As we age, our cheeks "drop" and add weight to the bottom of the face. I've always known I have a long oval face with a pointy chin. But now that I'm older my face is more oval because the extra weight in my lower face has eliminated my pointed chin. Things do change!
Somewhat off-topic, but speaking of bad haircuts, long ago I went for a trim, and the gal cut my long hair "uphill" such that I lost 13 inches of hair. Another gal there corrected the lopsided "trim," making it even (straight across), but by that time, my waist-length hair was now shoulder-length. I have cut my own hair ever since.
@@user-hx7mi7ml8u Trust has been blown. How 'braindead' does a person have to be to cut long straight hair at such a severe angle as that? Who has earned my trust? Should I have to pay $100 for a simple haircut in order to find a stylist that is deemed 'trustworthy' at an expensive salon? I'm not going to pay that for a simple, straight trim. If they can't standardly be trusted at $30, then I'll cut my own hair, and they can quit.
Yea, salons seem to LOVE doing their own thing, even when I bring pictures of me and of the back of my hair, they STILL eff it up and expect their tip. Believe me, I got a better haircut at the $20 haircut salon, rather than the $100 one. They are MASTER STYLIST😂😂😂😂
I have an oval face and part to to the side. I have a long Bob... but had longer hair at one point with a side bang. It really did change the look of my face shape like you explained in this video. I have thin fine hair and I'm currently growing my bangs out for a blunt shorter Bob about the length of your hair cut. BTW I love how you talk about no matter what your face shape is you're still beautiful ❤❤
Oblong face here, and I'd NEVER go without some bangs. Sarah Jessica Parker would look less witchlike with some bangs. I've always wondered why the center part and no bangs with her, especially now that she's aging. Bangs can definitely soften the long face.
@ElizabethNoelleK sorry..I've always low key thought that for years..not to be cruel at all. I've never said it out loud even. Not really important enough I guess. No bangs are unflattering on a lot of people especially as they age..just fact.
It depends on the proportions of the face. sometimes the forehead is longer snd sometimes the chin is longer, although the overall face shape is long for both. People whose length is more in the lower part are not flattered by bangs because it makes the longer part look even longer when you cover the forehead. Bangs look best when your forehead is the longer part (or at least proportional).
No one has explained face shapes better than this post, for me. I had a young lady telling me my face is more rectangular than round and since then, I have looked at myself differently. I never liked round.
The remark about confidence is spot on. Excellent point (and photos) of how age and weight gain or loss can change a face shape, and how to factor in hair type. I have discovered the magical and almost surgical benefits of softness at the forehead and more length at the jawline to improve the side view as I become more "seasoned."
Your videos are always so well produced. Educational, entertaining, graphics that enhance but not too many, perfect pace and seamless editing. Most of all, you are adorable, not overly chatty, you get right to the point without missing the important details. And you have beautiful hair! Thank you for this kind of content!
Omg that is such a sweet and meaningful compliment! I am so happy to hear you appreciate the videos. I always strive everyone to find a way to balance all the things out to keep it fun while explaining the importance of things. You're comment made my day ❤️❤️
The amount of space between the top of the hairline and the top of the head is important too. With a round face, and not much visual space above the hairline a centre part with hair hanging down is very unflattering. I look best with some height on top either a half or full updo with some tendrils for softness. As you age you definately want to pull the eye up, not down. These long centre part hairstyles don't really look good on very many people, in my opinion. Agree about bangs on round faces being a no no. Would like to see a video with normal people not celebrities. Thanks for the video.
Yes, I completely agree with you that you're a combo of heart & oval...and I realized that so am I! This video was very helpful for me. I love your current hairstyle and will bring screen captures of it to my stylist. I need to find a back view of it, so some research is in order. I used to have your hairstyle (see thumbnail pic of me) but I've grown my hair to way past my shoulders, boob length (🤪) now...plus the hairstyle in my pic is one that my husband cut during Covid when I grew out my grey hair. Maybe I should have him cut it again, he did a great job. Have a great weekend. -Lisa
Hi Summer ! Love all of your videos, former hairstylist here. I am oblong but now mid 50s I’m getting some jowls and lower face and a little extra chin/neck weight- any suggestions, I love all lengths !
Dove volumizing dry shampoo will give you loads of volume for days - I have very long fine hair and it makes it look like I have twice as much hair as I actually do. ❤
You are a mix of a round and a heart shape in my opinion. I always believed to have an oval shape, but I learned I‘m more of an oblong face shape. Thanks for all the tipps in your video! :)
Its nice to see this video i have round face but .now my neck is stary to be older im 70 but not old lady look 70..i like the pixie but wih little length snd width at crown..i have fine hair thin now .
Great video , thank you. I’m about to go get my hair cut , my curly hair in this Mediterranean humid weather is driving me nuts. I got some good ideas from this video. 👏
I was always told that I had an oval shaped face, but I'm older now, and a hair stylist recently told me that I have a pear shape face. As depressed as that has made me feel she was right. So, what hair styles should I go for?
So helpful! Thank you! Have a wonderful weekend. God Bless from Diane in Oklahoma!❤ Your face shape looks like heart shaped to me. You have beautiful hair!
This is very helpful. I could never figure out my shape. Would you please do a video on why conditioner makes fair fall post wash? As soon as I apply conditioner to my hair after wash I lose so many strands of hair. What ate some tips to avoid this?
