He’s also one of the few genius characters I’ve seen who actively enjoys sharing his knowledge. Most genius characters horde their knowledge and find it tiresome to explain their plans to those who can’t keep up with them. Meanwhile Senku loves sharing his scientific knowledge. He enjoys pranks and trickery, but clearly because it’s such a fun way of using the scientific knowledge he’s spent his whole life learning and gets others interested in learning. His earnest friendship with Chrome built on the desire to share knowledge is probably my favourite character dynamic I’ve seen in shonen in a long time.
Aye quick theory, spoiler warnings...... So you know how Senku’s dad found the Ishigami village, and most of the people there are basically his dad’s blood. What if Taiju’s parents were alive then too and had their own descendants in the Ishigami village. Cuz I can’t help but notice how similar Chrome is to Taiju.
All I'm going to say is that if Senku was in real life, I'd totally back whatever sort of Kingdom of science he wants to create. Dude has vision like no other
The relationship he has with his father is honestly one of my favourite parts of this anime, it felt so good to see a positive familial relationship especially seeing how well this relationship also ties into the plot.
My two most interesting anime protagonists are Light from Death Note and Lelouch from Code Geass, though I might put Senku in my top ten since he is also showing great development as a character.
I love how he tries to play the part of the genius character making the logical choices and sometimes even tries to claim that some of the more emotionally driven choices are logical choices
Well, he's not wrong. Logic and Emotion are not mutually exclusive. Apparently saying the word is now "comment-delete-happy" on RU-vid, but look to WWII and fighting the baddies. It was both the logical and moral/emotional choice to fight against them and their plans. A bit of an extreme example, but the principle still stands.
Senku is such a great character. He’s a very balanced character who plays to his strengths and understands his weaknesses. The way he uses his genius is very exciting
Senku isn’t just a genius to be genius with out reasoning. He actually has an actual interest in science as a kid and then grew with that. Science, is more than just engineering and chemistry. It’s a collective of curiosity/questions and the drive to push to get the answer.
One of the aspects i find really pleasing about series is the fact that Senku is actualyl a humble person, who find a pleasure in hard work and love to share his perception with others. Suika not being able to see world as Senku made him want to share his literal vision with her, same as he did with Chrome, by sharing his knowledge of scientific world. He also respect people around him and understand importance of diversity in society. And additionaly, his "shared vision" trait is something you'd find in art or education. It's a desire to share experiences with others.
Wow! An intelligent character that doesnt sound pretentious nor comes off as "I am 500 billion percent higher in IQ than you ever will be in your lifetime" either? Sign me up!
Senku's commitment takes the cake, for me. He will keep failing until he succeeds. That is my favorite aspect of his character, learning from his mistakes and the trials of others. He is goal driven like no other hero so far.
"I thought you knew how to do this!" "I know how to, I've just never done it before. Science is all trial and error." I'm paraphrasing but that's my favorite thing that he says!
He's almost like Rock Lee; a genius of hard work. He wasn't born with this massive intellect, but worked to achieve it. He doesn't act like a god wielding science as a weapon, but rather a mortal man who understands the beauty of science while deftly utilizing it.
I like how they explain why he knows so many topics instead of focusing on one like most geniuses do. His motto early on was to study everything, question everything. If he had a question he would find out what the answer was for himself and went deeeep into that knowlage. I can imagine him questioning what antibiotics were and then researching that and then questioning how they were made and discovered and researching that too!
I absolutely love this anime. It is SOOOO refreshing to have a protagonist whose goal is not to save a woman, find a woman, has NO interest in relationships, but to reach his goals instead. I absolutely love what they did and are still going to do with this anime. As a manga reader I am SUPER STOKED for what is yet to come, it's going to get so good. They did an awesome job all around in my opinion with Senku's character development.
Senku has brains, but not brawn, so he isn’t a Mary Sue, which I like. That and I love the face he makes when he and the others are trying to make iron xD
Senku is a “good” genius character,he had his supplies given to him before the New Stone Age but now he realizes he is only the brains and not the brawn.Tsukasa could have been the perfect protagonist (kind of making him generic) but he has the wrong ideals,we see he is almost as intelligent and intriguing as Senku therefore making him the perfect antagonist .
