Xenoblade is quickly becoming my favourite RPG franchise.. Monolithsoft is absolutely hitting it out of the park with these games and the reveal of Xenoblade Chronicles definitive edition made me as happy as a little boy. Can't wait for it to release so I can finally visit the Bionis shoulder in glorious HD.

Xenoblade *the story* has a perfect mix between humor, action, and sad moments and that’s the reason why I love the franchise. Now um, ahem, so uh, Monolithsoft, when is that Xenoblade Warriors game gonna happen?

Good video, except a couple things. Xenosaga was an explicit reattempt to tell all of perfect works, so we do know that it would have modeled perfect works closely. Obviously things happened and all of saga games roughly told a version of ep 1 instead of ep1-6. You are also correct that the end of Saga with Lost Jerusalem was likely gonna be epsiode 2. Not only was kosmos drifting there, but abels ark, which took on a shape similar to the edlridge ship, the saga's versions of Fei and Elly, the Zohar, as well as the Anima and Animu powers were transported all to lost Jerusalem along with Kosmos at the end. Saga 3 also ended with Shion and co getting ready to head to lost Jerusalem, and acknowledging that they would have no idea how long it'd take, suggestion that some signficant time could pass (i even have a theory that because of the space time distortion, shion would never reach there for ages, that life would begin anew on earth, the zohar would be discovered by klaus, as well as kosmos remains, which would be how xc2 would connect to saga, as a sequel and would explain the zohar on earth as well as why the xc2 world seemingly has data on kosmos. But thats just fun fan theory). More importantly, the eldridge crash in Xenogears had the zohar, the first fei and original elly, as well as the components of deus (the anima and animu powers) fall to the planet. So it is very likely that saga 3's end was setting up an ep 2 event. Also an interesting tidbit, when deus took control before the crash, he was trying to open a portal to Lost Jerusalem, and no one knows why exactly. The final thing I'd like to add is that Saga has a Deus equivalent, the Proto-Omega weapon that when powered by the original zohar, became called omega metemphycosis. So its a deus equivalent, im not sure if it counts as a demiurge equivalent though. But theres so much resemblence to Aion and Deus. Zarathustra itself (the final boss of saga 3) could also fit this role. To be honest, Omega resembled Deus in its seemingly perfect form and zarathustra was like its final, asymmetrical form. And yeah, saga's conflict was explicitly the end of the universe. The collapse of the dimensional universe, the lower domain, would cause the higher domain to collapse. The villain of saga 3's motive was to reset endlessly to prevent this. But saga 3's end showed that the universal collapse by the dissaption of the collecrive unconsciousness was an inevitable problem that needed to be solved, and is likely the grand conflict of ep 6 or whatever the xenoblades will lead into. Saga also showcased that mutiple lower domains all apply to the same higher domain, so this would be a good excuse to crossover all of xeno.

I've been a fan of the Xeno games since the first "Xenosaga" game came out, and I've played all of them (although I haven't finished "Xenoblade" X and 2 yet). However, as you pointed out, "Gears", "Saga" and "Blade" are three different IPs held by three different companies. So no, we can't use neither universe resets nor multiverses to tie all three together. As I mentioned in another video, those two options are, from a legal perspective, the same thing as telling the same story. So speculating with that is not even "fan theorizing". It's just plain "fan wishful thinking". Basically, every parallel that we may find between the three IPs is just Takahashi and Saga iterating on previous ideas, not an attempt to create a shared continuity throughout their work. They are just three completely separate stories from one another. Of course, maybe someday in the future Nintendo, Namco and Square decide to come together and allow Takahashi and Saga to use all of the material they have been creating for the last 25 years and tie everything together in a way they see fit. But that: A) would require a retcon for it to work, and B) is, again, wishful thinking at this point.

