have some scent in my bait but I promise you Randy I will try the zoom one too . Hey Randy that french fry bait is great for a Carolina rig to thanks for all you do for us your always giving us more and better options to catch the bass and you know what Randy when I'm able to get a boat I'm going to be fishing totally different and that's because of the NUMBER ONE U TUBE CHANNEL INTUITIVE ANGLING. I agree. A killer rig. I once bought what I think was called a mojo sinker. It was cylindrical in shape and you would use a tool to pull a rubber band through it to hold it in place on your line. But I’ve lost track of them. Too much tackle to keep up with LOL! Usually I pinch a slit shot on the line. Don’t think I’ve ever used a slip sinker pegged as Randy shows here but I assume it would work well. Started out using French fries years ago and they still work, but I have used smaller straight tail worms with success as well as other finesse plastics. What is it about the shape of the Ned Rig type bait that works so well?

@ 5:58 that works for all bass if you ask me. though my main experience is castaic lake california. but only for a small time. 3-4 years and even smaller observing during spawn from a rented boat in the spring. but it was super clear water and even a few times when i was on a rental i could see 15-20 foot down in some of the coves that had 0 wind and the water was just that crystal clear. but the trick i would do on rental would be to turn motor off around the point and then just sit on the front of the boat and use the paddle to paddle down the shoreline but still around 20 yards from shore or so and go into the coves stealthier. so the few times i did observe them during spawn. i would see the big females cruising in small groups usually a lot deeper then all the smaller males in the shallows. usually they would do a big circle in the coves they were in. so you would see them come around and then cruise back out but always deeper then the shallow males on beds. not that they wont spawn there. just mainly they were in small group and cruising when not actually spawning. one time also i was on a huge female that i could see and she wasnt moving really but she was close to a bed that was deeper that i couldnt see that deep and she was just hanging around the top of a big boulder. i couldnt see the bottom of the boulder but for the heck of it that day i also tried to fish lower around it hoping maybe there was more giants down there. but a small male came up chasing my bait and she chased him back down. i tried for 5 hours to catch her and she wouldnt bit anything. came close a few times but always turned... was annoying but also cool to actually see it all happening. but ya all my big fish from there came from fishing deeper then most people would think. also all the big fish i caught at castaic lower and upper besides just a few when they did bite was not like anything you would expect from a fish that is that big. they were all super soft where you have to be in tune with what you are doing to even notice it. even before i moved i almost got one of the biggest fish i ever got there and it hit my bait like 4-5 times on way in just small taps. the bad thing i had big plastic worm and the hook was mainly only at the front part of it. so it kept only biting the back of the worm just barely when i finally pulled my bait all the way in this beast did full breach 5 feet in front of me and was just so cool to see but also big disappointment because that fish was so big. now i live near ky lake so its almost like learning again except a lot of stuff i learned at castaic does apply here also. from shore here its just a lot different. i like to fish deeper period like 10-25 foot and if i could target mainly 20 foot areas thats what i would probably do all year. that to me is where the big ones are most the time from my experience anyways. but that lake also didnt have a lot of stuff for the fish to hide at around the shore like other lakes. all of its cover was in the water. later man. good stuff though. ill have to try the nail polish. the only reason i dont like this method that much is at least from shore. i like to fish bottom or just off the bottom. and having a weight before the hook and worm i snag a lot. i like the weight on bottom and hook higher so hopefully just snag the weight only and only lose it and not full rig. ya and for some reason all my big fish have been dragging or near the bottom... later man