There's so much of Senku to break down and love, but one thing that really stuck out to me is that he's not the condescending genius. Yes, he knows he's scientifically the smartest guy in the room at all times, but he not only genuinely values and openly praises others' strengths, like exploration (Chrome), investigation (Suika), psychological insight (Gen) and craft skills (Kaseki), but he's never one shy away from putting in the same effort as others. Even though he's not the strongest, he still puts in the labor along with everyone else. Even when he has the entire village at his command, that doesn't change anything except make his ideas bigger. Though he'll delegate as it makes sense, he still busts his ass with everyone else and he's never shown that he ever feels like something is beneath him and I think that humanizes and makes him incredibly likeable. As much as they joke he looks like a villain when he schemes to make people help him, its not ever like a deal with the devil where people wouldn't do it anyway to get what he can offer them. Its an equivalent exchange. People aren't his pawns or tools, they're his potential community and its so heartwarming that he happily uses his intellect for good.
also, kinda spoiler but i think not, he doesn't kill anyone!! even with science! and he tries to find peaceful solutions to problems! i love that in him. and he has really poor stamina
sanattia not true cause kinda spoiler but people have died because of him but it was self defense. It’s just that he doesn’t seek out people to kill and he cares for the well beings of the people around him.
@@bubblegumblue5304 yeah but he didn't fight them or killed them himself, it was science that did it and it was in self defense. that what i meant, i just didn't elaborate . i just really liked how conflict with tsukasa was resolved, especially his followers
Senku is the best mc i'v seen in a long time. He's kind, humble, grateful and all around a normal human that possess burning passion for helping and making things to happen not only for himself, but for others aswell
Every once in a while its good to have a hot head it makes the story far less predictable sometimes, totally see where you coming from, but i have to say that this revival is not a tragedy.
@@Embo_1 I mainly said this because he isn't flimsy about his ideas and just does it. He dosent get too emotional about dumb shit. Actually correction hes able to control his hot headedness pretty well in latter chapters and is able to come up with solutions without focusing on what he dosent need to focus on.
Well, I can at least respect Black Clover because it at least knows that it's not doing anything new, the author just took the conventional shonen tropes that he likes and just dialled all of them to 11, and somehow this actually ended up working
It is true though, there is no objectively good morality. Let's an age old question, the troley problem, either do nothing and kill everyone or kill a person to save a person. If you think killing a person to save a person is objectively moral good. Then you're wrong. Since while one school of ethics would agree what you did was good, another would say no you're evil (cause you killed someone). All actions have consequence, and it's not the direct consequences that are often judge by people after - and often than not that's where the morality of your actions are weighed. Guy that spared Hitler in WWI? He just didn't want to be a mindless slaughterer. Did he do someting morally good? maybe.
@@Valorhammer If there really is no objectively good morality, then why are there actions that every normal person fundamentally knows is wrong. Murder (which does not include dying through self-defense), sexual assault, theft, etc. Even if you just say that those taboos came out of the creation of society, then why it that avoiding those taboos naturally leads to a better society? If everything is subjective, then shouldn't a society built upon constant atrocities work? History shows that to be unsustainable. Also, you cannot have subjectivity without objectivity. Shades of grey cannot be without the existence of black and white.
I really love his endless dedication to bringing the old world back and nothing else, it would be easy to think about making a world of his own design. But he knows that that world would only be perfect according to his standards and that the only right thing to do, is to bring the old world back. All of it.
Senku is a genius through knowledge and dedication to the nature of science, while most normal genius characters are basically a super-computer pretending to be a human.
ever since I watched Dr Stone, I immediatly fell in love for Senko, and how he has a different vision than others. And is always positive, and able to make up from his mistake, like other great people we have in real life. I say that dr Stone is somewhat a real anime, meaning, geniuses we have in real life (surpprisingly watches anime) can actaully feel the grief, struggle, thoughts Senko has. And conclusion, people, even me can understand him why he does this for the sake of saving humanity and making the world amazing again, without sacrifing anyone else. In short, I REALLY REALLY REALLY love and respect Senko's character.
The best part about anything that Riichirou Intagaki touches is that the characters are guaranteed to be top notch in terms of realisticness when you go past their ridiculous outer shell. To anyone that is enjoying Dr. STONE I highly recommend you to read the manga Eyeshield 21. It has the same writer and is even drawn by Yusuke Murata of One Punch Man fame.
Senku is a good genius character because he is basically a side character moved into the limelight. The best example would be Ritchie from static shock.
Instead of saying that Senku getting promoted from side to main character, I'd say the author just simply told the backstory from different point of view. Senku is the main character from the start, however the prologue (manga chapter 1-15/anime eps 1-5) is narrated by Taiju.
@@maharanient6636 I apologise, I didn't mean that the first part is not his, what i meant was that his "Trope" is often a side character. I get what your saying though, he was never promoted, he was always the main character.
As someone with a good relationship with his parents and an insatiable interest in the sciences, I relate to Senku a lot. Making him possibly my favorite shounen protagonists ever.