Episode 6 of The Perfect Works is sort of explained retrospectively. There is this ambiguous concept in the game called The Time of Gospel. This is explained in a Xenosaga version as the end of the universe. Using this info, we can determine that episode 6 of gears would most probably go over Fei and Elly attempting to stop this event.

I think Episode 6 would center around the destruction of the universe in its entirety, considering the end of Xenosaga Episode III. If the multiverse theory is true, and they all happen at the same time, it could be possible that the Eternal Recurrence affected the other universes as well, which would mean that Tetsuya Takahashi could somehow force all the Xeno series' to work together, even if it's only shown through Xenoblade and heavily winked at the other universes going through something similar, maybe explained by lore entries or even item descriptions. This is by far the coolest thing I've ever though up on the spot.

I‘m looking forward to when you finally get to Xenosaga. Because those games occasionally play with your expectations if you played Gears before. Something I missed entirely, because I played Saga first. But if you know about Fei‘s previous incarnations and the timeline structure of Perfect Works, those games do something which the xenosaga-wiki describes could mean that saga is both a prequel (episode 1 of perfect works) AND a sequel of Gears. And the KOS-MOS link pretty much confirms to me that Blade is even a continuation of that. There are small contradictions between the three franchises, but it’s completely possible to explain all of them with the thousands of years in between. It might all be different perspectives on the same universe at different times.

Holy shit, I'm surprised how spot on the few predictions on Blade's version of Episode 6 were. Like, yeah, Future Connected leads into Xenoblade 3 where the universes re-merge and very, VERY nearly wipe each other out. So, the expansion pass story will very likely answer Xenoblade 3's unanswered questions, while finally tying everything up with an epilogue as the true ending to Episode 6

From what I understand, Xenosaga Episodes I to III are (more-or-less) Episodes I to III of Perfect Works (although Xenosaga Episode III got de-railed, we more-or-less got the general idea). Torna: The Golden Country, given that it takes place 500 years before Episode V, is meant to be Episode IV. The end of Xenoblade Chronicles 2 very neatly and explicitly recaps the contents of Episodes I through IV and wraps up Xenoblade Chronicles into the story (which already seemed to be a re-telling of Episode V, but Xenoblade Chronicles 2 made this more explicit). We can surmise then that Xenoblade Chronicles 3 must be Episode VI of Perfect Works.

if it is episode 6... does that mean that episode 6 is humanity meeting another version of itself and clashing though likely being manipulated by a power that briefly appeared prior to sustain something... with Saga I would guess the stability of the multiverse since that's a big part of it like say Saga's equivalent to episode 6 had the clash be to stop the collapsing effect caused by the overflow of Gnosis in the end trying to find an alternate solution to stop the collapsing effect as a whole without the need to clash

From what I can tell from what I've played thus far/been spoiled on (I'm in chapter 5 and have no self-control when it comes to spoilers), XC3 fills the (very nebulously defined) role of Episode VI within the overall Perfect Works narrative, while XC2 fills the role of Episode V (with Torna as its Episode IV). XC3 cannot be said to be a telling of Episode V for the simple reason that the Zohar (i.e. the Conduit) is long gone. (The game has something that fills a similar role plot-wise, but it's still not the same thing.) That said, XC3 draws from Xenogears for its plot and general world setup (most notably, two nations at war with a third faction secretly controlling everything from the shadows) more heavily than any other game in the Xeno metafranchise.

It is very messy tbh. Xenoblade 1 itself technically already contains the entire catalogue, even if it may not have been the developer-intention. Zohar/Counterpart found: No, but humanity developing Monado is the replacement.(As a sidenote, Monolith originally considered putting the Zohar there, but it was removed because they thought people wouldn't get the reference.) Earth lost: Yes Episode 1 and 2 are kinda merged here in the beginning of the world-backstory. Episode 3: Machina, High Entia, Giants. Episode 4: The cycle of destruction in aggression. It consumed Egil, then Mumkhar(Yes, even tho his situration isn't revenge, he sorta fits in with the theme) and almost Shulk. Episode 5: Monado/Alvis departs after Zanza's death and Shulk's wish for there to be no gods. Episode 6: The world of the ether sea dies and is replaced by the world Shulk wished for. The future is uncertain because it now belongs to the people themselves.

