Thanks Roger. This looks like a great first fridge to start overlanding in my JKU. I'll keep this in mind when I'm ready to buy.

I just found your video while searching for information on budget gear to set up my vehicle for extended traveling (6-12 months to start). I'm on a set, very limited income but have decided I no longer want to delay chasing a dream!

I’ve been using a JoyTutus 26q in my Squaredrop for a year now and I am very pleased. (I originally had a 23q but my wife took that and it’s been running 8 months straight at freezer temps as we have issues with hour home fridge) but they are more than enough for a 4 day weekend. Sure you will need to cycle your cold drinks (take one out one in). With my blueyetti 500wh it will run for 2.5 days. With my 100w solar plugged in it will run forever. On my longer 10 day trip I just plan on restocking around day 6. I am very happy with the Chinese models. Also the Govee little squares are great, and cheep. I keep one in the trailer and one outside to monitor daytime highs and lows.

Yeah, the budget fridges are better than people (including me) think they are. I mean, it's a fridge. They've been around forever and the basic tech hasn't really changed. Thanks for watching!

@@ggg4runner Putting to the test tomorrow, will be visiting different job sites. Probably around 250-300 miles of traveling. So cooling it down tonight and packing water, snacks & lunch for tomorrow. Temps here around 103-104 and will be running it off a home-brewed battery box with 3 - 20AH LifePO4 batteries. May drag the off grid trek solar panel to throw over the windshield and check it out as well.

I snagged a 23L BougeRV fridge last year right before heading on a long road trip. It was in mid-April so nights were still cool enough that the fridge would carry it's cooling throughout the night without a battery. Even still, these small fridges tend to sip power, so when I did get a portable battery, I didn't have to spend a ton.

you'd never go back to an ice cooler am I right?
@boyflux
@boyflux 11 месяцев назад
@@ggg4runner not a chance! A similar capacity cooler would only cost a bit less, and then I have to worry about refilling ice? No way!

Hello you’re very informative and helpful and you make your content interesting fun thank you Also how about two one as a freezer and one as as regular fridge?
@ggg4runner
@ggg4runner 9 месяцев назад
Hi, replied to you on IG too but just in case... you might be better served with a larger dual zone fridge that SetPower also makes like this 45L amzn.to/3Ze5t9M or same thing in 35L amzn.to/48gjl7E. They make even bigger dual zones up to 75L. But you definitely could run two smaller ones and have the flexibility of only taking one sometimes.

Ole boy was hilarious 😂… also what a superb review! Gotta give the thumbs up to my northern commiefornia brethren. I’m looking at setpower and trying to decide on a size… I’m more paranoid and want slightly bigger even though it will primarily be for just myself…but occasionally I’ll have one of my kids with me so I’m thinking the rv45s…. Or the pt35… I do love this lil guy and possibly plan on getting it for when I’m out and about in the summer and just have it filled with drinks. But this is for daily stuff to keep in my tundra full time. I was looking at bougerv but setpower gives you 3 years warranty vs 2. This is what sold me, besides all the good reviews. Be safe brougham and thanks for the stellar review

I’m looking at a eco flow delta 2 for power with solar and alternator charging?
@ggg4runner
@ggg4runner 9 месяцев назад
Hi, replied to you on IG too but just in case... a Delta2 would be more than adequate for your 12v fridge needs. 200w of solar and a clear sunny day will more or less replenish what my larger 52L uses on an avg day. Freezer temps would consume a bit more power but I’m not sure how much. Set at 38F, my 52L uses about 160-170 watt hours overnight.

I have that exact same one and the instruction manuals explicitly says that it’s intended for indoor use like an office or similar. set power advertise that its for camping and travel but then the manual says different. Also, the temp fluctuates wildly with mine and I don’t trust it for foods that need to be kept under 40 degrees. Temp will bounce between almost freezing right up to 40 degrees regardless of the what it’s set to. My dometic cfx keeps a more consistent and tighter temp range.
@ggg4runner
@ggg4runner 11 месяцев назад
My testing suggests it's good enough for me but to each their own. My other $1200 made for transporting medicines in Africa, used by many overlanders, big-name-brand fridge fluctuates about the same 🤷🏻‍♂️ Sure, I don't have long-term data but so far so good.
@ChopperChad
@ChopperChad 11 месяцев назад
Good point on price. I do like it cause it’s affordable and I use it as a freezer or fill it full of drinks. It’s great for grocery store runs and the like too. I’m just disappointed in what set power advertises and what they say in the manual.

@@ChopperChad I still haven’t read the manual 😅 but knowing what I now know I might have opted for one of their larger ones instead of my expensive one

mine cools down to 3 less degrees than the temp i set it at, and compressor turns on about 5 degrees above set temp. that is perfectly fine with me as i set mine at 34.

@@ggg4runner If all you are going to do is weekend, vacation type stuff then yes. You can opt for a cheaper fridge. Those National Luna, Engel and Snomaster fridges are designed to be used everyday. Expedition fridges. In pretty harsh environments. There's a vid on Overlanding Journal. That has testing of some of these expensive fridges. It's a pretty good watch. Value is always what people look at. Or percieved value. I've had a lot of these fridges. I'm running two Iceco's in my Peterbilt. And they seem to be the darlings of RU-vid. My sister has a Iceco VL45 as well. There is a difference between low end and high end.
