I’m living in lowell 29 years later and this is such a fascinating study. Every second is so valuable. I might create a 30 year restudy and ask the same questions in 2022.

I’ve been living in Lowell for 8 years by now. I can guarantee that Lowell is a lot more safer according to older residents. From time to time a violent crime might happen but not so common anymore.

Wow this video is great the first few minutes the boarded up house with parking lot to left with closed down store is where I lived from 1981 till 1984. Moved out of Lowell for my children's sake! But the address was 722 Merrimack street!! My son was born at St Joseph's hospital up the top of the hill in 1982! (NOW GONE) I used to buy M&M candies for my daughter at the store next door. I cant believe seeing that. Was an old mill house and we lived on the first floor front. Saw some crazy shit there for sure!!. I heard the house is torn down and it's a parking lot now. I haven't been to Lowell in years! Thank you for the video and quick flashback to what once was, at least in my memories!!

@@swiftpiechop415 If you don’t get this comment, then you’re either lying or you haven’t stepped foot outside in the last 20 years. There are Heroin/Fentanyl/Methadone addicts scuffing around all over the city. They stand at traffic lights begging for $$ so they can go buy more dope. They’re everywhere. If you haven’t noticed them, I’m assuming you’re blind

Think it's just typical city, but I remember walking across town in the middle of the night a couple times back then and no one ever bothered me, if you don't bother anyone, no one would bother you, gang people mess with other gang people.

That's exactly right . The people involved in different activities keep to themselves they don't bother the average individual. Literally had a problem years ago when I was 13 downtown on a Saturday with my buddy and some kid said he would hurt us if we didn't give him money. We just laughed at him and said come on try and do it. Only time ever a problem

@Cresencia Aldrico in the early 90s let's see parts of the acre part of the lower Highlands. Some minor garbage in lower Centerville. Pretty much it and most of it is confined to those areas I don't know about now but. That was it a lot of domestic crap people fighting drunken stuff some serious as well

⭐⭐⭐ We owned a three decker in Lowell that housed section 8 tenants. The housing inspectors were relentless in their demands for repairs and renovations. Tenants would move in and refuse to pay rent. Some of our tenants owned guns and damaged the property. We had one tenant, an ex-con with a pit bull, who turned his apartment into a pigsty. We took them to court and had them evicted. A year later we sold the building.

@Luxe Aux Do you imagine people living in an urban area such as Lowell abide by government dictates to quarantine and use face masks? Reports of covid-19 cases are very high in Lowell.

I'm from a different place and time. Pawtucket RI and well into my 70's. I've been to Lowell often. It's the birthplace, home & resting place of Jack Kerouac for crying out loud. It's the city of St Jean and the Grotto. Like all other mill towns in New England it has struggled over my lifetime. I was kinda tickled by observations of residents surroundings and who they seemed to think was responsible for their town and city. Not that it isn't the same everywhere, it is. I suppose we all think that there is some organization responsible for businesses failing and boarded up homes and mistreatment by law enforcement. Perhaps there is. I don't know. But I think it has more to do with jobs. The jobs today appear to be in education, medical the state or city. I wish I had answer's but no, like the film makers, only questions. We live in a Capitalistic society and seem to be proud of that but there should be no taxpayer's in Capitalism, only Shareholders who deserve returns & dividends. At some point the wealth and profit of our tax investments should be returned to the Shareholder to provide a decent life so we can look around and compliment ourselves for a job well done.

Dude @6:08 doesn't want his face seen because he was probably just coping a bag of smack. LOL. I love this city lived here my whole life. But some parts of this city, i wouldn't get caught in after 8PM. Oh and as far as a racial problem ? There is about 20 different nationality's living in Lowell. One of the most diverse city's in the world. discrimination exists but it's not like you think. There is a lot of harmony in this city. Different races living right next to one another. It's beautiful. 99% of us don't see skin color or races. We simply see what everyone else should... People.

I agree! I’m from maine living in Lowell! I’m black.. my late husband Lao. Kids bi-racial. Neighbors Spanish, Cambodian, white Americans, Vietnamese, and African all within a stones throw! I couldn’t ask for better neighbors. The sense of community in Lowell is intense, loud, and proud. I own a business right in Dracut and I see someone in there from every corner of the world. It’s a beautiful thing! Which in return gives us amazing places to eat 😂💖
