Great video, thanks for the lesson! Does the granite or glass dish over time as well from the abrasive powders?

I can't sharpen a knife to cut butter. How ever the first video of yours I ever watched. You sharpened a Mora with sandpaper. You used spray adhesive to hold the sandpaper to a flat piece of what looked like marble or granite. That video was a lesson well learned. I personally own eight or ten Mora Knives. I use that technic to keep them sharp and I strop them with a old barber strop.

That's awesome, Roy! So glad I could help you with that technique!

One thing you didn’t mention is that the glass is also being ground away. Since you are flattening a concave stone you are, at the same time, creating a convex glass base. Check your glass. I suspect it is eroding at a slower pace than the stones but the glass surface is probably no longer flat.

I use sandpaper on plate glass. Pretty much the same concept. Just a bit more accessible. I really wonder how much glass you wear away with this method. I feel like it’s negligible.
@kyle_noseworthy

I keep an eye on the flatness of the surfacing plate. It hasn't worn to date. The surface finish has scuffed, but no detectable dishing.

Can this method be used on diamond stones as well?
@kyle_noseworthy
@kyle_noseworthy 3 года назад
It totally depends on the type! It could definitely work on diamond matrix stones, but not metal plate dmt stones!

@@kyle_noseworthy Thankyou. That helps a lot as I am just gonna start using Veneve stones but I'll find out what to true them with so no worries. Thanks again. From Ontario...stay safe and sharp.

The sharpening stone is not flat because the knife sharpening technique is not good, the sharpening stone will be dented, we need to change the knife sharpening technique accordingly. Flattening the stone inadvertently wastes mud, its use will make your knife, my way of sharpening it is like sharpening an axe, fast sharp and good for sharpening stones.
