The pendulum equation is the result of centuries of endeavor by a series of great minds.
Not only does this formula derive the period of a pendulum but it also provides a method for determining acceleration due to gravity . The video demonstrates how to use a simple pendulum and the equation to determine acceleration due to gravity.

You can also use it to determine the value of pi if you know the length and the gravitational acceleration in your neighborhood

No, this can't be accomplished, because, well you can always take the same length anywhere you are on earth, but gravity is different at different locations on earth. This will give you different values of pi everytime, which is against the definition of pi (A Universal Constant). No matter where you are in the Universe trying to measure/calculate pi, and no matter what experiment and techniques/Mathematics you use to find pi, you always end up getting the same result. That's why, pi is called The Universal Constant.

To make a pendulum period really independent of amplitude, one can add a pair of cycloid plates up near the pivot. Can you demonstrate and explain this? What errors in the pendulum equation does this reduce? What size cycloid plates are best for a pendulum of a given length?

Kepler's third law says T^2 = A^3, this also means T = A^1/2. it is very similar to Pendulum equation.

If the setup is identical over the same number of swings then the influence is also consistent. There will be an insignificant change as atmospheric pressure changes just as the boiling point of water changes with atmospheric pressure. Obviously if you attempted the same experiment with (say) 100 swings then the results would become skewed as the pendulum slowed down. You could however try 10 individual runs of 10 swings each.