@@shuigor6648 Nah, Xenosaga is almost entirely episode I. Episode II is about the birth of new life. Xenosaga stops as they are searching for the abandoned Earth in hope of finding KOS-MOS. The entirety of Xenosaga takes place in the Galaxy spanning civilization described as the setting for Episode I. It also sets up the Deus equivalent with Omega (which is funny since Deus is called Omega in the opening cutscene of Xenogears), something also stated to happen in episode I. The only thing that has nothing to do with Episode I in Xenosaga is Wilhelm trying to reset the universe before it collapses, which is a setup for the eventual events of episode VI. I don't think we have actually reached episode VI yet since XC3 is pretty much another Episode V that contains the references to the events of XG that weren't directly included in XC1 and XC2. In fact I would argue that since they can't get the rights of XG (unlike XS) the trilogy as a whole is pretty much the new Episode V (Except Torna, which is a very obvious stand in for episode IV). If anything KOS-MOS being hinted to finally return to Earth in FR might actually be a setup for Episode VI since the whole Wilhelm plot ends with Nephilim saying that the only way to save the universe (which is episode VI) is to return to Earth where KOS-MOS is.

warning! spoilers for XBC1 ahead! Doesn't Zanza before the last battle in a cutscene say that he has destroyed and recreated the universe again and again countless times before? So, not only the initial experiment as Klaus, but reborn as Zanza... so we basically don't know what was before the universe with Bionis and Mechonis in it that we get in the XBC1 game... we don't know what were these universes like... It's like a ratio of differences and similarities... Some reset universes are more similar to others, while some are very different, except few little details (kinda like the convergent evolution, where you have unrelated species of animals or plants, with similar body structure and life style, because they evolved in similar environments... for example a mole that's a mammal, and a southern marsupial "mole", that's a marsupial, not related to the regular mole, but closer to a kangaroo, heck even the mole cricket is mole like, so I guess that one counts too... Or how the wing has evolved independently in insects, birds, and bats, but it still allows the animal to fly... OR (last or, I swear) the ichtyosaur, which is fish-like, but also dolphin-like... and dolphin is fish-like, too (lives in water), and similar to the ichtyosaur... like they are all unrelated, but mutually similar to one another... So, the universes in the XENO multiverse are like that, also, that's why there are repeating themes... like the zohar shape, for example. the multiverse seems plausible, it's like that Rick and Morty episode with the screen splitting in two, then into four, then eight,... :D

Have you ever considered the connection between Tetsuya Takahashi and Richard Wagner? Wagner famously strove to create the perfect "work" in the construction of his operas (see his essays Das Kunstwerk der Zukunft and Zukunftsmusik). I don't know the details, but I'm certain that Takahashi has also made overt references to Wagner. What's more is that Wagner more-or-less invented the idea of using a musical motif (leitmotiv) to represent a character or theme in his operas. Yasunori Mitsuda has done the same thing with the score to Xenoblade Chronicles 2. Not only is it good musical sense, but I wonder if Takahashi-san instructed him and the other composers to deliberately do this. I guess I think this is interesting because it might shed some more light on the creative process of Takahashi.
@chrisperry5354
@chrisperry5354 5 лет назад
One more thought on this: Part of Wagner's Zukunftsmusik was a perfect blending of music, story, and visual arts in his operas. I wonder if Takahashi seeks a perfect blending of game along with story, visuals and music in his creations.

