The Wellerman / Bass Gang collaboration on “Santiana” is a treat of a sea shanty as well.

Thank you for this! As to which version this was… This *wasn't* the original TikTok chain that went viral. But because that original TikTok chain went viral, I think it was a recording label who contacted one of the original members of that chain about producing a *polished* version to be professionally produced. Luke, Bobby, Aaron, and Jonny stood out in that original chain, but Nathan Evans, whose original posting started the whole thing, had been signed by another label and was contractually prevented from recording with those four. So they got Sam Pope to sing the lead…and thus was born The Wellermen. Aaron didn't stay long, so he could concentrate on school. All of that, it's just what I've read and heard and picked up on my own.

Nathan Evans was the one who made the song go viral on TikTok. Luke Taylor was the first person to duet with Nathan's video, adding bass to the song, and ended up being a periodic member of The Wellermen. He's the one in the baseball hat. The group is so fluid and diverse it's always fun to see who is included in particular songs. It would be worth your while to find the original videos and enjoy where it all started. Nathan has really gone on to create some great videos since! Thanks for another of your fun reactions! I really it!

I don't have tiktok but some people upload them to fb and yt and if they use Wellerman it's usually, but not always, Home Free's version from their sea shanty medley. JoYo has done a metal version and a collab version as well, both are awesome too

I don't use tiktok myself, so I don't really know who started the Wellerman craze. I do know that The Longest Johns got a lot of attention for their version there, and that a lot of people found them that way. Speaking of TLJ, they have a community video of Wellerman, with about 6500 people in it! It's super cool, and I very much recommend it, whether you react to it or not. Also, speaking of TLJ and also back to The Wellermen.. they have a collab video of One more pull, which is really beautiful. Very much recommend that too!

thanks for the reaction dj! as I understand it, the group grew out of the shanty craze started by nathan evans. a few of these guys, including bobby, duetted him and they got together to start a group. nathan wasn't able to join because of his management team, but they found sam. also aaron, who I think was a friend of bobby's, but he decided not to stay the group due to school. these guys have done one show together in the uk (where tomi p joined them) and they're about to do a us tour. they don't have many videos, but I'll request a couple of them that will absolutely blow your mind :)

How can we see the livestream of the first song you reacted to? Was it Santiana since you said it was a collaboration with bass gang? You need to do misty mountains next, but all their stuff is good. Old Maui, is a particular favorite, as is Mingulay boat are rains of castomere, and my mother told me.
