easy answer: don’t

The common +2 energy one goes on morsels. They're going to be eaten anyways so the drain doesn't matter, it's just 2 energy and 4 incidental damage. The lifesteal one is for your big unit that's facing off against the boss. I don't think it's very good though. The rare multistrike one is for doing silly things with. I had a run where I had energy from relics (for playing units), and I gave it no-consume and holdover and played it every turn. I ended up with over 40 emberdrain stacks and 15 multistrike; Seraph just melted. I've seen other people do similar things with gain-energy cards (like the other emberdrain card). Playing it fairly is pretty meh though. Basically, don't give yourself emberdrain unless it won't matter. Either because the unit won't survive, or the fight is over, or your deck can run just fine on zero energy.

If you run several Perils (which gives you free energy) and mostly cheap or zero cost spells you can ignore emberdrain entirely and just cycle free strong buff cards with no downside. I’ve had runs with 50+ emberdrain on a unit and no negative impact on the deck.

A lot of umbra spells costs X Umbra is an interesting clan that either really needs support or messes up the playstyles of other because they sort of forces you to play on their style if you don't want to clog your hand with useless cards

Envenom is one of those cards that makes half of your Other cards better, but not enough better to feel worth a lost draw and some energy most of the time

I think upgrading Envenom makes it much more likely to actually get into play but it never seems to make the upgrade threshold

@@ClickBeetleTV That goes for a lot of cards! But yeah, Envenom is super niche. About the only time I want to see it is if I've got a Shiv build going (not often) AND I have Snecko Skull (even less often). If it cost 1 energy unupgraded it would be a much easier pick. The upgrade would have to be making it innate since adding 2 poison per attack is probably too strong.
