I think the key with these tricks is to make sure you don’t go “over” and that you fall on the same side you jumped. It’s scary if you have a tendency to want to go over but i think if you have one fall that’s “topside” you’ll get it real quick afterwards.
You need to focus like a fish brain... the base is the fish brain foot... the front foot its only for support.... and try not to bend yout front too much.... and them u see the diference .... love this rail gonna try to build one !!!
Wouldn't this be switch top acid for you though?? I think you'd lace that easily with your regular stance. That said, there's nothing wrong with learning stuff switch xD
That’s the point exactly. I don’t have the skill to topside with my right but it’s my “natural” soul. I’m trying to see if I can learn it so my topsides are stronger
@@BacktoBlading Ah fair enough. I've been working on switch tricks a lot lately including topsides.. mostly doing those on a grind box with round coping though =)
Adding some non-slip material to the bottoms of the feet of the rail will stop it from moving at all when you grind. It makes a huge difference. Great vid!
I learned a lot on those type of rails but it was some steel rails we stole from fences. You definitely got this, using your arms is a good way to keep your balance. It helps keep your weight evenly distributed. At first I was scared to approach it Straight on because of the wooden leg of the rail, but I got used to it.
We didn’t even consider it tbh, it wasn’t possible because nobody could do it. There was a brief period when they were called “oversoul” or “overacid” on ledges/coping
Far side for me is if you lock "topside" on a rail, but not really with your frame on top, instead going too far. So it looks more like a regular grind, just jumped into it from the "wrong" side.
Something ive learned ..get a stool or a chair..and use it for stability ..have the stool over the p rail..jump on the rail ..while holding the chair for balance...it will help you get the feel of the lock ..then rest on the chair less ad less..then remove it ..then stall the grind...than roll into the grind..thats my progression for learning a new grind.. it helps to take out the scare factor.
'Farside' tricks are still a thing but I think they refer now to a trick on the opposite side of a wide obstacle. E.g a ledge with 2 sides but you jump from one side, over the ledge and then land in a grind on the other side of the ledge. I always knew these to be 'darkside' tricks growing up but I think 'dark' tricks have gone now and have been replaced as 'far' tricks. Just as 'far' tricks have been replaced by topside tricks. Also, I've always found with topside tricks it feels like I lift my foot onto the rail/ledge, instead of 'jumping onto' the rail/ledge. With normal soul tricks it's a battle of jumping onto the grind and worrying about how much weight you have to apply over the rail. With topside tricks it's the opposite you have the battle of putting too much weight over the rail. To counter this I always found a good way to think of it was instead of 'jumping into' the grind, you jump and then 'lift' and tuck your foot underneath you to land in the topside. I wish I was there with you to explain it better but watching you in this it's like you're jumping over the rail to do a soul, rather than accepting your weight should stay on the same side and you'll be in a topsoul. It's why you kept going over the rail too much. Does this make sense?
I built the same kind of prail. The cool thing is if you have a small section of 2x4 mounted on the wall, the rail will hang flush to the wall. Love the content!
I know this one's kinda old, but happy to see you trying rails. I've got a similar rail I made like 3 years ago before I moved intoy current apt and still have yet to try it out😢. Gonna have to change that
@@BacktoBlading I see thank you. You were doing well on the subrosa thought. I have the madd-gear p- rail and that one is too low. The subrosa may be the next step for me..good luck with your topsides 👍
niiiice i built one of these a while back after seeing it in a video (i forgwt which one,) I made it with steel pipe and plywood but this is heaps more simple. Had the goal to learn switchups which really helped. Also forces you to commit because of the leg.
Your doing so well, I love seeing you try new grinds, very inspiring :) When I was learning Top Acids on a rail I did what you did and was all over the place with my back foot. So I tried to learned a Top Soul to force my shoulders into a better position. After a number of stalls and grinds I them did a Top Acid just by tweaking my lead foot. I hope to see you have this trick in your back of tricks
I just got "back to blading" today. Good lookin out on these videos helping with the inspiration. I got new wheels and bearing on my old Salomon ST 90s. Felt amazing just rolling around today.
massive respect iv just got some new skates so me and the OG's have started meeting on a thursday nights. This is totally what my life has been missing and im so glad i searched and found you :) happy skating man
