I'm think Ed Wood would be a good choice. Both are about the behind the scenes lives of the characters while at the same time you get to see a production playing out.
the life aquatic with steve zissou- they’re both movies about the unknown, in different forms (space and the ocean), and people’s relationships, being explored by the same director. i also think asteroid city and life aquatic are wes’s two most heartfelt films.
People did a lot of Barbie/Oppenheimer double features, but I think an Asteroid City/Oppenheimer double feature would be absolutely perfect. Both about a group of people stranded on a scientific retreat in the middle of the desert, but completely opposing vibes
I'd nominate Eraserhead - the nuclear/family/nuclear-family anxieties quietly bubbling underneath the surface in Asteroid City's colorful dreamland exploding into a visceral pitch-black nightmare.