I have a bit of a theory that the "Lost Jerusalem" Kos-Mos was floating toward was the really the "Earth" of the Xenoblade Chronicles world, and humanity learned how the use the Conduit from her, and she assisted with building the World Tree (since Kos-Mos does have knowledge of the World Tree). Probably overthinking things but I think it does fit.

seems like my memetimeline with x happening if klaus fails in his experiment is legit enough. kos-mos landed on earth and advanced its technological level and when they found the konduit,they were able to figure out how to use it since it has similarities to what she was talking about. and when earth went to shit,she somehow got reborn as elma. in the altversion where xc1 and 2 take place,she was just the only one aside from klaus to remain on earth while everyone else was thrown into random universes or in the case of galdea and the third aegis became gods in the xc1 universe.

While yes i do see how the rough timeline of events repeats in each universe, i think the established timeline is only really relevant for gears and saga cus in saga they break the loop. And what with the confirmation theres multiple universes it does get a little complicated to try and put these together however i have my own idea on how to do it: Note, you say you know the events of saga/gears without having played them yourself (same as me actually) so i'll be putting spoilers in this, read at your own risk Way i see it, it starts with xenosaga. We have a universe in a repeating loop which you describe of losing earth and colonising space, up until the gang here breaks it. From what i remember this happens when they use the zohar to do a huge dimensional warp, very reminiscent of what klaus did which sends kosmos to another universe where the earth still exists. However the universe of saga still continued onwards (much like xb2's earth) leading into the events of gears after many years. Its long since thought saga was the prequel to gears cus saga is almost identical to gears's timeline backstory. So from the saga warp, the zohar, abel and elle maybe came forward from the saga events Meanwhile kosmos landed back on earth in a new universe which is xb2's universe. I say this cus she's a blade in that game, and according to klaus all the blades are "former residents of this world". My idea is humanity found and reactivated her, effectively being from the future (or atleast a future) her knowledge and experience with the zohar accelerated humanities development. Thus leading them to find and use the zohar early and teaching them how to build things before their due time. This would lead to how kosmos knows about the world tree and how its built, cus maybe she taught the humans how to build it -- Extra spoiler time -- I also have thoughts on the character jin from xb2 cus theres also a jin in saga. Again he's a swordsman, i remember him using ice attacks, he gets stabbed through the chest and was there with kosmos during the zohar warp. Interesting then how the xb2 jin has the same scar on his, perhaps he too fell to earth and kosmos maybe used their zohar to revive him or something, thus leading him to become a blade when klaus recreates all the earths residents. Or perhaps kosmos herself revived him as the first ever blade, thus giving klaus the idea years later. Its just a thought Anywho, we all know about klaus finding the zohar (i think at an earlier time than in saga, maybe cus kosmos had the info on where it was) and used it to create another dimensional warp creating the xb1 universe. At this point its significant to point out that alvis in his "true form" looks exactly identical to the wave existence in gears trapped inside the zohar, and when you fight zanza you're in what looks like the same red space of UDO from saga, so its quite likely alvis became the wave existence (atleast of the new universe) at this point There is debate on what exactly shulks wish did. Did he merge the universes back together or not, i'm gonna think not and that shulk's new world eventually became mira cus of many references dotted around in that game. One important thing to note though is shulk's wish to alvis (who was the one designed to control the zohar and probably was using it fully at this point) was for no more gods, at that point the zohar itself in the xb2 universe (which is basically the power of god itself) broke apart and vanished out of the universe. Maybe shulks wish destroyed the zohar entirely going forward cus it was the power of god All this is conjecture though, i've still no idea how xbx plays into this. Theres a mysterious explosion that takes earth, so hard to tell if this was their klaus doing the experiment or just our klaus's experiment blasting across the whole multiverse (maybe causing the missing earths in saga too). I get the feeling those purple ships at the start of xbx are significant in the larger story but i dont know how. Then theres elma, she's the splitting image of kosmos and her human body also so is that really kosmos, how does that fit into everything, idk. I'm still not even sure if we can say or not if alvis is actually the wave existence in gears, there is a STRONG resemblance between them Just when i thought zelda was my favorite game series with a crazy timeline, this series comes around XD