@@SummerBeautyc Does collagen powder also create more/ enhance regrowth of body hair ? 😬 Or somehow only affects the hair on the scalp? What side-effects did you notice after long-time use of collagen powder? I'm guessing it also depends on what type and amount of hair and body hair you have..?
I didn't like this one as much as I was hoping to because I was really looking for more ideas for my squares face shape and it went through Square so fast that I blinked and missed it and had to rewind. And then didn't really get any information except don't have straight across bangs. I guess I'll wait until there's a hair for square Faces video
Great video! I have a haircutting question: Are the cutting techniques for getting a U shape in the back and getting a haircut that's straight across in the back similar? The reason I'm asking is that I went to get a much needed haircut today and like all the other times I've gone to my stylist I wanted it cut straight across (which she has done every other time). Today it looks more like a U shape. On top of that the pieces on each side that would be my front pieces if I pulled them forward are now different lengths. This is exactly why I left the last stylist so how do I keep ending up with a U shape when I want it cut straight across? Are they just in their own little world cutting away at my hair?
@@dianevioletta1408 Well, I'm glad I'm not the only one this happens to but I'm also sorry that you ended up with the wrong haircut. 😔 I just had my stylist cut off two inches yesterday. If I want this U shape fixed that means losing another three inches at least! I'm just going to take another break from getting my hair cut but this is really frustrating!
@@ElizabethNK24 I've considered cutting my own hair many times and am seriously getting closer to just doing it. I watched Justin Hickox's video on how to cut your own hair so I might try that when I'm ready for another haircut. I've already been cutting my own bangs for a while since they kept getting butchered at the salon. And yes, it's extremely hard to find a stylist who will just cut what you ask her to. I had one stylist who would show me how much she thought needed to be cut off, I'd agree to it and then she still cut off way more! What's the point of even asking if you're just going to cut whatever you want, anyway?
@@ElizabethNK24 I cut my hair here and there too after watching videos. I don’t like the way my stylist cuts my layers so I cut them myself and was happy with the results. I just cut some curtain bangs myself too. I like the way he colors my hair but even so, i just colored my roots myself yesterday and saved a ton of money.
I always find for a straight line it's best to cut the sides behind the shoulders, even with the back. You might have a bit of a soft angle if you wear your hair in front of your shoulders, but it does keep that nice straight line if everything is pushed back. If you do face framing you're still going to get some sort of curve most likely just because you would be softening the corners.
I have always had a slim heart shape face until a few years ago. Due to some medical issues, I was on prednisone & my weight ballooned out. Now I have a round face or heart/round shape face. I’ve worn textured bangs for 30 years. I have a flat head & a deep frown line between my brows that my bangs camouflage. A few years ago I had to move to NC to take care of my parents who had just moved to NC. I made an observation about bangs. I’ve noticed that bangs are not at all popular in the South or the East Coast. But they are very popular on the West Coast. I see women who really need bangs for their face but it’s like bangs are frowned upon. Is there some hidden Ivy League rule I am missing regarding bangs?
Also Mila Kuniz's face changed from round in her honey days, like Selena's, but now is more oval. Her cheeks lost their volume & he chin appears more pronounced. I guess that demonstrates what you were saying about it possibly changing throughout your life.
I have zero face structure - like no strong cheekbones or jaw. They are all just like blah. and a short neck and wavy/curly hair. What would you recommend?
I think I have pear shaped face and I hate it. I cannot style my hair properly because my forehead is smaller than my cheeks area. My hair is curly but straighter at the top. And I cannot wear bangs. I straighten it. Because I have pear shape, I try to puff my hair at the top and would like it to drop thinner down below. I will always have my hair long, straight, parted in the middle and past the shoulder because I believe longer hair makes you look younger, always.
No one is addressing some of us have a peanut shaped head small on the top and large on the bottom, upside down lightbulb. What about that? I don’t want to get fillers in my temples.
I only count 3 sections with those four lines. Just sayin' because, remembering your words, when I looked in my mirror at my oblong face I struggled to find these "four sections" 🤣
Heart shape~ I would say you have a heart shaped face. That being said, I'm wrong a lot, sooooo =) there's that. *Okay, so now I just watched the beginning, where you traced the dotte dlines around your face, so I'd say oval-ish...but still heart shaped. Heyyyy~ I got it right! or at least saw what you see, eh? Not bad, for a casual observer. Great post, loved it~ & I think I'm a squarish oval. Especially now that I'm older (58) & a bit jowly- which is fine. I simply wear glasses w/a bit of cateye to help pull that face up, same goes for makeup tricks & such. I agree w/you in that every face has beauty, character, & so much potential for having fun w/hair & makeup. This was fun!Samantha in AZ
ty for including triangle, nobody does!!!!!!!!!!!!!! (but, sorry, minnie driver is a triangle and does not look like a pear) edit: lol ok it was 30 seconds, but it's still the most advice i've ever gotten... still no idea how long i should go for
I think Selena Gomez has a shape of her own. In her younger days, definitely more rounded. Now, there's too much muscle in the lower jaw to be considered round, as your cheeks will be the standout feature of a round-faced lass. Dunno about this one. Maybe a soft squeart?
Hi Summer. This was fascinating! Initially, I thought you have a heart-shaped face, but as you decoded, I think you infact have a combination of heart and oval🙂 . Great video, as always. I love all the fun scenes 😁.
I think your face is a soft square. You are almost an oval but when you move and speak, I see the jawline more. As you age, your face may become more square.
