Another MK7 Golf R making over 500whp on stock engine. We just wrapped up this MK7 Golf R with a remote tune with EQT. This is running EQT Vortex XL turbo, and we tune it on both pump gas and ethanol.

Love the channel. You guys make some great content! Quick question, on a APR Stage 2+ MK7R, would swapping out APR’s down-pipe for that CTS’s cat-less DP cause any issues, and would there be any performance gains?

This was a CTS downpipe and maybe some but not as much. The APR downpipe has the cast 3.5" upper as well.

I have a 2014 Audi A4 2.0T and want to make about 450whp. I can do the tuning with HPtuners, it's a Flex Fuel car so it has decent injectors plus I have a methanol injection kit for it. What would be the cheapest turbo that can do it?

Res delete stock mufflers. I think it still would have gained. CTS has a 3.5 cast upper piece and the car further back. This was 3" and a small car close to turbo.

This is exactly why I chose to go catless on my mk7r. Is the Vortex XL too harsh on a stock unopened ea888.3?

Not really. The ea888.3 can hold roughly 450ft lbs of torque before launching a rod. Turbo has a bit more in it but if you’re gonna push it then yeah you’d have to build it but something like this… you’d be fine for a good while. I had the vortex xl on my mk6 gli that I built. Unfortunately having to sell it as I’m done with the car. 3rd engine destroyed and I’ve had enough with sketchy tuners. Moving on to the mqb platform hopefully. But this turbo definitely woke up the car and turned it to a whole different level of crazy. Spools very quickly given it’s based off an is38. I had no complaints and would 100% put it on my next build if I get a mk7 or 8v.

I'm truly not a VW fanboi. I own an IS38 GLI and it's pretty sweet. I am thinking a MK8R would be a BA DD though. Even stock turbo those things are quick.

Well most aftermarket downpipes have 3.5" upper downpipe section that reduce to 3". So if that's what you're referring too, I'd say near none.

@@COMotorsports thinking of CTS vs Trackslag or similar....so many move to a 4" on hybrid or larger turbo in conjunction with higher flow exhaust. Take 3" catless w/stock exhaust vs 4" catless into 3.5" mid-pipe into a dump...would have to be some improvement right?

@@05pharmd 3" can straight exhaust can handle a lot of power. At 500whp not sure how much gains you'd see going bigger at that power level. But I haven't test to back to back to know your answer.

@@COMotorsports factory is 2.5" though...caveated in this situation due to desire to keep very quiet under most driving conditions. Im G25-660 full E, 3" DP... going to 4" with cutout ahead of stock exhaust. Hopefully will see 10-15 whp minimum over the 3" with stock exhaust.

I have heard from my old local VW/AUDI APR/UM/Unitronic shop that the stock rods and/or transmission's limits were about 450 lb/ft of torque and they would tune their customer's MK7 Rs to about that when using ethanol for fuel and with larger LPFP and MPI injection setups.

The main differences between the R/S3 engine and the GTI/A3 is the compression ratio which is 9.3:1 versus 9.6:1 in the GTI/A3. This allows the Rs to accept a little bit more boost. It also has different cam profiles on the exhaust side.

Run, log, flash... Rinse and repeat until it's dialed. How long that takes will depend on the setup.

And around 500/540 at the crank is what people are getting on a stage 3, with a better turbo. Whats the mk7 you turned to get 500+ at the wheels buddy?

yes but honeslty you'll only be able to use that power for high speed rolls unless you have every single suspension and mounts mods + very aggressive tires. Might be able to put it down in 2nd then

The only relevant numbers to me is when the vehicle is running the fuel it will regularly be using. If this is going to be a sleeper, it will be running the streets, and it's just a bad idea to primarly run overpriced fuel for daily drives. So, the true numbers of the car is with pumpgas, which means below 500rwhp.
