Complaining about the thickness of a 600m dive watch is pretty silly.
@jeffsussman9310
@jeffsussman9310 2 года назад
I was close to buying this, the 19mm lug width on a 14+ thick watch sort of bugged me but was indeed pretty comfortable when I tried it on at the Omega boutique. Great value, no question though. The original 42mm with the 2500 movement was about the same thickness as this 39.5 and had 20mm lugs. I believe that was the sweet spot in terms of proportions. Obviously nowhere near as nice of a movement, the modern movement really is amazing. Great review!

Specs are wrong... Thickness is 14.2mm(not 15mm) and lug width is 19mm not 20mm.

Nice review. I have owned the blue version for four years. Very happy with it so far, ticks my high end diver slot in the collection and best diver I've owned for my thin wrist. Probably my favorite bracelet.

It’s a great watch, that is equally as good as a Rolex Submariner. But as for the quality , I personally think this watch is head and shoulders above Rolex to be fair. This would be the only dive watch I’d need in my collection, and I’m looking to pull the trigger on the black one. The blue variant looks equally impressive.

14.3 not 15mm thick. Actually 40mm not 39.5 wears thinker than the new Tudor Pro.

Dive watches should be really big, ie, 37-39mm 40mm+ is only for the giant 8 inch wrists.

Sounds silly (to 'enthusiasts') but the only reason ièd pick a Pantet Ocean over a standard Seamaster is for the 'linear indicies' shape. ...heh....do prefer them over 'dots'. Subjective. Had the 300m had 'liner indicies'.....ièd look a tht 30M ..save myself about $10000 :) The claimed 600m racting and the helium escape valvueÉ Thatès just 'eye candyÈ IMHO....featuares no one need since NO ONE DIVES\\ :) that owns a 'luxury Swiss Dive watch'. Serious deep divers donèt wear luxry dive watches--thatès DUMB. They wear a 'digital wrist computer' speciicaly designed for 'deep diving'.....and i thinkt he deep dive depth numbers are bogus since there isnèt even one YT video showigng any 'YT watch rever at 599m' :) NOr any film footage from Omega or Rolex or Tudor or Tag....etc.. gotta wonder why not :)) ÈDive wtches' are simply 'sport wataches' some people wear everyday.

I suspect the thickness has something to do with 600m WR as the pressure at 600m is way more than at 300m.
@randomnameindeed
@randomnameindeed 2 года назад
Also the display back. Omega should drop the display back on its divers, it's not necessary. The movement is fantastic technically speaking, but it's not ornate enough to merit a display back if you ask me. I've owned an Aqua Terra and I rarely looked at the movement.

I like its looks much more than the regular Seamaster 300 (anyone with astigmatism understands why skeletal hands are evil). Three issues here, though: (1) As you mentions, very thick (2) Pointless date with microscopic display (3) No 12 o'clock registration in lume.

I hope Omega will make next generation PO thinner. I prefer everything on this watch to the Diver 300m, especially the bracelet, I just can’t handle the thickness. A 39.5mm PO with a thickness below 13.5mm, a dream watch haha

Great review, but are you sure about those measurements, it’s supposed to be 14,3 mm (or 14,1 according to TGV) thick (not 15) and the lugs are 19 mm (not 20) - of that I’m certain as I own both the watch and several fitting straps at 19.

Great review Guy. I didn't even realize Omega made a sub 40mm PO. Omega makes so many pieces now though. I have had my eye on an Aqua Terra to compliment my 15 year old Seamaster 300m, but haven;t held one yet in person. Nice piece - something about the proportions reminds me of a Seiko Mini Turtle.

This watch does not wear as thick as the numbers suggest, and I find this true of most Omega. The way they are able to break apart the case helps with this visually. I found this to wear much more comfortably than a ceramic sub. edit: I somehow get the feeling they will discontinue the 39.5 model soon because it overlaps too much with the Seamaster. Also with the release of the bigger PO's it seems more likely.

4:45 I have a 2020 orange bezel Planet Ocean and it has a bigger 5 stage micro adjustment like the Diver 300m. The best micro adjustment on the market for me. I use it every day and you don't have to take the watch off to adjust. Just open the clasp and push the button

This watch in a thinner form factor without the display back, without the date and without the helium escape valve would constitute the perfect diver. Shame that Omega refuses to do that. They always have to add so many useless features that make their watches more fussy looking, it's time for Omega to learn that less is more.
@mountainhobo
@mountainhobo 2 года назад
Yep. Look at Omegas from the 1950s. Amazingly clean looking, beautiful watches. Now look at Omega's dress watches today. Seems like they can't figure out what a dress watch is, and keep sticking superfluous nonsense on them. They lost their aesthetic. But not to worry, I am sure they will be a 120th "special limited edition" of the moon watch coming soon. They should just change the name of the company to the signature scream by Archie Luxury, "Maaaan on the #$@%$#% Mooooon".

Ive been wearing the 39.5 PO for a while now. The thicker proportions give it a more masculine stance on wrist, and yet doesn't look or feel thick at all. I think the thickness was intended. The HE valve is distinctly omega. I actually like that its there, on my PO at least.

Thanks Guy. Like you love this watch. Like you I just wish it was thinner. 15mm is way too thick. For most of us, this watch will only ever be a desk diver.
@Daavi85
@Daavi85 2 года назад
I'm a fan of the PO but I'm biased as well, to me the best looking and proportioned is still the original, I have a 42mm Planet Ocean 2500 matte black dial/bezel with white tri arabic's " open 6 and 9 font", as great as the newer models are they've traded the more subdued tool diver aesthetic for a much shinier blingy look, there's a certain elegance to the original that more harkens back to the classic Seamaster's of the late 60's while still being of modern construction, Omega make great quality watches but there's nothing new they offer that could tempt me to trade my PO 2500, it's been a great watch that I've come to only appreciate more over the years and will continue to enjoy for many more years to come.

Man, I love this watch. I like that at a watch around the 40mm range, can be had that's this chunky. Subjectively speaking, I like a fair amount of "heft," with most of my watches. Especially my divers. Which makes the PO line, right up my alley. Great content, as always Guy. I still firmly believe, that you produce some of the best timepiece productions, anywhere. I can definitely see the maturation, of the channel. Thanks so much for all of your hard work

I considered the planet ocean but ended up going with the SM300 Heritage, just for the rapid timezone change function. I think this is a beautiful watch. For me the heritage, is like a false GMT. I wanted my first luxury watch to be a stylish, durable, daily driver. And I knew I wanted a classic no date watch as my first. I can wear it anywhere, travel with it, and with the function it’s great to reset on the go. I love it.

Great review, Guy. The problem with Rolex is that they came up with the classic design in the submariner. I feel sorry for anyone trying to compete with Rolex in this space. While the Omega is a better value, in the end, Rolex wins. You wouldn’t trade your Sub for the Planet Ocean plus $5k - in a few days you’d wish you still had the Submariner. On the other hand, and your point in this video, is that the Omega is a great value, a stunning watch and if you want to get a top end Diver without paying Submariner prices, the Planet Ocean is AWESOME and the purchaser will love it! Thanks again for the great review.

With Omega I feel like I'm getting a quality watch. With Rolex I'm getting a quality watch that doubles as an asset class. Given a choice between the two to buy at retail is a no brainer, but I dont love Rolex enough to buy at gray market prices.

Well, remove the value retention/appreciation equation from the picture. And assuming both Omega and Rolex will depreciate in value the same way. Then I am sure nobody will argue in favor of rolex like they do now. (only negative is the thickness )
