they actually didn't use the opening in the show before to increase the overall run time of the show and to cover as much content as possible per episode.
Man I've seen this sooo many times, through normal views and all the reactions and I STILL can't not feel the emotions during some of these scenes. He is such a great writer and they did such an amazing job delivering lines, music, everything.
Something which gets overlooked is how much family relationships are themes in re zero as well. The reason that no matter how much I feel like I've lost the emotional reaction to Emilia's trial I still get hit is because when both her and Beatrice are telling Fortuna and Echidna that they are their mothers despite them insisting they're not, it's deeply traumatic to them. Echidna never let Beatrice see her as a mother because she chose to be the witch of greed instead of her mother(a line in the light novel later on). She gave up just loving others, being family to her creations and apprentice for that. In the same way, while Emilia is begging not to be left alone, Fortuna and Archie are talking about saving the world, protecting the seal, defeating Pandora. And Petelgeuse calls himself a sinner, asks forgiveness from Flügel who's dead, while Fortuna also talks about her debts and forgiveness from her brother and sister. Subaru's parents are basically the only healthy parents not dumping all their burdens on their children and as a result all the power Emilia, Garfiel, Beatrice and btw Reinhard have may as well be a curse, they're all given this legacy of trauma and greater causes and responsibility to others so can never feel worthy of something for themselves. I find it silly how often people complain about the scenes focusing on Emilia crying, because this is the core of her personality you're seeing here, and it connects to the other character arcs as well. They all need relationships which aren't about love being some sort of debt, them being important only because of who they're related to or the power they have. Otherwise Garfiel destroys everyone trying to do what's best for the other sanctuary residents, Emilia breaks because she's shut off from letting herself have any desires of her own, Beatrice kills herself because her entire existence has to be a tool for a witch(and Reinhard does everything to protect his family's reputation because they've blamed him for all their problems). It doesn't mean Echidna, Fortuna, Petelgeuse, Archie, Wilhelm and Heinkel don't have good reasons for what they do. But even if your cause is saving the world, it doesn't seem as noble when your niece who calls you her mother sees you choose that over her over and over again, or when you are constantly looking through your niece at your brother and some debts she doesn't know about. Still isn't about them being wrong or anything it's just a theme of love and family vs the greater good or revenge quests or family debts etc etc which are what destroyed the main characters as people in their childhood.
"So you must also respect my decision to open this seal ... by any means necessary" > what do you mean by that? * Fortuna shows up just at that moment * ... those were the means, Fortuna showing up only to die
