Please visit the Southern states of India i.e. Karnataka , Kerala , Tamil Nadu . Here ancient sites which are 1000s of years old are preserved . Do hire a local guide in these states . They show many more tourist destinations with detailed background info than available on the net . People here know English well and there wouldn't be any communication barrier.

@@RhettandClaire hill station is just another way of saying touristy towns up in the hills/ mountains... Which you can find in all the various mountain ranges of India. You guys got to visit the Himalayas and the north-east India. It's a totally different experience to the rest of India
