I've noticed after raising many ducks, if they are used to picking them up by their underside, you wont have to hold their wings when someone picks them up. I always try to handle ducks by their chassis right after they hatch or they will be spoiled for life lol.
Thank you for this info! We have a private lake with about 20 home owners. Don't know who owns these four ducks, but they came up my boat ramp and I feed them shelled corn and cracked corn because I feed mallards and squirrels. I know this is not nutritious, but I like them. Sorta like a kid going to Grandma's house for cookies! LOL But, on a serious note, I didn't think they would over-eat, so I want them to be healthy. I will pay attention to NOT overfeed them when they come in my yard. Great video!!! Thank you so much!
Do you put diapers on yours or are you just risking getting 💩 on? I’m asking in all seriousness. We just got a Swedish and a Mallard. They are about 3 weeks old. I’m also kind of curious when you think will be a good time to put them outside…? They are about to outgrow the brooder. Thx! ♥️
I do have diapers but they don't come in the house very often because ironically I'm allergic to their "dander"! If the weather is warmer where you are you can put them out sooner but usually it's best to wait until they are fully feathered at 7-9 weeks :)
@@QuackProductionsChannel Thank you so much! We are in Tennessee, and it’s super hot and humid. I’m mostly worried about predators. We have a hawk that frequents our property. I would be so sad if something happened to one of them. Thanks for getting back to me! ♥️
I started my baby ducks on the Purina pellets and they still eat that. It says from babies to adults. I also feed them frozen peas, frozen corn, diced peaches....
what is the normal leg spacing for a 5-6 week old suckling with SPLAY LEG? i’m trying to order a leg spacer and can’t find any information online! thanks
I think they do overheat or it might be stress? I have a big duck(not sure if she's pekin) , I think she's like 3.6kg bless her soul (she and her boyfriend are rescues from a woman who could not look after them and was given them as a gift) so she can get quite hot. Most of the day she floats around and swims in her pool, it's 1.5k litres-ish so she dives under sometimes which keeps her cool. Other times when she's out wandering the garden, she usually has access to water and occasionally starts panting but it's quickly remedied when we give her some water right next to her or put her back in her pool! She doesn't pant due to stress, she seems quite happy lol OH also she had a respitory infection when she was a baby, had it when we got her which required a vet visit and some medication for her to get better otherwise she'd have passed away ☹️ So do watch for that, she didn't stand for long and tended to get very out of breath very quickly. She's long past that infection and is thriving now! So yeah its probably just overheating, try and keep a lot of shade and water around. My garden has trees so they'll go under them if they're too hot ☺️
Please help me out here lol, My mom is thinking about getting me a duck if I make a list of everything and what I need. I live in the outer banks and I have a little bit lower than average backyard. How do I setup a “tiny bedroom” for it?
My son ducks are 5 months old and are starting to ramble around in new territory he doesn’t know why. He feeds them good but lately they have been coming in front yard and crossing the road…They have been staying in backyard but he said they act like they are hungry and searching. He is concerned they may wonder in rode and cause an accident. He has a steam behind and beside house they played in
I haven't I've just been crazy busy! I have a full time job as well as a side hustle so finding time for my hobbies has been difficult. Hoping to create more content when everything slows down :)
@@QuackProductionsChannel hope you do have weekends on your job... Finding only 2 ~ 4hours a week for your audience isn't that too bad (making content)😊 Things can never slow down if you're not fast ⏩ enough my dear 😁
As long as you chop it up really fine so they do not choke, sure! I've also got a great free resource on good and bad treats for ducks. It's in the description of those two videos!
how come my pekin ducklings don’t stand up a lot and keep almost falling over? is there supplement i could provide? it just started recently, they were fine at first.
I would add some NutriDrench to their water and make sure their food has niacin in it and if not, you'll need to give it to them as a supplement. I would also do some research on good supplements for adults, as Pekins tend to develop leg problems over time because of their size
@@kimbo3468 unfortunately vitamins and supplements did not help, she made it about a year and passed away. we did everything we could, i just believe it was too far passed fixing
Absolutely psychotic normalized craziness. Petting and animal talking about how cute they are even making names and explaining them all while eating them. Humans are weird mainly due to religion. Time to go vegan and move forward as a species it’s 2023
