We finally made it to the south of the North Island of New Zealand.
We spent the night by the Owhiro Bay (freedom camp) woke up early to try our luck and spot some seals on the red rocks trail.

The beautiful coloured shells on the beach you seen are significant to the Māori culture and people and have been for many centuries, the bright blue parts are carved out and placed into traditional maori carvings you will see on some marae & also jewellery!!

You'll have to come back to Wellington in winter, you can see the whole colony there at Red Rocks. I've seen about thirty seals on one visit before. Since you're heading down south, another good spot for them is on the west coast, just south (west) of Westport.

Nice to see that you made it to my city: Wellington. Does this mean you are spending Christmas in Wellington? Hopefully you are going down to the South Island. If you think some of the scenery has been nice in the North Island... well, prepare to be blown away with amazement as you travel down deep into the Wild South. Oh, if you are taking your van on the Cook Straight Ferry, a 3.5 hour trip to the South Island, keep an eye out for more seals sunning themselves. Cheers guys.

My late dad was studying in Wellington a long time ago ... According to him, Wellington was always windy that they called it ' Windy Wellington ' ....