I was thinking about some interesting data the other day. (SPOILERS FOR XENOBLADE 1 AND 2 ALERT) In Xenoblade 1, you can have a conversation between Fiora and Riki where you find out that Miqol is 6000 yo. So according to this and taking into account that Miqol himself has seen the fight between Bionis and Mechonis, Xenoblade 1's world cannot be much more older than 6000 years. So in Xenoblade 2, the year must be the same, but at the beggining of Torna, Jin says that the year is around 3500, so Xenoblade 2 events are situated on the year 4000. My question is: shouldnt both universe be on the same year? Maybe I have calculated something wrong, or maybe the time is different on each universe. Perhaps the living beings that Klaus created on Xeno 2 world taked 2000 years for them to evolve and become humans and then they started to count the years, since humans on Xenoblade 1 are created directly with no need of evolution. What do you guys think?

I look at the xeno-series as being similar to the nova crystalis ff games. In that themes are the only binding aspect of the games...

I’ve played all the Xeno games and read perfect works and I can say that there really isn’t any connection for Blade to perfect works. Gears is cannon, Saga is kind of cannon. I believe they took the initial plot and changed it enough to get away with it. Remember, Square owns gears. The blade games only borrow themes I think. You can imagine that they’re connected but I believe it’s a large leap of faith. It’s like saying George Lucus wrote out all of Star Wars together. We know it didn’t happen that way of course

Yeah but the people that own monolith were the ones that wrote all the lore and story to gears, sage and blade. It just they had 3 different publishers. So it’s not like how you used the Star Wars example, cause George never wrote anything for ep 7-9.

Makes me wonder what’s gonna happen when this whole one thing comes together. Since there is an obvious overarching story going on here with multiple dimensions and stuff.

I feel like they have a grand plan, which will be glorious. And honestly the Xeno series probably has the greatest lore in gaming, or one of the greatest.

I loved Xenogears but I was very disappointed with the Perfect Works stuff. They made an amalgamation of Jewish and Christian theology with Evangelion sauce, resulting in lots of no sense and contradictions. My most heated pieces: 1. Earth became a forbidden place called Lost Jerusalem but apparently nothing changed there. 2. The Kadomoni is a bio computer (ok...) that runs a program called Persona which builds a person to think human (what the hell. what human would build a computer that needs a human to think?!!) 3. The Zohar, in some places says it was build to power stuff later to power DEUS, later it was found with unknown origin, sometimes it has will, later it hasnt'....(what I understood in the game, that without the Wave Existence the Zohar was just an alien battery, then this Perfect Work makes the concept even more confusing). 4. DEUS leaves unclear if it is an alien weapon, or if the aliens were the New Jerusalem inhabitants (terrestrials) ? Whatever, DEUS is supposed to be "Galactic Conquest Weapon" but at the end of the day is just a living Mecha (...sniffing Evangelion). In the game works, but in a guide to clarify concepts is disastrous.

Would it be possible that shulks new monado in the trailer for the definitive edition is a sort of "sealed monado" that he gives himself as an EDC weapon for postgame? Or does that not really pan out in the canon?

*sits over here sipping tea having played all Xeno games since gears release* awwww... you kids are so cute and first reading perfect works and just realizing all the fun references Saga and Blade has~~ To be fair i love ppl looking into this series, XBC2 is a great game, and its ending really lends itself to the shared universe thing but hooboy... i know its wishful thinking but man, itd be fun and that end was such a tease for all of that... not to mention the locking of the universe, reset, etc of the Saga timeline, that can coincide with XBCX, since mira is a pocket universe, id have to disagree with your assessment that Gears, XBC/2 are the same in the story as Gears, Gears is ep5 for its variation of the universe, on that planet its on (since it is NOT earth) it can coincide with XBC/2 which take place on Earth/paralel Earth, which would line up with Saga's sealed lost Jarusalem that is 'sealed' from the real universe (which makes sense if its split in two so out of phase from the perpetually resetting 'real' universe) and Mira off... doing its own thing... After the XBC2 ending i liked the theory of 2 parallel earths ( lost Jarusalem), Xenogears planet that has a 10k history starting after the deus system (which Xenosaga has a similar system in the second game in development) Mira... doing its own tuing in a pocket universe, and the humans that left into space resulting in Saga (4k after the loss of Earth)... so i mean all could be same overall universe... It doesnt perfectly fit, but its fun... cute seeing new ppl getting in on this crazy~ (but seriously everyone should play the OG games~ ;P) Would love to see a mash up where every hero meets up... but the times might not sync up... the true episode 6~

