Love everything you've done for the community. Really appreciate the push against the myths of nutrients and the awful advice of "feed once every 3 days" as a solution or dumping chemicals to treat symptoms instead of addressing the source. I'm definitely guilty of comparison and still consider myself a rookie but my clown and a couple softies are over 8 years old and started in a 10 gallon then a 20 gallon and looking great and I think they will do great in my new 40g for another 8+ years with all the things ive learned from BRS, WWC, and TG.

Hey Ryan, I'm the guy who sent you the custom knife many years ago as a thank you for your contribution to the hobby. Your award is well deserving. This year has been quite humbling in reefing. I lost my 13 year+ old tank due to a apex eb832 bar going bad when I was out of town (no warning, no nothing). It was beyond heart breaking, then I learned Terrence lost his tank too. The thing is I was so close to archiving my real goal. A truly self sustaining tank that just did it's thing. Fed it's self, looked awesome (to me at least) and required very little intervention. Short of having to clean the glass and top off a water change res I reached this goal. I had talked to you once about a Algae turf scrubber roller mat and I truly think that may be the thing of the future. Only you can make that a reality imo aside from DIY options. Something I wanted to share with you is when I came home to the most god awful smell and was heart broke. I replaced the EB32 and my tank cleaned it's self in just a mater of days. I actually didn't even do a water change and just let it naturally balance it's self out. I couldn't remove all the fish but it didn't mater. My micro support system was so strong it recovered from a full crash. I thought about your failure with the 360 in your house, and Terrence. Unlimited budgets, tons of knowledge but still... humbling failure. However, now that i'm left with a tank that just has copepods, Tunicates and Bristol worms. My rockwork has never looked better. I traveled to Hawaii and Florida and was really amazed at how barren or single style coral the reefs really are and how much space the individual corals really need to thrive . I really think highlighting a single species per tank is the direction I personally want to go. I always seen you or marks rose tanks and just thought they were gorgeous. Or the tanks at the Dallas Aquarium where they highlighted regions. So I guess what i'm saying is we evolve. At first we want it all.. and by wanting it all we kinda eventually set our selves up for failure because it's not harmonious. It's a constant power struggle. They can look great but require tons of intervention, for me it's just to much work. I desire peace and harmony and if I can get that with autonomy, then It's a success in my book. In closing, I'm not around so much anymore on the forums and all that but, wish you nothing but the best. You deserve a peaceful and harmonious life.

I have a story. Last year I wanted to start a new hobby. Found out that a guy I worked with had a reef tank. He took me to the fish store and I got hooked. When I started, I went the DYI way and he was the kind of guy that would take what the LFS said like the law. Anyway, he critized me and my tank until I got tired of it. Then he saw that my tank at 6 months looked WAAAAY better than his + years. He stopped talking to me. I never did that. Every reefer is different and we need to help each other. Found out other people and got a huge help on equipament and tips since then. That guy was a jerk. Im sorry for him. I upgraded some of my equipment and gifted most of it away. Ill help any way I can.

Ryan, Erik here, my significant other and I met you after your Troll Matrix speech outside with her two children and Victor. After watching your PT3, I am blown away at the creativity, the amount of thought and preparation you put into this, and the perspective you shared with all of us. First off, it was great getting to see you and Victor in person. I was excited about Reefapalooza of course, my first ever coral convention of any sort being in the hobby for roughly several years now, but mainly my trip was to come and thank you guys... for the relationship you, Josh, Victor and I have, even though we've only just met. See, I have intently listened to your guy's content, the evolution of it, and used it in my own personal application to better my ability to serve the animals I take responsibility over helping thrive. Whether or not you realize it, but you guys indirectly touch each animal that my family and I introduce into our habitat through your videos. You help bring awareness to the beauty that lies in the seas all over the world. My neighbors, friends and family are often in awe at what we have created and take care of on a regular basis, and though this has been a passion of mine for years, it has become more enjoyable when I am able to set up, maintain, and witness a HEALTHY tank. Examples like Josh's video on proper flow (which I feel is one of the best videos I've watched on the topic), Victor introducing us to so many reefers demonstrating what works for them, and Ryan, your deep rooted passion to explore the beliefs and verify their effectiveness so this hobby can be enjoyable, offers us all a perspective we can sit and digest to find happiness in our own tanks. BTW, what an important topic. Sometimes I feel like coral is like wine. The price does not necessarily justify whether I enjoy it, as much as it's my personal preference whether when I look in my tank and see something healthy and beautiful growing, that I remember to partake in it's unique beauty, not just because it's rare or even common, but because I appreciate it living it's life from around the world in my home. This speech is more than just a shared opinion... It, like others you've done, cares about each of us for the simple fact that what you find lovely about this hobby, you take a stand to help us experience the same. In this day and age, that type of characteristic is more and more rare, though clearly recognizable when it shows up. Today, I woke up and looked at my tank. With a fond eye, I am proud of it. For what it is and what it isn't. I took from your speech, where can I improve my habitat for my animals giving them the room to grow, sleep, absorb light, live healthy and feel safe...? I think it was Josh that said something to the regards that your original aqua cape will always change and morph as you evolve and recognize ways to enhance the environment. What can I add or subtract to be create a place for everyone? Those questions, theories, and proven facts all contribute to getting a win under my belt as I watch my acros base out, and my torches grow long and healthy carrying the energy of motion in my tank. Even with what I have conveyed above, I feel like it still doesn't cover what you guys do for us all, though I can say this, please keep doing it. You're making a difference and I am thankful for it. Ryan, your lifetime achievement award is a huge honor and from all of us that love what we do, we thank you for your contribution to us all.
