Jonathan has a very meticulous way of playing. I’m not sure if he’s just playing a straight up PTO strategy or his own strategy with elements of it. However, he’s so advanced in his thinking and approach that for how great the information might be, he fails to often tell you the “why” we’re doing this or that. Which is the biggest piece for most.

One thing I get confused about a lot with Poker charts is that on the Button a lot of the ranges are very wide. But if 6people throw away their cards, wouldn't that imply that there are more big cards left in the Deck, making it more likely that high cards will flop? So raising into a board that is more likely to hit high cards with your low cards, sounds Counter Logical in a way T_T

21:08 I thought the point of playing through the connectors deep stacked was that you could get all of the chips in how can you get all the chips in if you're checking the turn? Maybe you're just talking in general about being a better flush draw. but he's in the big blind I think his range is pretty wide open and we should be betting turn. Do we really need to balance?

This video just hit the spot. I think I played it well but now I see I need more help. Haha At a recent visit to Commerce Casino 5/5 max $500 buyin on a loose table, I was on the Button with 76h. UTG bets 4bb, HJ and CO calls. I didnt know if I should call or raise. My only logic was pot odds and called to see the flop. BB calls and we are 5 way to the flop. Flop was Jh8s6c. All checks to me, I did a small bet at 5bb and got the BB and CO to call. Turn 5h and BB bets big to 15bb. I called and Ah on the river. I made my flush and BB checks to me. I shoved all in and got called with a set of eights. 😅 lucky me

In home tournament games you gotta at least see the flop with suited connections. Assuming you play tight as you should on a 10 person table. I like the value betting though and it really isn’t that expensive to make a little bluff. You get called you know they have it

At 12:55 you mention that the button has a range advantage for bigger cards. Can you explain? Doesn’t the CO have a wider range than, say, the SB? What am I missing? Just learning about ranges. Please forgive the noob question. Thanks.
@danielwilliams9753
@danielwilliams9753 Год назад
You are correct in the fact that the later positions have a wider range. However, as the initial raiser in the scenario you mention, the initial raiser (CO) has more hands that connect specifically with the K and J, while the BB who called has less of these hands because they only called. The caller's hands are weaker and contain more marginal hands, hence the call, because if they have stronger hands, they likely would have 3 bet pre flop. I hope that answers your question?

@20:00 I understand u know a lot more about poker than me but if it went runner runner hearts aren’t u missing out on half of their stack of value. How often is the opponent going to have hearts in a tripple barrel line like that I think it weights towards AX two pairs and sets. He’s betting less than half pot on the river and the half pot bet on the flop makes me think set or two pair. I just think with over well over 50% of his stack committed won’t most of those good two pairs and sets still call a raise on a heart river.

Question for the first example: There the pot is shown with 4,500 aka ~5BB. But there are 8 players and blinds of 500/1k and UTG+2 is raising to 2k, and there is an Ante of 1k. If you do not count/show the ante, it should be 3,5k (aka ~4BB) or it should be 11,5k, if the ante is to be brought in by each player. Why is it 4,5k here, or who is paying the 1k ante then? Shouldn't be the ante paid by all players individually?
@manfredullrich483

Ah....I see, single ante.....never played that in any tournament yet.

Thank you for the content sir! Question for Jonathan or anyone: I saw in this video you said twice something to the effect that 'the solver likes to bet its worst bluffs small' . By small here do you mean around half pot? I'm confused by that rational, but I guess it may be a complicated answer. Anyway, this made me think of a long video of highlights between Linus and Berri-sweet . In the first video (45 minutes) I kept seeing a play (6 times) where either player would bluff the river say 2k into a 10K pot at very close to 20% with absolutely nothing/zero showdown value, example 8 high on a missed gut-shot. 1-2 times the bet was closer to 30% but usually this was closer to 20% and all 6 attempts failed, where 4 or probably 5 of the 6 woulda succeeded if they had just bet a reasonable amount (half pot or above). I watched another short video of Linus vs. Steffan and I saw the same play fail 2 of 2 times. Again, these were generally 5-10K pots so it seemed like quite the odd waste, knowing those psychos its often hard to get them to fold ace highs half pot HU. I could understand this play on pots where low straights missed, but it was done on a variety of hands and they clearly thought this play had some merit for some reason. Thanks for the time of anyone who wants to attempt answering.

Why is 87 suited worse than 76s?
@stevezagieboylo9172
@stevezagieboylo9172 Год назад
Your comment that you should just call if he has made a big bet and therefore is polarized. I want to take issue with that. I totally agree if we have any pair with our draw, because we are definitely beating all his bluffs. However, in this case, we are so small that we are losing to a lot of his bluffs, so raising has some important fold equity. We are a huge dog to any pair-plus-flush-draw he might have, but we're not that far behind any pair or even two-pair, plus the equity of getting him to fold his bluffs -- wouldn't that make it worth a raise sometimes? Note that we are almost as far behind KJ (board is AT27, we have 45 for gutshot and flush draw) as we are behind his two-pair hands, but he will certainly fold KJ for a decent bet.

I lost 95% of my stack deep in a tourney on a river A flush vs K flush. I had 18 BBS left and shipped it the next hand with 5 4 of hearts and I flopped trips and won a triple up over KK and 10 10. Pure tilt play. But. Is there any merit in EVER shoving a hand like this in any position with a shallow stack like this trying to take down the blinds or what ever small amount of money is in the pot? Or let’s the action goes Bet Raise Raise and it’s ur action with 15 bigs or so and its clear it’s going to be a multi way pot to the flop. Is there merrit in playing these trashy suited connectors then. With Triple up intentions, For tournaments.

My strategy at poker is I can only control how my chips are bet. I try to see the flop for as cheap as possible cause its not rare for everyone to check pre flop or there's only a small raise. Depending on my chip size and opponent I may bluff here and there. Its much more comfortable to play while your up in chips of course and ill play a big range of hands if im up and have alot of chips. Until I get a good amount of chips then I'm playing fairly tight and am being patient. I notice players that get low on chips will start to tighten up and will eventually go all-in trying to double up their chip size and get a more comfortable stack. Most players have no rhyme or reason to their poker decisions and you can take advantage of that. I generally try to play as many hands as possible as long as I can do it cheaply. Once the flop hits then go from there. Most players won't bet much if any if they dont have anything and those Aces and Kings can scare players once they hit the board.
