Hey Greg and Jenny, can you make a video about controlling nerves before a game? I feel like this is a thing many players struggle with, however theres not a lot of videos covering this topic, and personally it’s a big deal for me and a lot of players as you play a lot worse under pressure. Thanks!

i think it was winston churchill who said, the british and the americans are two peoples divided by a common language. i thought i was familiar with most british/american vocabulary differences. (i apologize if you're not allowed to say 'churchill' on youtube-- was his statue removed?). but i thought i'd tell you guys, this is my first experience with 'knock up', which in america means, unambiguously: to get a girl pregnant. now that i think about it, god only knows what a girl in UK will say to me if i ask if she wants to 'warm up'. great channel. cheers!

Great warm up tips. I think most players tend to do the exercises while standing in the same general spot on court when they really should be moving around and making micro adjustments. Anyways, I've got another video idea for you that i hope you two can go in depth on. Now, we all practice the six diagonal corners of footwork. It is ingrained in players to follow up on their shots taking the shortest path. However, there are a lot of shots players will do to throw their opponents off. For example, from a rear court corner, you do a cross drop. Naturally you will cover the full diagonal, passing the center of the court to cover the possible straight net shot by the opponent as that is the shortest straight line. But a lot of opponents will do a cross net shot as a reverse psychology mechanism or to add additional footwork to you. So, then the line to cover the reply is not 45 degrees from your corner, but more like 30 degrees of the diagonal. The distance to cover is actually less! If you as a player know the opponent's tendencies, couldn't you take advantage of this shot being played by the opponent, and take a shorter line to the shuttle? On the opposite end of the equation, similarly, the cross net shot used by the opponent gets used SO OFTEN, that it almost loses its effectiveness. I think I see a lot of players do this almost robotically because they've been trained to do it so often. Would it not be better to use this shot sparingly, or do a longer hold and actually watch their opponents' footwork before doing the cross net shot? The fact that it is done without regard actually helps slower/tired players coming from the corner because they haven't yet traveled the full 45 degree diagonal and now only see their trajectory reduced to the 30 degree diagonal (thus helping them out). Thoughts on this? Would be interested to see if you two can incorporate this and other shots into a game psychology video in the future.

Good advice. I am always mortified when I see players, even experienced players, take to the court and immediately start whacking high clears at each other with no prior warm-up. I coached players, as a basic rule, to warm-up from the net moving backward toward the rear court with the serve and return saved til last (as this they wanted fresh when the game starts).

@@BadmintonInsight Well, the general term "warm-up" works everywhere. A lot of people probably think that the final court warm up is the only one you would do in a match/tournament and don't know that you have already put in a much longer physically demanding warm up prior to arriving on court.