He's smart, but not a god. He's charismatic, but doesn't have the Luffy/naruto/Goku "powah to maek frendz wif anywun" aka"I have no reason to like this clod, but there's something about him that makes me listen to and like him, a power, an innate kind dangerous power"
There's a difference between someone being a living supercomputer who can calculate exactly how and when a leaf will fall off of a tree based on the color of the trunk of the tree, and then there is Senku who is an actual genius.
I like how he's not afraid of failure, so many other 'genius' characters always put forth a lot of effort in order to not fail or the idea of them failing isn't even a concern in the first place; personally I just find that to be kinda cheap and it's not entertaining at all. If someone constantly gets everything right, always has the answer, always knows the optimal solution I get the feeling they're akin to a bot, like a Google search gets animated or something. People are interesting because they're flawed and watching them work to overcome or even utilize their flaws to their advantage is entertaining to me, they have depth, colour, vibrancy and more to the point they're relatable.
this anime was magical to me. I dreamed pretty much this EXACT plot 3 days prior to this anime first airing. The only difference being that i had died (couldn't remember how), not turned to stone, and was revived 110 thousand years in the future instead of 3000 ish. The natives of the future were living in the ruins of our civilization and had lost all technology, and they were extremely impressed when i talked about our past world. Then i made a point that i would restore humanity to our former glory using everything i know. It was a hell of a surprise to see my dream made into an anime so close to me having dreamed it. i wish this happened more often.
although i have to say plan spanned centuries, not just a couple months like his. I had first planned to bring us to the iron age (with some period inappropriate techs mixed in, like electricity) and go from there. like if the industrial revolution happened at the same time as the iron age. Didn't have long to plan specifics though, dreams are fleeting and this one ended just when i was about to spring into action. the only thing i had in mind was to create all the most common tools, to create basic machinery to create even better tools. wouldn't be that hard because i was starting from a kind of razed down ruins of a industrial complex. The place those people were living in were similar to levels in half life 2 if they spent 150 further years abandoned (yeah it felt more like it had been some 300 years, not 110 thousand years). so i had plenty of usable metal available
thank you for the complete lack of spoilers, every time I watch one of these, all I can think of is manga spoilers and whether or not they are going to show them. So thank you!
Senku has this Never give up,Can do attitude. This is why we all can relate cuz he is a realistic type of character. Not only that, he is also socialy active to others, funny and he has a sense of morality. The genius he is is a bonus. He also has that villanous face when he is excited/Hyped by his creations or when he get to kinda inslave people for his cause which will also benifit all of them😂. By far, senku and the anime itself is the greatest anime i have seen in 2019 and second is Kemitau no Yaiba.💓🤘
I'll say this as many times as I have to, but character design is just about how the character looks, and how the personality of said character is personified by their appearance. Learn what a word means, before using it incorrectly. What you're describing is a "character study". Where you analyze what makes a character tick, and go over every aspect of their personality, morals, and other personal traits
what i find interesting is from a visual design, i got the complete opposite vibe from him. i haven't watched the show, and a big part of why is that to me, senku's look gave me the impression that he's the kind of character i wouldn't like; that typical smarter than you, progress at all cost, science is the only worth cause kind of character. his facial features are all very sharp, like having almost fangs, the dark lines near his bright red eyes, all things typically used for villainous/morally grey characters. then, he literally has E=MC2 on his shirt right over heart, showing what he values. it's an interesting contrast to what his character actually seems to be from watching this.
They even make a joke in the anime about how he looks like the bad guy. The sharpness of his look contrasted with his character is very interesting to me as well, I really love how he was drawn!
Its also interesting that Senku, even though he is a genius, he is not deus ex machina genius. Not only has he made less than optimal decisions, sometimes he was even off. Or to be precise his science is not always the solution. This show has several genius level characters, but different kinds of genius. E.g. Senku with his scientific knowledge of many things. Gen with his understanding of human psychology. Tsukasa with his intellect. Yes he is very smart. Street smart but also intelligence wise. The fact that simply by deducing the direction in which Senku, Taiju und Yuzuriha left, he knew Senku was making gunpowder shows that he is very smart. The show is good at showing the different kinds of characters being good in their field of expertise. Even Chrome will shine. Chrome will re-inventing things of which Senku doesnt think about, even though he knows about them. Which shows, sometimes Senku mind is a bit too high up in the clouds sometimes. All in all, I love this story. Not only is it different from the typical shonen stuff that I watch, it is also believable in its own way.
