The Pentecost Icon 

Attended my first Divine liturgy today on Pentecost Sunday and spoke to a priest. God bless this channel!

With God's good grace, I found a key to Orthodoxy today. Our Redeemer truly answers prayer.

As a Lutheran, there is definitely a reason why Lutheran churches are adopting eastern iconography in church rather than western.

Masterful. A masterful presentation. And an example of why icons are essential because these images give a tangible explanation of spiritual concepts hard to grasp otherwise. If i ever saw something that exemplifies "a picture is worth a 1000 words, it would be this." I had not expected to be so impressed by this. Never would have expected to feel such a silent, quiet, orderly response to this.. (to allude a bit to your pointing to the orderliness of the Pentecost icon..) As you know, we live in a world in which the coming of the 'Holy Spirit' in some kinds of services is anything but calm and orderly. But anytime i can think of in which i in any way have felt some awareness in me of something coming into me from outside,, the experience was calm and strengthening. I so hesitate to say those words lest i appear to be something i am not or to appear to point to huge experiences that i might have had.... which i have not had. Nor am i setting myself apart in some way.. By no means is that my intention . I am speaking of moments which many of us have surely had when some kind of significant insight or experience resulted in calm , quiet reflection as opposed to another response. This video itself leads to that kind of calm orderliness. Anyway, thank you.. I am pleased to understand Cosmos. .in effect, that that is where all of us stand in the icon.. we don't usually have places in icons.. And, now, i hear the exclamation we sing at Pentecost. It is 'imaged' by those holding books and scrolls and surrounding Cosmos: "THEIR PROCLAMATION HAS GONE OUT INTO ALL THE WORLD! , AND THEIR WORDS TO THE END OF THE UNIVERSE! "** ☦💝📿💝☦ **words i have always loved to sing.

Thank you for this video. I wish there was more explained in connection to Israel. At Pentacost, historically, was and is celebrated as the anniversary of the covenant at Mt Sinai, between God and His people. That covenant was eventually broken by Israel and God promised a new covenant. The original covenant at Mt Sinai is depicted as a wedding, a feast, and God's desire to dwell with His people. But, that covenant was broken. In Acts 1 the disciples ask Jesus if He was now going to restore the Kingdom to Israel. He told them to wait in Jerusalem for the gift of God...

I agree with your teaching there is one thing, though that historians and other scholars insist that it was not just the 12 apostles, but many of the other believers in the room, including Mary, speaking with other tongues, and sharing this experience, and that does matter