Spoilers for Xenosaga ahead. Xenosaga is a little weird in regards to perfect works. You could kind of make an argument that it takes place during Perfect Works episode 1, some of the plot points in Xenosaga episode 1 and 2 come off like that, but I think there is more of a concrete argument that it takes place during episode 5. It's more obvious that it is episode 5 when you look at the second half of Xenosaga episode 3 which is almost a beat for beat a reinterpretation of Xenogears disc 2. *Major Spoilers* There are actually two Demiurges in Xenosaga. Dimitri Yuriev with Omega (This is the fake one trying to become a God) and Wilhelm with Zarathustra (This is the real one trying to control God to reset the universe). You could kind of make the argument that Amalthus is the fake Demiurge in Xenoblade 2 now that I think about it. Many people in the universe are turned into Gnosis as part of the villain's plans, which is similar to what Zanza did with turning the High Entia into Telethia. This also happens in Xenogears with Deus turning people into Wels in order to absorb them. The Zohar also leaves the universe in Xenosaga as well with the dimensional shift caused by Chaos, Abel, and Nephilim/Mary. *Major Spoilers end* Even if you ignore Xenosaga episode 3 it's hard to argue it follows Perfect Works episode 1 as there is definitely a representation of episode 4 with the Miltian Conflict, which is pretty much fully told in the second quarter of Xenosaga 3 and is the origin of most of a lot of the villains backstories. There is also kind of a representation of episode 3 with Ziggy in Xenosaga Pied Piper which takes place on Michtam 100 years before the games. Overall I think their initial intention was to kind of tell the story of Perfect Works episode 1 and 2, but due to the developmental troubles, even with Xenosaga Episode 1, and the shortening of the series they pushed it towards a retelling of episode 5 instead. As for Xenoblade X I definitely think it is a loose telling of Perfect Works episode 1 and 2 so far, but I wouldn't be surprised if it skips to an episode 4 or 5 like story with it's sequel. Heck I'm calling it L is the Demiurge. I also don't think episode 6 needs to be exposited upon as it is usually this "Welcome to the new world" moment at the end of these games. It's a bittersweet cliffhanger that would be ruined if the story continued from there. This is why I can't stand people who are asking for a Xenosaga Episode 4. That conclusion didn't leave much to build another game off of, and I like that it ends on a bittersweet note instead of wasting your time with the journey to Lost Jerusalem, Earth.

Developers actually said saga was meant to be 1-5 in and of itself. Though that was cut short early on and trimmed back to cover just part 1. Thing is, no matter which way fans spin the theories; there can be no canonical linking due to legal conflicts. This essentially kills the multiverse theory outright. Adding to the complications, XBC1 was not even originally meant to bear the "Xeno" title. It was merely added as a respectful nod from monolith staff to takeshi's detailed resume of prior stories, but not to imply any link. It was just a sort of office wordplay and a way to identify she was with the company to her fans.

You know why Xenoblade Chronicles X is my favorite Xeno game? It was made before Takahashi decided to retrofit the Xenoblade series into Perfect Works (and also it is a direct evolution of the combat and exploration concepts from XC1). Not everything has to be Perfect Works and frankly I'd prefer if it wasn't.