Not even kidding just finished catching with all 14 episodes yesterday and absolutely loved the show and You perfectly summed up what I felt about Senku as a character in a much better way than I ever could. So thanks
I just love how senku never needs to explain what he is about to do, he just does them My hero academia they will blab on and on about how and why they’re going to do something simple like punch a guy Whereas Senku will just start making a lightbulb This anime was fantastic at Showing the viewer whats going on which make things way more exciting
I love Senku as a character, he's probably a big reason I immediately loved the anime, That didn't even happen with my #1 favorite anime, Dr Stone just immediately hooked me in and I binged the first season in around 2 days
I know this video is 3y old but also, another apect that I like about Senku isn't specially ass-holish about his knowledge, I mean he did own Chrome when they first met and didn't seem to understand how much Taiju helped him with his muscle, but he's quickly humbled and started to appreciatte everyone by their unique skills. At first appreciating Taiju and Stukasa's strength but also people with different types of knowledge after he understood what true science is like Chrome's logic and quick thinking skills or Gen's social inteligence and trickery. So by the middle of season 1 we already have a Senku wich understands that his enciclopedic knowledge isn't the only knowledge that there is.
What I like about senku is that he doesn't have super powers, he manages to use his knowledge as a form of power. He seems like a real person and his character isnt stuck behind the genius label. I started to like his character much more when Tusuka (I don't know how to spell his name) asked him to give up science and he declined, then we got the flashback on his origin.
You won't know this if you haven't read the manga, - this isn't a spoiler - but Senku's dad is the best, most badass dad I've ever seen for what he did. I can't wait to see all of Dr. Stone animated; it's such a fun and informative piece of entertainment.
i love senku. only gods say they are not gods 🥴 in my 21 yrs of life senku is the only anime character that makes me truely respect on the highest level.
You would love Hiruma Yoichi from Eyeshield 21 then. Written by the same author, I suspect that he was the inspiration for Senku. He was a genius, but a relatable type of genius. That's why I loved Senku so much, it was because he reminded me of Hiruma. They lose, they need others to realize their projects and get it wrong. Also, even if they started with high intelligence, they need to work hard and they do. It's my favorite type of character, but it's very rare and difficult to pull off. They need to be morally gray and it's so interesting. Similar to them there is Toua from One Outs.
The amazing implications of Game Theory is that science without morals isn't scientifically founded. Game Theory is the study of strategy in cooperation and competition. These "genius" characters should learn the philosophies put forth by the study of Game Theory. It puts forth the philosophy that the most beneficial outcomes to you are ones that are empathetic to both your partners and opponents. especially over time. but, it is important to not be a pushover. Senku is able to play to the tune of those he meets that have shady intentions, which is really cool. Senku certainly seems to exhibit Game Theory philosophy time and time again.
Senku's biggest weakness is that he never lies about science. Honestly I don't like that as that, as knowledge can make or break a battle but I do admire that trait of his
Not only is Senku a good guy, but he's generally doesn't act like it on the surface.. He puts on the act of being the rational genius til you see him do something you know is something he did for moral reasons. He generally plays off doing something noble as something rational even though it's the opposite.
I think the main reason Senku is different from other geniuses is father, byakuya. Byakuya shows real, good parenting you don't see in most animes (which is sad), Byakuya himself, is caring, upbeat with extremely good moral. Byakuya, throughout the years after the petrification still thinks and plans on what he can do for Senku and his trust on Senku is something you don't see often even in real life. Senku is a genius, yes, but the one who's raised him to be a good individual is Byakuya.
lesson of the day: an likeable genius character can't be always be the racional or logic centered one, a bit of personality and morals can spice things up and make the genius character be less focused on only having a genius trait
Haven’t watched the video yet so apologies if I end up repeating what you say: one of the first things that occurred to me about Senku is that he is actually not that different from a typical shonen protagonist: Doesn’t know when to quit? Check Seemingly uninterested in romance? Check Wants to ‘save everyone’ no matter how unlikely it seems? Check Tendency to put his friends’ well-being above everything else, including ‘logical thinking’? Check Just really strong set of morals in general? Check RIDICULOUSLY passionate about his favourite thing in life? Check Generally emotionally driven? Check (Also he loves ramen but I don’t know if that counts... ^^’) You get my point. Really the one thing that makes him stand out is, to nobody’s surprise, his intelligence. When you go back to my point about ‘ridiculously passionate’, a typical shonen protagonist would be passionate about, let’s say, football, if you’re watching a football anime, or adventure, or whatever the subject of the anime is. The fact that Senku’s passion is... science of all things, is, in my opinion, the biggest AND one of the _only_ things that separate him from the shonen protag archetype... But man what a refreshing twist that is! Of course I don’t mean that all shonen dudes are the same, they’re really not, but I really like how Senku still manages to fit the typical criteria while being so unique.
