As a guy whose only been doing construction for a year, I'm so glad I have a boss that checks on my work and tells me when I am doing it wrong. Construction is not rocket science, but it is 1 million "little tricks" (aka common sense things) that you need to know.
And then THE CODE steps in. THE CODE may, or may not, be common sense, but you must memorize and follow the entirety of it because there is a prick (also known as the inspector) who will evaluate your work based on THE CODE. Never mind that it's a custom home, and the home owner is happy, and the architect and engineer are happy, you WILL have a damn receptacle installed in your fancy marble counter-top. It's to protect children. The inspector does not care that you both are in your 70's and have no children, thou shalt follwest THE CODE. But don't worry; the code updates every 3 years so you can never truly understand and come to terms with it.
Or until the GC hires a college educated idiot with a degree in construction management that royally screws up everything. Because their 'book' says what you're doing is wrong.
@@brianvinzant1893zero insulation is code in Arkansas because apparently -10° "isNt ThAt CoLD" because we're in the South. I love regulation keeping me safe and saving me money. Rather than no law, and just hiring an inspector to tell me the pros and cons of a house.

After having to scrape off and repaint the top of a chimney on a fully extended 32' ladder on a wet decline with wasps flying around my head I sure can appreciate that bosses that don't push for safety measures are awful.
A $200 budget to buy tools? A company I worked for had a tool list for each trade. They didn't spend a dime on tools to do the work they bid. Who ever heard of a company buying tools to do their work?
